I salute you for your comments on this thread so far. Sadly, I have read so many unintelligent comments on this thread.

The bulk of the blame lies with a federal government agency called Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC). Because I do not understand why an automatic or a manually operated safety barricade is not installed where roads intersect with railways - a simple risk assessment with proper action plan from from NRC would have prevented this accident in Lagos and the one that happened in Abuja.

Anyone who has been to Osborne Foreshore Estate Entrance Gate would acknowledge how a safety/security barricade helps. Install the barricades and man them at every intersection. If not manned, then automate the process with few open path sensors (1km at each side before and after each intersection for open and close signals respectively) and actuators/hydraulics. After provision of this important safety infrastructure, next should be enforcement of penalties...

Plus any of the families can sue federal government and receive huge compensations for this neglect

How? People should stop making statements just to score political points.

Obi is my man but let's be real. Can you control a stubborn or drunk driver? These BRT bus drivers drive like they own the road. Same applies to container carrier drivers and all those lorry drivers.
They just want to oppress and intimidate others with smaller vehicles.

There is a limit to what the government can do, we as individuals should learn to do better.

And So it is not Avoidable? Pls Think well...Drunken Driver? What is he Doing on d Sterrring Pls? Peter Obi is very Right and Correct...that Accident is avoidable and so it is Failure of institutional Supervision, Pls

You don't point accusing finger in a situation like this. He is simply taking advantage of this unfortunate situation to score very cheap point against the government. The 'avoided" part of his sentence was a message directed to who? The driver, passengers or the government? Using the word "avoided" is wrong. Planes do crash, accident happens, natural disaster and mishap sef follow..these things happen. Just offer your condolences and move on.

You simply lack basic reasoning

It is completely avoidable.
(a) Cars and buses don't compete with trains. It could have been avoided if the bus waited for the train to cross first.
(b) In the 80's when we had efficient railway operation, every rail crossing had keepers who would normally close the way for cars, buses, pedestrians, etc until the train had crossed. The accident could have been avoided. There's no need for trains in the country if the authorities will not necessary laws in place and employ those who would implement them. The accident could have been avoided.
(c) Trains don't have automatic breaks like cars Bro. Simple respect for your senior can save your life. Buses should respect Train always for peace to reign. The accident could have been averted.

You are completely wrong. The accident could have been avoided if the government had installed a functional rail crossing barricade on that particular spot. Even a drunk driver would slow down once he sights a barricade ahead of him.

I don't know what they are called but there barricades that intercept/stops vehicles whenever trains are a kilometer or thereabouts. It is used everywhere and even the BRT buses will have to stop for the train to move. It was used in Kaduna back then before APC came and even when I was a child those days, it was used so why not now?

And the same South West remained your kinsmen’s USA. The main reason we Yorubas don’t come to your region is cos we see you Igbos as poverty ridden migrants who come to Yorubaland with your worthless children for your survival. You ll only see the Yorubas in large numbers in USA, UK, Australia, Ireland, Canada etc

Human beings naturally migrate towards where their lives could be better which means Igbos see Yorubaland as their means of escaping all the pains, agony and economic hardship in Igboland
Those fallacies have been debunked lol, Igbos are the most traveled groups in Nigeria hands down, most educated now, even your voodoo statistics can't deny that, has the highest number of middle class in Nigeria.
You can't compete in Igbo Land, forget about tribalism, you can stand our success, and stop mentioning countries in abroad, we also beat u there hands down. Aren't u surprised how Onitcha was razed to the ground during the Civil War and have bounced back, name one city better than Onitcha in SW πŸ˜† 🀣 πŸ˜‚

There oight to be barricade at crossing to prevent cars from cross when a train is approaching. The barricade is activated automatically. This is the responsibility of the railway authorities or govt

So tell me something, was it caused by the government?...The driver could have caused it but that's a single person's mistake which could happen anywhere else in the world

No doubt about going back millionaires, wld u step out of your state just for a visit if you found people coming in with polythene bags looking ratcheted .
Plus ask your brothers that have come and gone back home what state in your enclave can compare to the Ogun and Oyo.
The best your onitsha can compare with is Osogbo and this ratcheted people with polythene bags are still moving into Osogbo in the thousands.
