Only Netflix is the profitable streaming platform at the moment. ONLY HBOMax could join them soon (2024) while the others still languishing in massive loss making. These two just shows that being the cheaper streaming alternative doesn't necessarily mean you'll make money. You'll surely attract subscribers tho. WBD is already prepping to launch it's combined HBOMax + DiscoveryPlus streaming service.

A Man called OTTO "2022" O.T.T.O.! This strip down version of Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino (2008) sees Tom Hanks play the titular character, a grumpy and solitary man whose grumpiness is explained through a side by side back story, with Tom Hanks actual real life son playing his younger version. His life is seemingly turned upside down when a new family moves in next to him. Despite his initial reluctance, Otto is drawn into their lives and learns the value of love, family, and community. Hanks is really solid as Otto and brings his warmth and humor to the role, while still maintaining plenty of grumpiness. But Mariana Treviño was the standout as Marisol one of the new neighbors. She brought an immense amount of charm to the role and makes her disarming of Otto's gruff exterior completely believable. The film has a warm hearted message along with some deeper themes of loss and longing, but at the same time it plays out quite predictably making the overall drama feel more generic than it is emotionally moving. It's a cute film nonetheless, and a pretty easy recommendation. 1 Like 1 Share

"Living" 2022 Live...Just Live! This British remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1952 cult classic "Ikiru", is a heart felt and emotionally poignant effort. Armed with delicate cast delivery and a sombre score, it takes an existential look at life in the face of assured death. Bill Nighy as lead was so profound with a performance of substance and perfectly weighted melancholy that will just shatter your heart. More than deserved that Oscar Best Actor norm. 1 Like 1 Share

oyaskii: So which one is better tho? Gran torino was lit. And Clint was a 101% badass to the end. |

GloriousGbola:lol will totally depend on context tho. I absolutely loved Gran Torino but i will easily put this for a Family's movie night before Gran Torino. |

oyaskii: I don't really think so. Netflix operates in more than 190 countries while Amazon operates in about 200+ countries. Yet it was omitted (maybe cos Prime video rarely drops stats). I just think it's how the streaming business is. Netflix was making losses for years before it scaled into a profit zone. Most likely the expenses to maintain the platforms as well as costs for content production and acquisition. Not to talk of expansion costs mostly plays a role in making it hard to make profits. Although costs of service as well as subscriber count as you say are also pivotal. |

Accident Man 1 & 2- I've had these movies for ages, but I always skipped them. I don't know why but now that I've finally gotten round to watching them, I feel like pinching myself. Hilarious, plenty of laughs, top notch action sequences, lots of gore and blood and some deeper lessons despite all the comedy. I wonder why people say Scott Adkins can't act. He did just fine in his role as the Accident Man. My favourite lines in AM 2: Big Ray: And in the words of the immortal bard, How sharper than a serpent's tooth Is the scorn of a thankless child. Grateful is what you should be!! How poetic |
