I wrote something similar like this not quite long. Dangote owns Nigeria grin grin grin.

Dangote on his way to becoming the top 5 richest man on planet earth. Dongote can decide to fix the price however he wants.

Like people have said here, it's clearly banter because I was not in support of the Oba of Illorin bowing to the Emir. My post clearly stated they should stand up . It's a good message.

All the other screenshots posted here too are banter and good messages

Government really should not be involved in running the power sector. That sector should be fully deregulated.
The main problem is that Nigerians cannot afford power if they had to pay actual price
Here in the UK, it came out last week that energy companies were breaking into their customer's houses to forcibly install prepayment meters, due to the large number of defaults on energy payments

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/british-gas-prepayment-meter-debt-energy-bills-investigation-wrgnzt6xs

This is why FG is still involved in a sector that it cannot hope to realistically manage - to try and keep prices down for customers. Even at that FG is struggling to pay Power Generation companies - as at November, FG was owing 1.6 TRILLION naira to GenCos
https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/11/electricity-gencos-face-liquidity-crisis-receive-57-invoice/

If FG should deregulate the sector in it's entirety, power issues would probably be completely fixed within 4-5 years...but when you have to pay 100k monthly electric bill, can you cope?
This is not true, you are looking at it from an exchange rate point of view.
With prepaid meters available now which work like pay as you get
We are having good supply even though it can be better and the whole street has prepaid each
1000 naira will give us 30.8 units which can not last a week the least we buy is 10000 which is 308 units
This is expensive but people are buying if they have a stable supply

But the man is right. Any body that hopes to change the lives of Nigerians must fix the power sector completely

The Manufacturing industry depends 99% on diesel. If they had electricity, that cost would be halved or even removed entirely.

NRC have said that the rails are running on a total loss; I can't doubt that because all are diesel powered.

Imagine paying 4000 from Lagos-Ibadan by rail, and still use 2 hours plus on the journey. Where is the economic sense in that?

Steady power is our very first step to a better economy

I totally agree that any economy needs steady power supply to grow. As many companies left the country and made thousands jobless because there is no power

But on the flip side, I dont believe the govt has the ability to generate power and distribute power efficiently and this must be done by the private sector with intention to make profit

Like I have said many times, look at every sector handled by govt vs when private sector handles it and you will see the difference

There is a difference in service delivery when you are doing it for profit vs doing it for "public good" See NEPA, NITEL Ajakuta etc

I was in Bonny over 15yrs ago and they had steady electricity obviously govt was not involved

While we have neighbouring countries that enjoy an almost steady power, i don't think electric bills there are breath choking.

UK is too far to forecast what it will look like. There are African countries with very decent electricity supply. Why not look into them, and see if the bill will be too high?

The government built most of these infrastructures even with lesser revenue… they should forget looting for some time and invest

I’m sure some big conglomerates will be interested in our power sector as well with all that coal and gas underneath the land… na lack of foresight Dey worry these people

Most of these infrastructures are outdated already.

If you have the money to build a totally new one and generate and also price it competitively similar to the rate you pay in Australia do you think people can afford it or they will find ways to bypass your mter and run you into debts?

Sir FG is owing 1.6 Trillion Naira to the people that generated the electricity that you are talking about. See the link below

I am saying if they bring the actual price of electricity and there is 24-hour electricity
People will pay I can assure you, if only you know the length we go through to have solar, generator etc

Electricity here is pretty cheap compared to most western countries… I had a flat rate of $68 per month but since I consume more, it was increased to $120 per month… A lot of houses and business can afford this in Nigeria

See screenshot when it was increased below and that was even winter period

I worked in a Digital Advertising firm.

On a site, we use 500 litres of diesel to power the board every day; 365 days in a year.

In today's price list, that's 400k everyday on diesel, and this what many industries go through every blessed day

Whether private sector or not, i cannot fathom how electricity bill will run into 400k every day, if there was steady power

Our electric bills will be manageable if we face reality. My house is full of fans. I have conditioned myself not to use ACs.

Air conditioning is the biggest energy cost for any domestic or commercial dwelling.

Larride, what is your take on Lawan winning the ticket?

Is our judiciary not a joke, like this?

I'm waiting to read the judgement. The summary I've seen, the SC cancelled the first primary that produced Machina and confirm the second primary.

I dont know how they come to that conclusion

E no fit reach 100k for personal use sef, maybe 100 for private but it's no big deal if the electricity is 24 hours
It will also improve a lot of things like that trains, road will be somehow free

Sincerely I suspect someone in the team was running wayo.

They will oversize the gen so they can chop money, then inflate the diesel use so they can chop further.

There is a company that introduced automated tank gauging for diesel storage. You had a real time online report on your diesel use. A lot of facilities officers got into serious trouble after their companies adopted the solutions

One drum is 250 litres. I used to drive and drop 2 drums at that site, whenever it was my shift.

I agree that there were losses due to theft, but that Gen drinks up to 400.

Name a neighbouring country that fits your profile and doesn't have it's energy costs heavily subsidised by it's government.

Why won't I pay 100k monthly if I have stable power supply?

I hope you know how these petroleum products work
I once implemented our software for an oil company, and that was when I know when the sun is up the quantities in the tank increased maybe the sun melted it while during the day it shrunk back might be lesser

You can as well buy less energy consuming gadgets to curb wastage...

Switch off your metres whenever you are out or not necessarily in need of it.

Atleast God has blessed us with not too extreme weather.......

It will be impossible to spend that 100k per month

How big is your house bro?

I live in a 5 bed house which is similarly sized to the typical Nigerian duplex and this is how much I was paying before winter cold kicked in. We try to be quite prudent in our electricity use, but still the energy prices are murdering me right now.

In Naira terms, that's too uncomfortably close to a million naira in monthly expenditure on my Nepa bill.
