DeusXmachina: Nature does not absorb all what it produces. Yes, it is a cycle but what makes you think that all the Carbon Nature produces is absorbed by nature? there was a time the earth was white... it was covered with snow and the average temp is -54... Scientists claimed then no humans were present. so how did the earth get so hot from -54? another point. you are claiming the earth absorbed the Co2 but what was the equilibrium? I mean, Humans are now 8 billion, and breathing releases tonnes of CO2, what about Animals? cows? their numbers are increasing too. Deforestation? how do the trees take away the co2 when they are being cut down, how about bushfires? volcanic activities etc? you cannot with a clear conscience assert that the carbon produced by nature is taken by nature completely. there is no way to measure the extent at which the carbon is absorbed. DeusXmachina: No, the numbers have not been adjusted. there is a reason why the equator is hotter than anywhere on the planet. because more energy from the sun reaches it. there is a lot we don't understand. the effect the moon has on the earth is vital to the cooling of the earth as well. how it tilts the earth, etc. the state or proximity of the earth to the sun and the moon is not the same as it was 10 years ago or 50 years ago. there are a lot of factors to consider here. the moon is moving away from the earth, the sun is getting closer to the earth because it is expanding. it is getting hotter as well. all this are a factor... and in the last 50years, they say the earth has warmed up by just 1degree DeusXmachina:the increase in Co2 is natural, what do you mean by somehow proven to be natural? before the industrial age, there was increase in Co2... there has always been. Climate change is natural. this is why they should have stuck with the term GLOBAL WARMING. Climate will always change... we should be less reliant on Fussil fuel. except you want to go back to the stone age. Also, do you think Carbon Tax will solve anything? so why do government want to tax people? 2 Likes |

So Tinubu has been chosen to lead Nigeria to the promised land. Hopeful for a better Nigeria for Nigerians living in Nigeria. Hope he will do well for the country for the better. |

Let's pause for a minute and appreciate what VP Harris have done so far. It will take me three pages to list all the meetings, legislation, and enacted policies she's been involved in. Do you notice there's nothing faux news and sane republiqans have to say about her? The only fools that will slander her will bring back their infidelity conspiracy or they go full Semitic on the husband or focus on her race. But they can't attack her quiet blistering success so far. 1 Like

Obrigardo: I think you mean Nigerians are lost, since Nigeria has remained in the general same place that it's always been at. Thankfully, we will some day find ourselves. These things just take time unfortunately, and sometimes, generations. Watch 1883 or any Western to see how lost what became USA was. Today it's touted as a superpower, though some might claim not much changed.

budaatum: 1883 was on my radar, don't know why I didn't start it. One thing Nigerians have never understood is that Nationality doesn't have to be tribalistic. Well some Nigerians and not all. Just look at the republiqans like mtg, tucker, and co pushing White supremacy talking points and you can parallel them to some set of Nigerians that won't share ideals with someone not of their tribe. Just like some republiqans don't understand what a Nation is, same way some Nigerians will think and Nigeria will ever remain this way. |

Obrigardo: Was on my radar too, but didn't start it till I read OhBritannia's wonderful write up about 1923, which I also intend to watch. Some benefit from the way things are and can easily convince others that the way things are is better for them than a change of the way things are. Just imagine MTG tied to the kitchen sink popping out babies to understand the hypocrisy. 2 Likes |

Re: American Politics Thread - 2024 Elections — Biden’s Presidency! by IjeBos(m): 9:32pm On Mar 03, 2023 |
Obrigardo: The problem is Nigeria was an invention of colonials. Too many distinct tribes and differing religions. Not sure it's governable esp. when people are comfortable living in as is. I think it's very peculiar that people are so tribalistic when one of their main cities is literally named after a foreign conqueror. |
Re: American Politics Thread - 2024 Elections — Biden’s Presidency! by Obrigardo: 9:39pm On Mar 03, 2023 |
IjeBos: Was this a conspiracy that the British wanted the Hausa Fulani class to be the defacto rulers of Nigeria. They claimed they know how to rule, the Yoruba educators and Igbo the economic backbone. Hmm, what city is that? In codes please |
Re: American Politics Thread - 2024 Elections — Biden’s Presidency! by budaatum: 9:40pm On Mar 03, 2023 |
IjeBos: You must be describing USA, though I bet you wouldn't call those who migrated from all over Europe and the rest of the world, "distinct tribes", I bet. |
Re: American Politics Thread - 2024 Elections — Biden’s Presidency! by IjeBos(m): 9:55pm On Mar 03, 2023 |
Obrigardo: Not sure the reference to the first part. As to the names. Lagos is Portuguese for Lakes. And to a lesser degree PHC is named after Lewis Harcourt, 1st Viscount Harcourt, then the Secretary of State for the Colonies. There may be more, but those were the ones I read about a while ago. 1 Like |
Re: American Politics Thread - 2024 Elections — Biden’s Presidency! by IjeBos(m): 9:57pm On Mar 03, 2023 |
budaatum: US is distinct. It's a self selecting group of people who decided to leave their own "tribes" and emigrate to somewhere else. And I used distinct tribes because that's how Nigerians see themselves. I get it, people have generational ancestorial land in Nigeria. |
Re: American Politics Thread - 2024 Elections — Biden’s Presidency! by budaatum: 10:03pm On Mar 03, 2023 |
IjeBos: "Self selecting", lol. As in, they self bought a ticket on the boat? You do know some were sent to America as part of a jail sentence, right, and that's apart from those who were sold to the place? "Distinct tribes", distinct nationalities, same difference as far as they sometimes see themselves. Even today you'd see some distinctify themselves when it suits them. 1 Like |

budaatum: Self selecting - post slavery obviously. Really? Why would you even go there? My argument isn't to as what I believe, it's as to what I think Nigerians believe. And I think that point was made during this "election". |
Re: American Politics Thread - 2024 Elections — Biden’s Presidency! by budaatum: 10:17pm On Mar 03, 2023 |
IjeBos: A selective reading of the election results might make one conclude what you have. Fact is, no candidate got only votes from their tribe, which kind of disproves your point, I'd think. Fact is, USA was "an invention of colonials" with people from diverse nationalities, and it seems to be doing pretty well, so that's not the reason Nigeria is not doing so well. If we mended our mentality, I believe we'd do well too. 1 Like |

Re: American Politics Thread - 2024 Elections — Biden’s Presidency! by IjeBos(m): 10:31pm On Mar 03, 2023 |
budaatum:You're being cute by half here. Large swarths of the country voted for their "tribe" or religion electing back to power a party who has basially decimated the country. budaatum:Again, outside of the slaves and the Native Americans whom were basically wiped out, everyone who came here chose to for whatever reason. So, they had a a believe that they would assimilate. Nigeria is a totally different situations where colonials carved up a land filled with indigenous people and at times splitting tribes in order to create a country. A good counter example would be the Native Americans who have reservations where they continue their own culture. budaatum:I'm not sure that is enough. A basic tenet of US law is freedom of religion. You can't have a cohesive country when the government endorses religious law (sharia). |
Re: American Politics Thread - 2024 Elections — Biden’s Presidency! by IjeBos(m): 10:38pm On Mar 03, 2023 |
budaatum: I'm not sure the point you are making. Are you arguing that tribalism and religious differences aren't part in parcel of our problems? And as to those elders.. their words are meaningless to me. They are also part of a broken system always reacting based on where they can get there palms greased. |
Re: American Politics Thread - 2024 Elections — Biden’s Presidency! by budaatum: 10:49pm On Mar 03, 2023 |
IjeBos: Yes you can have a country "when the government endorses religious law". India springs to mind with its endorsed Hinduism, and with a tiny stretch of the imagination, so does China, though you'd need to stretch as far as considering Communism as a sort of religion. Still, you've hit the head of the nail with your "basic tenet of US law", though its not as basic as you claim. Laws are made by people, and such laws as freedom of religion require a sort of enlightenment that we Nigerians just have not yet achieved, which is why we do not have such laws. We'd have them when we educate ourselves. Nigerians seem to not have voted predominantly along religious lines nor tribe, or Tinubu would not have won in states that have few Muslims, and Obi would have won all states with Christian majorities. That said, I'm waiting for a detailed breakdown of votes. It will show how cute I'm being. Personally, personal presumed gain is what I think swayed this election. As much as I'd have preferred Obi, he just hadn't done the groundwork that would have given him the win. If he'd been the PDP candidate, he'd have had a much better chance. 1 Like |

IjeBos: No, I'm not "arguing that tribalism and religious differences aren't part in parcel of our problem". What I'm debating is how much a part of the parcel it actually was. This, after all, is not our first election, and we seem to be all over the place as far as "tribalism and religious differences" determined past results. |
