Modified: According to orisa37, Russia and China just discovered Africa. Abi?
After all these years, why is it now that they chose to colonize Africa?
Did they suddenly discover hidden magical powers?
We're yet to be emancipated from the Western colonizers/Neocolonialsts.
Nigeria is only independent (in theory).
What have your (orisa's) masters done for you?

Critical thinking might be a luxury that you're not able to afford.
You've chosen your own path and other Africans have chosen a different route.
Progressive Africans are fostering mutually beneficial relationships based on the principles of equality and respect with countries that serves thier national interest better than your masters.

All the gold that Gaddafi kept where are they? Yeah your guess is as good as mine. The USA stole the gold . Thiefs.

Mistake that plunged the country into poverty and anarchy. What of Saddam Hussein and Iraq? It was mistake too abi.

Africa doesn't want to be independent. Either western nations or Asian nations are still subjecting her to Morden day slavery. And her people are celebrating.

Similar to APC's auchins enslaved by a known druglord.

First off, Nigeria is not UNITED as the case may be. Take a look at the tribalistic squirmishes going on every day on this forum.
We've NEVER had it this bad. Certainly the divide and conquer stuff still works. As majority of NIGERIANS are willing to jeopardize their future of a piece of bread if (my own) is involved.
It was a deliberate BRAINWASHING..

Secondly, the western hegemony will not ALLOW that. To be Frank with you, if you had a neighbour who inherited a lot of wealth from his diseased parents but is also a dummy, loves to get drunk and gives away large sums of money in that drunken state, would you support him going for mental rehab or would you counsel him to be prudent with spending or try to be accountable and serious with himself?

No you wouldn't because that would jeopardize your "benefits" from him.
AFRICA is a very rich and wealthy continent. We have it all from crude to diamonds and gold. DR CONGO is arguably the richest continent on earth in terms of sheer amounts of natural resources but they are also one of the poorest in terms of economy.

They are the ones with the actual gold reserves but are maligned because of "the nations at the top".

You remember what happened to Qaddaffi, the past president of Libya when he wanted to bring a policy of trading in gold, which was available in Africa?

They framed him up and exterminated him. His proposal would weaken and render the dollar useless. With him, was gone all the plans of a pan African development.

Yeah keep blaming the West while millions of Nigerians are trying to vote an old, sickly, presumably notorious thief/drug dealer into power for various reasons ranging from tribalism to greed.

The West has never been our problem. We are. When we are ready, nothing can stop our progress. Take a cue from countries which did it.

U.S. approves $1 billion arms sale to Nigeria According to a statement Thursday by the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the equipments are to cost Nigeria about $997 million. ByNasir Ayitogo    April 14, 2022

The U.S. government has announced that it has approved the sale of attack aircraft and other equipments to Nigeria. The aircraft are expected to to be used against terrorists and other gunmen operating in the West African country.

According to a statement Thursday by the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the equipments are to cost Nigeria about $997 million.

The acquisition of the aircraft and other equipments comes less than a year after the U.S. government supplied the country with 12 units of super tucano aircrafts paid for by Nigeria.

Once again, let me reiterate the fact that Nigeria is only independent in theory.
This statement from pansophist supports the facts.
Yes there's tribalism in Nigeria...but who forcefully amalgamated the North and the South? For what reason?
Who drew our borders?
From the extensive research I've done on the amalgamation on North and Southern Nigerian, I found that the interests of the various tribes in this colony had not been taken into consideration, rather, it was the clandestine interest of the colonialists that took primacy. The amalgamation of Northern and Southern Nigeria is rooted in the practice of divide and conquer. It was a ploy to take advantage of the various differences between the several ethnic groups that make up Nigeria and exploit them.
It was to make sure that we were never united and by extension- weakened to put up any resistance. It was meant to distract us and divert attention away from the atrocities of the colonizers.
Beyond tribalism, there are other problems facing developing countries. There's the issue of economic disparity engineered and orchestrated by the minority hegemons in order to keep the majority in modern day slavery.

pansophist:

Of course, I know. I have always said earlier that what Africans considered independence was a transition of the old method of exploitation (colonialism), to a new, self-sustaining, sophisticated method of permanent subjugation (imperialism).

They replace the white colonial faces with black faces, whom they promise all the support and will ignore all their crimes if they continue sustaining all their exploitative structures that were built in the colonial era.

So as countries were getting their so-called independence, they were ushered into western imperialistic ecosystems. So they became a member of the UN, and ICC, must use the dollar, imposed educational systems, their corporations coming in to control their resources, (eg Shell and Nigeria oil), and so on.

In simple terms, think of how a butcher moves the cows from the farm to the slaughterhouse. In the cow's mind, he is free from the enclosed farm, but the slaughterhouse though modern and shiny with machines is worse than where they were coming from.

You see the way the US froze billions of dollars of Afghanistan's foreign reserves, and as they did with Russia as well, that's exactly the fate that awaits any country that tries to pull off their imperialistic eco-system.

While we are busy fighting each other like idiots, they are up there designing sophisticated systems to keep others down, and themselves on top. And this world order must go, or else, the global south will never develop.

China refused to be part of that system, now look at them. Iran refused and was sanctioned to death, but they still thrive and built their own planes and so forth. Until we leave western dependence and walk our own part, no magic Peter Obi will perform. It's like putting a pilot in a ship, it can't do anything with it.

How can the world be democratic when less than 15% of the world population (the west) controls everything? if this is not authoritarianism, then what is authoritarianism?

But I always take responsibility, so I won't blame them much, I blame our ancestors for letting this degrade this badly, and makes it harder for current and future generation to solve. The rot is too much.

The interest of the West in developing countries is to make sure the developing countries remain impoverished so the citizens of those countries would find migration to the West for 'greener pastures' attractive where they're then exploited and exposed to modern day slavery.
Their intent is to keep the West as a 'paradise' in the minds of the manipulated public.
The West influenced the politics of Africa directly/indirectly.
The right govt will get the 'Gaddafi treatment'

AnyanwuSilas:

I'm an Igbo man and not a Muslim, I know what's good for Africans, it's the West that destabilise our continent and take our best brain, why should I live in the US or RUSSIA when chance is being created by Russia to build my home?

Russia have more nuclear warheads than the US, nobody will win a nuclear war, it will simply destroy the world, as an African it's better the world be destroyed and sent back to stone age instead the US will enslave the world, you think Russia is alone?
The US are hypocrite, what did Obama do for Africans as a black man? they rather used him to destabilised Africa, was it not Obama that killed Gaddafi,

Let’s be Frank, a multipolar world is better than one world order.

It has been established and it's a fact that the West had engaged in pre colonial, colonial and post colonial exploitation of African resources. The US/West exploits the world through various clandestine activities but most especially it's currency. The economic disparity between the collective west and developing countries can be considered an exploitation or rebranded slavery. The legal minimum wage for jobs in most western countries is the equivalent of $10/hr. For illustration, A factory worker in the US/west earns $15/hr, 8 hours per day in a 5 day work week = about $500 weekly. In 2 weeks time, this factory worker would be able to save about $1000 for a tech product (let's say an iPhone).... I know this worker will have other needs but this is just for illustration. Meanwhile, a factory worker in Nigeria working 8 hours a day..maybe 10K a day ..in a 5 day work week would earn like 50K naira weekly...in 2 weeks, that's 100K naira (less than $250 as of today). Both had the same labour input but the Nigerian was exploited by the hegemon. The West influenced the politics of Africa. Most African countries are still under defacto colonialism. The Western interference in our domestic politics allows them install puppets('African leaders') who in turn give the colonizers a free hand to loot our resources. We can take advantage of the rivalry between the West and East and use it to our own benefit.

Africa Can Never Be Independent Continent, Why Is It Appear In Such A Way? It Is The Fault Of African Leaders Who Are Not Even Showing Effort Of Being Abdicated From Emezzling African Funds And Resources. The Worst Part Is, Thousand Of Africans Are Still Dancing Arround Without Knowing The Real Root Of Their Suffering. Some Are Having The Sense Of Blaming The West, But Does It Mean The West Know The Main Root That Keep On Down Grading Africa From Being Developped? No, Africa Is A Continent With Many Resources, With Many Individual Who Are Not Even Ready To Manage The Resources With Ideological Sense. And These People That Could Rearrange Africa To Perfection Are Dancing To The Tone Of Foreign Supremacy Because They Are Not Purely Independent. When I Keep On Visualizing The Year Nigerians Were Confusing The World That They Are Free From The Bondage Of White Supremacy I Always Smile. But Who Told Them That They Are Independent? That Question Is Underred Preservation For Nigerians To Answer.

Mayor of Toronto Resigns

His resignation comes days before the city budget was due to be presented and lands amid mounting public concern about homelessness, crime and the municipal transit system

The mayor who presided over two relatively scandal-free terms at City Hall and had recently been elected for a third lobbed a political bombshell on Friday when he announced he’d be stepping down after having an affair with a former member of his office staff. The Toronto Star first broke news of the relationship that Tory later characterized as a “serious error in judgment.”

Tory is leaving his post amid heightened criticism about the state of Toronto under his leadership. His opponents in the October 2022 municipal election noted the high cost of housing, aging infrastructure, overflowing garbage bins and shuttered parks as they tried to mount a credible challenge to his leadership. They did not succeed — Tory garnered 64 per cent of the vote in that contest, with runner-up Gil Penelosa securing just 18 per cent. (E be like say Tory dey use Asiwaju soap).

Tory also faced criticism for his handling of Toronto’s housing crisis. The city’s shelter capacity is stretched to its limits amid increasing strain, and the provincial Progressive Conservative government cited the need to build more homes as part of the rationale behind the new Strong Mayor powers.

Susannah Bunce, associate professor at the University of Toronto’s human geography department, said she hopes the incoming mayor will leverage the strong mayor powers to provide affordable housing and expand social services.

The pressing issues facing Toronto, she said, include a cost of living crisis, lack of affordable housing and the growing number of unhoused people.

Just this week, Toronto city council scrapped a recommendation to keep its warming centres open around the clock until mid-April after a bout of extreme cold, as well as to declare a public health crisis over lack of shelter space. With support from Tory, council voted instead to call for more federal support and have staff study the idea further.

Bunce said there’s currently a lack of public investment in social service infrastructure, leaving community organizations to try and do more with less while cutting staff and services.

She argued Tory’s replacement, who has yet to be named even on an interim basis, should focus on addressing the growing disparity between wealthy Torontonians and those struggling to make ends meat (sic) [I believe they meant meet].

“The new mayor needs to have longer term visions, so beyond just what to do in terms of enticing development, but actually addressing the issue of and the need for [b]equitable development
,” she said.

In a Saturday statement on Tory’s resignation, Coun. Dianne Saxe said his affair “will cost Toronto taxpayers millions for a byelection during already precarious financial times.”

It's noteworthy that unlike his predecessor (Rob Ford) and the current premier of Ontario (Doug Ford), Mayor John Tory hasn't been caught using cocaine.

Thank you for your service Mayor John Tory.

The scandal all centres on one key question: did the prime minister, someone in his office or other government officials try to pressure Jody Wilson-Raybould when she was attorney general to step in and resolve the corruption and fraud case against SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. in an effort to spare the Montreal-based engineering giant from criminal prosecution?"

Canada has, once again, slipped down an international ranking for corruption, standing at 13th in the world and well back of world leaders, such as Denmark, New Zealand and Singapore.
Since 2015, the year Liberal leader Justin Trudeau became Prime Minister, Canada has fallen nine points, to a score of 74 out of 100 on the Transparency International's 2021 Corruption Perceptions Index. No country has seen a bigger drop in ratings since 2017 than Canada.

While the latest ranking is Canada's worst in a decade, the country remained at the top of the rankings in the Americas, where progress on stamping out corruption has "ground to a halt" and democracies like Chile and the United States rank even lower.

Then the West turns around and collects money (milking the already impoverished country) to sell weapons to those same countries. (They break your legs then give you clutches and say they're helping you)
