Next time when a domain is few months to expiration it's either you renew before pushing or you transfer using authorization code that way it gets automatically renewed.

Normally, you don't pay to transfer out, except you're dealing with a crazy registrar.

It's the owner of the receiving account (at GoDaddy in this case) that will pay. And that money will be used to extend the expiration date of the domain by one year.
