Do I Take This UK Job Or Go To Canada With My PR by Nobody: 12:15pm On Feb 18, 2023
Hi Everyone,

Your input, especially from those with first hand experience would be appreciated.

We got Canadian PR last year and are aiming to relocate to Canada this summer (family of 5).

However, got a job offer (65k GBP) per year plus sponsorship for just myself. I will have to sort of Visa fees for my family as company will not do this. So I am just thinking how much I will have to budget just for the move.

The sponsorship will be for 3 years so I need to budget for NHS surcharge (3× 600 X 4) and visa fees 600 x 4 I think. Also, I think I have to réserve a minimum balance in my account?

I visited UK last December and the cost of living is high.

Option 2 is to continue with out Canadian plan as we have PR. The thing is no job lined up. I have stepped up search though.

ILR will take 5 years while we already have PR.

Anyone with experience with having to choose from the two countries?

Regards.

land in a cheap province in Canada with your family, then you proceed to Uk after activating your PR. Then keep applying for jobs from the UK and move after. Or do softlanding in Canada, activate your PR and return the family to Nigeria while only you proceeds to UK.

Thanks. I used the Express Entry pathway. I and my wife did language tests.

If you do not mind me asking, why do you want to leave UK for Canada?

I was thinking so. I am thinking so too but have you got any experiences?

Also, it appears post-secondary schooling will be cheaper for PR holders?

In the UK, despote holding EU passport we would pay a lot.

We landed last year. So went back to earn some cash whilst preparing to go back to Canada.

So for the UK job, the start date is in the summer.

From your response, I suspect that u are male. Would need some more information on your family composition.
How old are your kids?
What’s your wife’s career specialisation?
Do u have any support (family) in Canada?
The answer to these questions would determine what advise I can give to you.

It’s quite sad that most of our folks went to the UK to study and after paying 12k pounds for a masters degree they are left with little or no option than to do care job after completion of their studies😥 I have guys/families who went through this route and they are regretting making such investments. Many of them are looking for ways to come to 🇨🇦

In whatever you do don't let your PR get revoked.

You might live to regret it.

This decision is very easy to make. UK is over rated. Why will you be considering UK when you have your Canada PR already? To me, you will have it better in Canada with your PR than UK.

Don't let the UK job be your only driving force. Remember, you will have to sort out your family visa by yourself. That requires lots of money. While for the Canada PR, it already covered the whole family.

Stop racking your brain. If you move to the UK, you will regret such decision. Better move to Canada with your family.

People do get jobs too in Canada when they land. You just have to put in little efforts.

Please, don't make the wrong choice for your family, considering the fact that in 3 yrs time, you will acquire your citizenship.

Some persons in the UK are planning moving to Canada or Australia. UK is not that rosy for immigrants. Pack your bags and move to Canada Asap. Don't think it twice.

Thanks for the detailed followup. Yes, male. Wife has short experience (1 year) in healthcare in the UK and is looking to study nursing or a related course in health care. Kids are 10 and below.

Thanks a lot. We are mindful of that fact. When I see the stream of UK nationals heading to Canada or making enquiries about Canada, I feel that we must not treat our PR with kid gloves.

Thanks for the headsup. So the only issue with Canada I feel is they do not appears to valorise European engineering experience. Almost feel like people have to take junior roles and have to go through the process of Foreign Credential Recognition and all.

Stepping up job search though and the ideal situation will be to get a job before landing Canada. For now, I am making the most of the pre-arrival settlement services, networking and stepping up my résumé.

1. Move to UK and take up the job offer.

2. Move my family to Canada, this will give me wife and kids access to quality education and means of life. This will also put them on the part to getting their citizenship.

3. Wify should take up a small job that would allow her take care of the kids while studying for her nursing exams.

4. Wify would benefit from the child care benefits of up to 700cad per child coupled with the free education for the kids. The CCB money and her small salary can be used to take care of the home front while u work and save heavily from your UK salary.

5. I would make periodic visits to my family in Canada maybe once a quarter. while working in UK, I will be actively applying for Jobs in Canada and eventually relocate to join my family in Canada.

However, if I were in your shoes, I wouldn’t do this because I don’t think I can leave apart from my family ( I would move with my family to Canada and keep pushing from there)… but if u are not bothered about staying away from ur family then u can go ahead with my advise.

I don’t feel, I know Atleast 5 friends who are currently trying to navigate their way to Canada from UK.

Caveat: They all came into Canada via study route, so your case is quite different from theirs.

This is a very interesting plan. Well thought out. However, like you, it will be very difficult to leave my family alone in a new country.

Unfortunately I don’t have so much experience in the engineering profession, however, I am aware that u need some professional certifications to fully delve into that field in Canada. However, don’t limit yourself to what people say, be very positive and optimistic about your plans. I have seen several people get jobs in Canada without having to go a level lower and I believe this can also be your portion if you have the right mindset.
The above being said, you can check the following power coys for job opportunities:
1. Ontario Power Generation (one of the best paying govt agency)
2. Hydro one
3. Enbridge
4 TC Energy cooperation
5. Bruce power
6. IESO

for a company to sponsor your for tier 2 it means there is no available local applicant. Many companies are not open to this. Also many people are studying funny courses in funny schools just to japa. Like the picture below there are many schools there were Nigerians and Indians are the major students. If there was job prospects from those courses locals would be studying there too. Last last we are Nigerians we go survive

Thanks. I have stated the process towards becoming a professional engineer in Ontario. I have submitted my credentials to PEO and I am currently working on my experience report.

Thanks a lot for the list. I know the first and fifth.

The thing I have observed is that they live references a lot. So they love it if you have
a Canadian referee.
