00FFT00: That’s dumb so what happens if there’s a rerun and Obi gets 90%. Meaning non of the others can be announced winners despite Obi not getting 25% of the other 25 states ! I think it means you have to get 25% of 25 states ( 36 states + FCT (37 technically ) ) 2 Likes |

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is the capital territory of Nigeria, and it is in this territory that the capital city of Abuja is located. The FCT is not a state but is administered by elected officials who are supervised by the federal government. I think Buhari set us all up, they will definitely form an interim government while there is a rerun. 3 Likes |

SmartyPants:State the law. We debate a lot here without quoting the actual law. Section 134 of the constitution states that a candidate will be declared winner of a presidential election if he has “(a) he has the majority of votes cast at the election; and (b) he has not less than one-quarter of the votes cast at the election in each of at least two-thirds of all the States in the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja 2/3 of the States and the FCT. It's in black and white. This is the first time a leading presidential candidate is falling short of the 25%. 3 Likes |

When you are filled with hate. You Gail to understand simple English “We have 36 states of the federation and two-thirds of that is about 25. So, if you are a presidential candidate, you must have 25 percent of the total votes cast in at least 25 states of the federation before you are declared [winner]. If nobody has that, if the candidate with the highest number of votes still fails to have the required 25 percent, there will be a rerun election,” |

Re: Peter Obi Wins FCT Presidential Election by NothingDoMe: 11:19am On Feb 28, 2023 |
sat70:This is a nice analysis but you can't make up your own laws. This is the law: Section 134 of the constitution states that a candidate will be declared winner of a presidential election if he has “(a) he has the majority of votes cast at the election; and (b) he has not less than one-quarter of the votes cast at the election in each of at least two-thirds of all the States in the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja It's looks petty but that's the law. No leading candidate has gotten less than 25% until today. So we'll see if INEC will overrule it like it overruled itself on the use of BVAS. 3 Likes |
