Thanks for sharing this useful information, just of recent one particular company reach out to me for a particular vacant position and after scaling through all the processes i was told to resume immediately, ah just like that without offer letter and they told me i will get my offer letter on the first day of my resumption, after some days when they didn't hear from me they finally sent an offer letter to me. While checking through the third page of the offer letter I saw "six month probation period and employee shall work minimum of two years starting from this date of contracts or else employee should refund three months salary". To me that's a BIG red flag

Thank you for sheding more light on this. I fell victim out of ignorance and desperation. I hope people learn. In fact, do not drop a resignation letter at your current place of work until you have received an offer letter, and accepted the offer.

Had this experience about a year ago. Big organisation with subsidiaries across Africa. Job offer with benefits etc., was communicated via phone and when I politely requested the HR to send me a hard copy of the offer, they insisted I confirm my acceptance via call and that didn’t sit well with me. 👎

Grateful to God for declining the offer 🙏

I can relate with this.

I remember when a female friend of mine went for an interview at a company on the island sometime last year. After the interview and salary negotiation, she left, only for the company to call her the following week to resume.

I advised her to request for the offer letter before any resumption and she did, unfortunately, the agreed salary was intentionally not stated on the affer letter. When she inquired to know if it was an error on their part, she was told that is the amount they can pay and that it is left for her to either accept or reject it. Well, she rejected it and now she is doing very fine elsewhere.

Some Nigerians believe they are the smartest of all.

If I reduce these terms into writing and send back to to the company and they do not write back within a reasonable time countering my understanding of the terms, will i have no legs to stand on? I want an academic discussion, I am not fighting.

It's one of my policies to always ensure there is a mutually signed offer letter from a prospective employer before quitting my current job. Word of mouth is never enough

Fact.
In addition, many people don't even bother to read an offer letter. Once given they just rush directly to the monthly pay, sign and forget the rest.

Please always take your time to read any offer letter you are being given. A word is enough for the wise
