My Honest Take On The 2023 General Elections. by Vado2: 7:37pm On Feb 23, 2023 |
With this general election, I must admit that a lot has changed in terms of my viewpoint. Even among those who are educated, tribalism and hypocrisy are Nigeria's biggest problems. I had a preconceived impression about the Ibos before the election that they were the most tribally inclined people on earth, but I was completely wrong. Although they may occasionally fight with other tribes, they are not a bunch of hypocrites. There is no group of people more tribalistic than the Yorubas. Simply because a candidate is your brother doesn't make it wrong to vote for him. Jonathan had a similar treatment from the South South. But concealing it behind the pretense that he built Lagos, I guess that stinks. Lagos already existed before The Yoruba Candidate entered politics. They "Say omo-Ibo" go back to Anambra when you attempt to engage them in intellectual conversations. Individuals work hard to make money; nobody is paid by the state, and neither are we given free rides or water. Just ask the Yoruba candidate's supporters what he did while he was a governor, and they'll start discussing initiatives that other governors have undertaken. And guess what he did not get along with these governors, like BRF and AA for instance, he even fought against their reelection. He suddenly made a route for them. Why does his supporters give him credit to the governors of Lagos State but not to the governors he puts on other Yoruba states who perform appallingly?? such as the former governor of Osun and the current governor of Ogun State? A dummy would do well as Lagos Governor. Lagos already had one of the biggest economy in Africa before 1998 They began playing the tribal card "Our Lagos" as soon as it was clear that people could see through their lies. the same Lagos that was built by Niger-Delta Oil. Even the elites exhibit hypocrisy when they start uttering "Yoruba ronu" and "Omo-ale." Imagine for a second that the Yoruba candidate came from a different tribe; the world wouldn't have heard enough. Brilliant thinkers, like Wole Soyinka, would have spoken up and even funded protests to stymie the candidacy, but since he is their son, everyone has been silent. What about the religious leaders? In the church, some of them had already established a political department, but everything changed when their favorite candidate lost the primary. The Church has now adopted a neutral stance after initially showing signs of active participation. Currently, they are idly perched and using parables to communicate. The Yorubas are the only tribe I've observed that is overtly tribalistic. That is complete. Their leaders are doing this by appealing to their ingrained tribalism. Nobody can conceal it. Although not all Yorubas are like way, this is my honest assessment of them. This is not meant as a slight against the decent, at peace, and wise Yoruba people. Nigeria is for everyone, and this is merely a belligerent cry to look above ingrained tribalism. 22 Likes 3 Shares |

Omo, fear majority of Yorubas but all of them are not like that. I use to think that they are very enlightened until this whole election things started. Them fall hand, many of them allowed tribal bigotry buy their conscience. We all know that Tinubu is the worst of all the major contenders but will tribalism allow them agree? Peter Obi is winning anyways 8 Likes 2 Shares |

Although your point is correct for majority of yorubas but I can tell you that many of us don't reason like that. For me, it will be over my dead body to vote for Tinubu, instead I will not vote. There's no amount of tribal sentiment that will confuse me. Tinubu is questionable on every ramifications and my conscience will not be sold for tribal bigotry. We have many Yorubas who share my opinion. It's a disgrace that majority still don't see it that way 22 Likes 5 Shares |

MORE SO HE IS BEING WRECKED BY SHETTIMA DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY ARE BOTH FROM THE SAME POLITICAL ZONE. THE IRONY IS, NEITHER PETER OBI NOR KWANKWASO HAVE ANY CHANCES OF WINNING. You have to have serious hatred for your fellow human being to want Tinubu to be president at this age, especially since the backbone of his political empire is theft and nobody living, including Tinubu, has denied this. Making the issue ethnocentric is an insult to Yoruba ppl only. If Tinubu is your brother you are insulting yourself. So fulani brings Atiku, Hausa brings Kwankwaso, Igbo brings Obi, and you bring the one that is urinating on himself. Meaning that you believe this is who and what represents your people. If it does not represent your people, dont make it an ethnic election. If that is your champion and representative as an ethnic group then you have a lower opinion of yourself than most outsiders have of you. Orji Kalu has tried to run for elections. If you go to my village and tell them Orji Kalu represents Igbos they will insult you back. This is why he gets nowhere. Rochas, Hope, etc. But 'our brother pur brother' has created the monster that is Tinubu and APC. 2 Likes |

All what you are saying doesn't make sense if you can't tell us how Peter Obi as a governor for 8 years is better than Tinubu's 8 years as governor. It's also very funny how you expect Obi to get 80%+ vote from a tribe who before now wished for the end of Nigeria, called Nigeria different names, insulted other Tribes and threatened to take the lands of other Tribes and killed people who don't have same view with them and coincidentally are his tribes me, and you called them Nationalist but calling another tribe who are voting for a candidate from there ethnic group tribalist. We should stop all these and let everyone support anyone. If with the way you campaign about Obi and he wins but things don't workout well for people I'm sure you would leave everyone to their faith. 4 Likes |

This OP is not realistic at all. I want to think otherwise. Yorubas are more accommodating than Igbos. Akabueze became commissioner in Lagos state one other fwllow House of Representatives. How many can boast of same treatment in any SE states? In our markets, you hardly can see Igbos traders employing other tribes rather would go to his village. The kind of large heart government ran by OBJ cannot be from any Igbo leader. Stupid people Lagos has been ahead other places in Nigeria before almagamation. It was a meeting place between local and Portuguese trades who gave the place Lagos. It was the seat of government during colonial era. That Igbo build Lagos is a stupid assertion. Why can't they build their own lands? A curse? Igbos are intrinsically selfish that apart from gain's they make in the host communities nothing more you can gain. To add salt to injury, they begin to abuse their hosts. Ingrate people. They want what they cannot offer. How many people go to Igbo land for greener pastures? Who wouldn't build in Igbo land if they are that friendly? The OP is simply an idiot. 4 Likes |

Workch:I swear my brother! I used to think the Yorubas were very enlightened and educated folks. I thought the north even did more tribalism than the rest of Nigeria but you see this election cycle, e clear everything! Hahahaha. When Tifnubu finally loses this elections on Saturday, I'm really interested on how they'll carry themselves henceforth. Throughout this election, I didn't see any Igbo person saying they'd vote Obi because he's Igbo. Obi even told them don't vote 4 me because I'm Igbo. Vote for me because I'm the most qualified! 1 Like |

3ple9iner: They only desired to leave the union with Nigeria because of their marginalization, both politically and socially. They are considered as second-class citizens, and to make matters worse, some government officials made some provocative remarks. Nnamdi Azikiwe, an Ibo man, was one of the key figures in the pre-independence scene. He teamed up with Obafemi Awolowo to secure Nigeria's independence, but they are now entirely ignored in the grand scheme of things. |

Vado2: Tell us your incosequential tribe name let's start from there. We agree you are not Nyanmuri but at least you suppose get tribe name. Wetin dey pain you if Yoruba people be tribalist? Abi no be same Ibo people wey dey cry Biafla country few month ago, if they are not tribalist why they wan leave Nigeria get their own separate country? So suddenly now because Obi is on the ballot, Igbo man don suddenly turn one Nigeria people wey love all tribe. Same people wey been dey call us Afonja/betrayers and dey call Northerners cow all this while? I am happy I am a Yoruba tribalist. If your tribe get recognition reach one Yoruba sub-group, you self go dey proud to be your tribe tribalist. 7 Likes |

MightySparrow: I never said that they are amicable. In my perspective, the Ibos are inherently self-centered and selfish. They are not hypocrites; they can only put their best foot forward for profit. The Ibo candidate is not being marketed as a tribal candidate like the Yoruba candidate is. Talk about the Edo people if you want to discuss a detrabalized tribe. Only in Yoruba area will a trader become enraged with you because you are speaking pidgin; she doesn't care if you aren't speaking Yoruba as long as she can lose that transaction. This is a unique personal experience. Only in Yoruba territory do people refer to you as "Omo Ibo," even if you are not Ibo. OBJ is a detribalized leader, that’s the reason a large number of Yorubas don’t like him. Just the way the North likes their leaders hardcore Muslims, the Yorubas like their leaders hardcore tribalist. 2 Likes |

Vado2: While I completely agree with your assessment of the APC candidate, I don’t like post like this because there are too many Yoruba people that would rather vote for a piece of wood than vote for the king of thugs. The sheer amount of propaganda that has been deployed by the man that masterminded the worst federal government in the history of our country is actually incredible. I almost find it hard to blame the people that have fallen for the tribal baiting and revisionist history. The APC candidate has executed a full on assault on the minds of the Nigerian people. Still, I’m convinced that most people of all tribes have completely rejected APC and their disgraceful candidate. The only chance they have is their so called structures which is just code for vote-buying, vote-suppression and vote rigging. But the will of the people is extremely strong this time so I believe we will win. And if we are lucky, APC will be completely humiliated. These are exciting days. Better times are coming. Vote Obi or literally anyone else but APC ❤️ 1 Like |
