I think coming here as a foreigner or immigrants is different - immigrants came with a different mindset, drives and goals.
I wouldn't go into comparison or use immigrants to compare AA.
The only thing I will say is if you don't have money to go to school ( America college is expensive), join the military.

Money to go to school is not the problem, how many are joining the military?
Mind you, I am talking about an environment that could keep a kid focused.
I know, a single mother who does not spend much time with her kids because of hustling might end up losing her kid to the streets. I used my cousin as an example.

Immigrants as you say are hardworking. The same system that may affect African Americans are supposed to affect immigrants but determination and that family structure is there. They work hard for their kids to stay away from trouble and strive.

You really have to live here to understand the things that work against black Americans.

It is hard to have time for the kids when you don't have 9-5pm job or work 2/3 shifts to be able to pay rent or mortgage, bills, food, extra curricula activities for the kids etc

I live here
And those things you mentioned are things that happen when the family structure breaks down, thats when the mother will have to work 2/3 shifts to provide

What led to the breakdown of the family in the black community?

The little guy who excelled in High school most likely wont if he didnt have full family support

Mother -checked

Family looks decent.

What is missing in most black neighborhoods

That must be what’s missing in Nigeria also because Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest number of single mothers in any hemisphere with Nigeria trailing Kenya for the country with the highest number of children born out of wedlock. This information comes from well-researched, peer-reviewed articles.

Insert any ethnicity in [here] a household with both parents raising the kids is better for the kids, the parents and society as a whole.

Clearly you don’t live in the US because that isn’t a one size fits all thing for children of immigrants and it isn’t automatic that all immigrant parents Work hard. The parents and family here in America may not share the news with the family in Nigeria out of shame but some of those kids are out here committing crimes just as often as children of anyone else and some of them learn it from their parents who are heavy into criminal activities and fraud. Anyone who doesn’t believe me can go and look at the DOJ’s website or detailed crime statistics.

Yeah, how does this excuse help you?
He shared the news that he is working his ahss off and things are not easy, he shared the fruits of his labor. No one is saying all of them are doing well. Trust me, if you have to take 3 jobs you are not doing well. But hard work pays...

Do you know how many White meth addicts are married and under the same roof? Or how many couples stay married so they can’t be forced to testify against their spouses if they get caught in their criminal acts? It doesn’t matter if both parents and several generations live in the home, the children aren’t automatically better off with it.
I was born here but I went to high school with several children of immigrants that weren’t born here but were experiencing severe emotional issues because of domestic violence in the home and some who were suffering because their fathers neglected the immediate family in order to send money back to family in Nigeria. Those kids are basically abused and neglected even though both parents are in the home and many of them go on to commit crimes.
Stereotyping is very dangerous, especially since SOME Nigerian men have a reputation among Americans as lazy, abusive men who abuse, neglect, and abandon their hardworking wives and children but give the negative stereotypes to the black Americans or Carribeans.

No problem with taking 3 jobs as long as one partner is at home watching the kids when the other party is working. Things will go wrong if the only parent is working 3 jobs and no one is home to help with the kids

The guy that finished school in record time likely had one of the parents helping with homework regularly and taking him for extra tutoring.

That guy in a different family setting likely will turn out different

Very true. Many of them with potential ended up in the streets.
Family is essential

Hundreds of thousands of them join the military, literally.
According to the Pentagon, 46% of the enlisted 1.3 million men and women in America’s military are BLACK.

Yes

2 black parents have a better chance of raising better kids than a single parent white family

I’d like to know. And it’s not just Black American neighborhoods because divorce statistics for Nigerian and Caribbean immigrants in America are sky high and rising so whatever his prescriptions are need to be applied to all Black people here in the US and abroad. I can’t wait to hear his prescription since SS Africa leads the world in single parent homes. His solution, whatever it is, needs to be applied to black people worldwide.

This is the question I prefer. It is easy for everyone to talk about symptoms but not talk about the cause. When the cause is known, the right prescriptions can be offered.

Sara McLanahan, professor of sociology at Princeton conducted a study on this topic in 2019ish on a research paper titled: Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study.

We know children of Blacks (AA, Africans, Carribeans) and Hispanics have an higher chance of coming from a single parent family. She mentioned the challenges these fathers face with the police and justice systems, with about 40% of the fathers spending some time in prison. 40% is a large number. Are blacks and Hispanics being profiled more than others? So many questions that needs answers.

Lies.

A new study by the Pew Research Center found that the U.S. has the highest rate of children living in single-parent households in the world. Approximately 23% of children under 18 in the U.S. live with just one parent, compared to 7% worldwide. The study found that children from Christian and non-religious families in the U.S. have a similar likelihood of living in a single-parent household. Other countries with a lower rate of children living in single-parent households include China (3%), Nigeria (4%), India (5%), and Canada (15%). The rise in single-parent households in the U.S. is linked to declining marriage rates and an increase in births outside of marriage.

IMAliyu2 is just the modest of the problem.

Stay in the marriage even when your face is being turned to boxing bag or being pummeled/battered.

High percentage of black relationships end due to violence.

Wife beating is so high in Nigeria! Mothers stayed and deal with it their own way.
Here, most won't take such bs - leading to break in the family.

Ben, haven’t you heard or read that for most break in family, violence is the cause ?

Call it what you like but I have several credible sources that say differently. I’ll stick with my sources and post more specifics after reaching my destination.

FYI: 5 of Nigeria’s top artists are baby daddies and one is a babymama. The guys have multiple children out of wedlock with multiple partners. The most popular blogger is a babymama and the romance section on Nairaland is filled with single parents, both male and female, but no one ever uses them as examples.
We all need to stop the stereotyping because it is very hypocritical.
