Hey guys, I am about renting an apartment in the UK, I want to know if it’s a must to pay deposit in the UK and do landlords usually refund this money ?

Hi elders, hope we are all good..

1. Please can anyone share tips on inviting grandma for omugwo? due date is mid 2023 and we want to start processing visit visa now.

2. In applying for the visit visa, which case is stronger?
a. Grandma coming for omugwo (visa application will be done by her daughter who’s on tier 2 dependent visa)
Or
b. Grandma coming for her brother in laws burial (visa application will be done by the her sister, the widow who’s a British citizen)

Thank you 🙏🏽

My mum's visa was approved 2 weeks ago (8 days after her biometrics). I think it's more of making the application as straightforward as possible. Some folks suggested not including the fact that she's coming for Omugwo which makes sense as this may be interpreted as coming as a carer (paid). The documents we submitted are:

1) Invitation letter stating the purpose of her visit (tourism) and stating all expenses will be borne by us
2) Payslip/bank statements/employment contract
3) Rent agreement to prove accommodation arrangement
4) My passport and BRP
5) Her bank statements - had about 100k naira
6) She's retired and petty trader (did not state this so that she won't be asked for tax docs etc..), instead we got her pastor to write a letter that she's a volunteer in church bla bla...just to prove ties to Nigeria. We got my father-in-law to write a consent letter for my MIL when she was coming last year.
7) My birth certificate- I think this is very important as I know someone whose application was rejected with the VO stating that they weren't able to prove ties. They reapplied and attached the birth certificate and was granted.

Hope this helps!

Must you pay deposit. No
Will you pay deposit. Yes
Will LL refund your deposit. Obligated to (if there're no 'damages')
This is where it get interesting. On the subject of deposit, it's reassuring that deposit is safe!
There is a Tenancy deposit protection in the UK . LL are obligated to follow the rules. YouKay Deposit protection schemes and landlords
Extracts of Ma Ticha and Elder Lexusgs430 might be of assistance.
Lexusgs430:
Don't panic....... If your LL fails to deposit your deposit...... LL would be made to refund *3 of your deposit........ Don't panic ....... cheesy
https://d-w-s.co.uk/implications-landlords-failure-protect-tenants-deposit/
Ticha:
You have a tenancy under law so fear not. As long as you're paying rent as agreed, you have an active tenancy. Lexus is right. In this case, you won't even lose your deposit regardless of damage because he has broken the law by not lodging it and therefore can't claim anything off it. Even if he lodges it later, he has still failed to abide by the tenancy act. The good thing about not having a signed agreement is that there are no detrimental clauses he can enforce - at all.
... ...
But if you're leaving after 6 months, just relax and take him to the dispute resolution once the tenancy ends and claim back your deposit plus the extra. And if he has not provided any right to rent documents, claim the whole of your 6 months rent back too. First and foremost - check that he definitely hasn't protected it. You can easily check any of the 3 services - https://www.gov.uk/tenancy-deposit-protection/if-your-landlord-doesnt-protect-your-deposit
Make sure you give the right notice. Which is one month. Read here for more information - https://www.gov.uk/private-renting-tenancy-agreements/your-landlord-wants-to-end-your-tenancy

Quick question guys, so an immigrant on a tier 2 skilled worker visa got another job outside of his current city, He resigned from his current job and switched visa with the new employer as sponsor. He then was unable to relocate his family because he couldn't find a house to live in on time.

While waiting to get a house, his start date for the next job passes by so he was unable to work 37.5hrs (sponsored visa requirement). During the wait period, he had due communication with the new employer.

Will this be a problem in getting his ILR when the time comes?

Also can he engage in bank shifts with his old employer while he waits?

Thanks

You WILL NOT need a consent letter from an adult permitting another adult to travel.

No offence meant to the OP but this is notverygood practice carried over from Saudi applications. The EO will find it very very odd.

You may get rid of those items quicker if you post an ad in Facebook Marketplace, you can put the price for as low as £30-50, if you put FREE you may struggle to get rid of those items.

For one week or two? No it won't be a problem. The most important thing is that the annual salary meets up with the standards set. Of course, the monthly ones should also add up to that just in case he'll need to prove it via payslips at some point. But I doubt anybody is going to be checking his pay for every week in the past 4 or 5 years when that time comes. Still, minimising such disruptions is best so he should find away to start the work ASAP.

Can he work with his former employer in the interim? Yes, if the job is on the shortage occupation list OR is in the same occupation code as the job he is sponsored for, he can work with them without needing to notify Home Office. The caveat is that such work must not pass 20 hours per week. Otherwise, he'll need to be sponsored for the second job, too.

Finding out might actually be a slip up from you one way or the other, unless you sure you can be fully discreet about it.

Check letting agents with physical offices around where you want to rent, they are usually flexible especially if you are not a student 👌

I can’t see anything in the blurb to suggest that. Can you post link please?

Firstly, check the terms and conditions of the accounts you can switch to, namely Santander Edge,
1I2I3, Everyday, Select, or Private Current Account:

https://www.santander.co.uk/assets/s3fs-public/AD_documents/h257208_p562799_coremc0933jan23h_lr.pdf

Thereafter, check the links for each of the Santander current accounts mentioned above and all have eligibility (how it works) criteria excerpted:
''You are over 18 and live in the UK permanently''

Eligibility for switching bonus is for those with permanent residency in UK

I don't know about other banks but for First Direct I switched and got the money last year on a student visa.

Good day,

I recently got PSW and my BRP but my children BRP were not sent. I have reported via mail and got a response that the production had problem and they (BRP delivery team) will refer the issue to caseworker. Has anyone experienced this before and how long this might likely take to resolve?

I urgently need to prove status for my son who’s to attend college. Not sure I can use share code for prove to work/rent. I tried to use UKVI decision letter but his secondary school career advisor advise against.
Kindly advise me how I can prove his status?

Dear all,
I urgently needed help on what I can do to prove the status of my son before the admission application closes. I have not be contacted by caseworker till now and BRP was not sent.

Thanks.

In the absence of his BRP, you would have to use all that you have (whilst hoping BRP arrives last second).........

Why was that advised against............

Hello elders,

Thank you for your help and advice, I have been liking responses to my visit visa questions.

I have one more question for now

Grandma is not paying anything towards her visit. So how do I answer the question below, I tried to put 0gbp but it wasn’t accepted.

Should we send some naira for her to use as her personal contribution to the trip?
Or
Should we leave the 4k there (though it’s our contribution, not hers)?
