Nigeria's political leanings depends on the region and tribe.
Northern Nigeria is about 99.9% conservative, in terms of economic, social and cultural consevatism. That's why they also vote conservative parties and individuals.

South West Nigeria is about 50% conservative and 50% liberal. They use to vote parties with socialists programs, well until this current alliance with the north.

The South East is liberal socially, moderately conservative culturally and highly conservative economically. They tend to vote with the north until the emergence of Buhari.

The South South are liberal socially, economically and culturally. Except maybe the Binis who are very tied to their culture, other tribes imbibe other people's cultures easily .

These are my personal views. You might disagree with them.

The conservatives/liberal labels are problematic, as they are relative. A Massachusetts Conservative - Republican governor like Charlie Baker is probably an Alabama Liberal or Dem.

As to the Original Abortion Ruling Roe v. Wade. That decision was 7-2. With 5 justices appointed by Republican Presidents joined with 2 Dems ruling for it and one nominated by a Republican and one by a Dem against. So yes, this MAGA version of conservatism is more extreme than those Republicans in 1973.

But on a more serious note though, you raise some very important points. The media has gotten so polarized these days that almost every platform is radically aligned with one side either right or left. Nairaland is one of the few places you can still get a fair balance of opinions from people across the political spectrum and state your own opinions without fear of censorship. The only thing you have to fear, as you rightly pointed out, is getting scolded and belittled by these tyrannical Akata liberals who have zero tolerance for any opinion that does not fully comply with their radical leftist perspectives.

Nairaland reminds me of the good old days of the internet. You can speak your mind and get the true pulse of the people. Where you can call someone a 'figgernaggot' and they'd just insult your mother in return, rather than get you banned and fired from your job.

SlyFoxxEternal:

I am honest about myself and where I stand. I am a staunch conservative and social traditionalist. I and very troubled by the increasing radicalization of the Democrat party especially on issues such as race, gender, education, entitlements and sexuality. I wouldn’t call myself a “Trumpist” but I supported him fully on policy - I never defended his personality but I feel liberals get unnecessary antsy about his silliness to the point of an irrational derangement and obsession which I always find funny. My favorite US President is Ronald Reagan and I am rooting for Ron DeSantis in 2024.

I sincerely believe that the culture war is a distraction for both establishment Dems and Republicans use to score points with their supporters while the middle class continues to suffer. Kind of like how in Nigeria, the ruling class has divided us by tribe and religion so that we can elect the next murderous thief because of the name they give the Jewish deity that they follow.

SlyFoxxEternal:

These are my general political inclinations but I am never under any pretense that I know it all. I am willing to listen to anyone who can rebut any of my opinions calmly and respectfully without getting all emotional and abusive like a woman on a particularly heavy period and that is my major problem with the Akata liberals on this thread. They haven’t mastered the art of nuanced and civil debate. Probably because they know their ideas are so flawed they subconsciously try to compensate with unnecessary aggression.

You have to understand that these people are used to screaming down their opposition along with a bunch of other like-minded people all while fully backed by the social media platform. Furthermore, some people have replaced their religion with leftist ideology.

SlyFoxxEternal:

Whatever the case I appreciate people like you who don’t fit in any box and can help bring a more balance perspective to this cesspool of a political thread. I have also noticed you get into fights with people on both sides but you are typically very respectful and tolerant in your engagements. That’s a good thing that a few people here could learn from you.

I just don't have it in me to get too upset over comments by faceless people on the internet. Maybe it's because of my time on 4chan (mostly just the anime and comics boards) or whatever but I just don't really care if someone tells me to kill myself on the internet. Like, sometimes I'll find myself typing multiple paragraphs in response to an argument only to delete everything and drop a single joke and go somewhere else to talk about anime.

Occasionally though, I do little trolling...

My personal view is that Nigerians do not have any political ideology. They vote along ethnic and religious lines or anywhere belle face.

They do. It's just that their ideology is not personal but tribal. The north is a feudal society and feudalism is ultra-conservatism. It is socially, culturally and religiously conservative. Literalism has no place in the north.
Aminu Kanu tried to introduced socialist policies to northern nigeria in the second republic, but his party The Peoples Redemption Party failed woefully at the presidential elections.

It's odd, you drink from the well of people who hate people who look like you. And worse you spew their propaganda as if you think being around them they would see as that different/good Negro. Actually being Nigerian and the way they see Africa, they'd see you as some AIDS infected malnourished immigrant, from that shithole country. Good luck rationalizing to them you think it's a shithole country too.

Why is it always about white people for you? You are obsessed with whitey. You believe that I think the way I do because of white people, while you do everything to toe the line of acceptable black thought because you won't be seen as pandering to whites.

I don't care about their race, tribe, religion, gender, sexuality, or politics. As long as there's mutual respect, we can put our differences aside and vibe. All I care about is family and friends.

Nigeria's leaders have always looked like us but they don't love us. The different tribes don't love each other. Christians don't love Muslims and vice versa. They use our different identities to pit us against each other. I don't care for it and I won't participate in the bullshxt.

IjeBos:

As to Ilhan Omar, what is your guiding thought process as thy she was kicked off the committee? Is it people who have said antisemitic things shouldn't have committee assignments? If so, explain why Ms. Jewish Space Lazer MTG and Mr. White National Gosar have committee assignments. I don't mind discussing with anyone. But those discussions have to be rooted in intellectual honesty. And a lot from the alt right sycophants seem to be rooted in simple sound bites.

I know MTG is dumb asf but where did she mention "Jewish space lasers"?

Both of your comments get back to my point. You don't live in the US and so have little understanding of it's culture. If you did you would understand the reference to both. But your frame of reference is what you get in your conservative ecosystem. So you can sit here and say the most offensive things to African Americans without any cultural sensitivity of the lives they actually live or trash Omar without understanding the hypocrisy of that vote.

"Dindu nuffin" really got you pressed. Funny thing is that I was saying it in reference to a white man.

Also, MTG said some frankly insane things about Roger Kimmel, PG&E, and Rothschild Inc. While stupid, how did this become Jewish space lasers? Now, I won't be surprised if she actually said anti-Semitic stuff but this is a reach.

Please define a “MAGA republican”. Does it actually have a meaning or is it something you guys just repeat because your dear leader Joe Biden says it a lot?

Because according to that speech he gave form “the gates of hell” before the midterms almost every conservative qualifies as a “MAGA republican” from the definitions he gave. He mentioned things like opposing abortion and other basic tenets of conservatism as qualifiers of a “MAGA Republican”. So I really need help understanding what it is.

I don't know why you singled out Biden. MAGA Republicans is also a word often used by Republicans that have not embraced trumpism. The ones MAGA love to call Never trumpers and many other names.

As per meaning of MAGA Republican/trumpism/ American far right e.t.c, here is a list compiled by the Hill, a conservative leaning media:

E surprise me o. That some Nigerians are so obsessed with drag queens, LGBTQ or whatever they call them, as if that is one of our problems as Africans. James Brown and Bobrisky are into it for business purposes. Others do it for japa purposes. Still others do it for ritual purposes (for wealth or for political power). There are very very few actual gays in Nigeria.

Our concerns should be the unfair trade practices whereby they force us to open our ports to their goods, while they close their to our own. They subsidize their agriculture so that food is cheap in their country, and tell us any type of subsidy for us is a taboo. They force us to produce agricultural food we don't eat to drive their industries at dirt cheap prices and sell us finished and processed foods at exorbitant prices.

You can extend this conversation to what concerns Nigerians with racism in America, what concerns Nigerians with White supremacy in America, what concerns Nigerians with Trump policy in America, what concerns Nigeria with Democrats and Republicans or even what is Nigerians business opening this thread when they are not in America

I had wrongly believed conservatism means religious piety, traditional family values, strict moral values and allowing law of demand and supply dictate business. But the new generation of conservatives led by Trump have proved me wrong.

Has trump ever made himself to be a conservative?

LMAO bro even you can’t believe what you just wrote. Of course he has to say that to win a republican primary and govern as a republican president. But every Trump voter know’s he’s not a conservative in any traditional sense of the word. This man was highly celebrated in liberal circles before he ran for president as a Republican in case you forgot.

If I was to define his political ideology I would say he is a nationalist and an isolationist. It just so happens that nationalism overlaps more with conservatism than liberalism.

Trump is not a traditional conservative.

“The Real Donald Trump,” plays on two separate occasions a clip of the billionaire candidate saying that he “lived in New York and Manhattan my whole life” and that “my views are a little bit different than if I had lived in Iowa.”

Trump has said many times he is Pro choice, He is for single payer healthcare

He has never attended a church in most of his adult life. His favorite bible verse is "Two Corinthians"

Trump is not a traditional conservative.

Going by their personal lives and personal beliefs

Biden even Obama is probably more conservative than Trump. Biden Obama Clinton had a church they identified with, Trump probably spends Sundays recovering from Saturday's hangovers. He was basically an enjoyment man. But he wanted to win a ticket under the Republican party and has to say anything to win

I remember in the 90s to mid 2000s. Trump was the darling of the liberal media, He often appeared on WWE, Rap lyrics even host a beauty pageant

He was a showbiz man. Trump that was interviewed and said "Avoiding HIV in Manhattan in the 70s was the equivalent of his own Vietnam war". Now compare that to a traditional conservative like Mike Pence, Mitt Romney, The Bushs or John McCain

He was simply a populist who cashed in n peoples fears and worries about the economy. That was why he was loved by the Union people the reliable Blue collar Democratic voters of the rust belt

Lol the hill is not conservative leaning. They have contributors from across the political spectrum. Everyone from Ben Shapiro on the right to Cenk Uygur on the left has written articles for the Hill. You are as likely to see an anti-republican article as you are to see an anti-democrat article on the Hill. But I understand that to liberals, any publication that is not fully leftist “leans conservative”. But that’s besides the point.

The term “MAGA republican” is nonsensical phrase that has no definition. It was never used by any republicans like you said. it was coined by the Biden team before the midterms when they where brainstorming for a word to use to try and tie ALL republicans to Trump. It was part of their midterm strategy and they actually hired and paid consultants to come up with that phrase (hilariously). It was in the news at the time of you had bothered to check.

It was during his infamous gates of hell speech that he first used the term “these ultra-MAGA republicans” after 6 months of research by his team to come up with that phrase. He went on to define “Ultra-MAGA republican” as basically anybody with with conservative views or who disagrees with him. Maybe you should watch the speech again.
That particular post was not an opinion post.

I could care less about what Biden calls them as I am not fixated on Biden. I pointed out a Republican calling them MAGA Republican as well. I am sure if I google some more, I will find other Republicans acknowledging the Trump faction of the GOP. The GOP has a Trump faction and those are the ones being referred to as MAGa Republicans.

Texts of Right Wing Conservative Alex Jones revealed.

Thousands of Alex Jones' Texts Are Now Public, and Yep, He's the Worst
Story by Kylie Cheung • 2h ago

As has previously been reported by Rolling Stone, at around the time these texts were sent, Jones oversaw an elaborate “spy ring” to surveil his ex-wife, Kelly Jones, and current wife Erika Wulff Jones. Jones went so far as to keep a GPS tracker on Erika’s car and required hourly updates on her location from Tim Enlow—a former cop and Blackwater spy—whom he’d hired to follow her.

Yet despite his suspicions about Erika, at the same time that he was texting Enlow demanding updates about his wife, he was also texting an unnamed married woman with whom he was having an affair, “On my way. Pleas run me a bath,” per SPLC’s report. At another point, he asked his mistress for a “sucky.”
