liveLongNprospa: Maybe gvr can give us the breakdown I listed multiple agencies in lagos, all of which you pay different fees to. Who collates these fees? Your roadworthiness, your vehicle license, your proof of ownership for your car, your payment for construction approval, your lasaa fee, your lasepa permits, your parking permit, the registered lastma fines, land use charge, drivers license for commercial drivers - you think the fees for all of these are collated by hand? In most other states supervisory agencies fees begin and end with the local govt. Or you have governors like fayose trying to shake down banks for community development. 2 Likes |

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 2:05pm On Mar 11, 2023 |
larride: It is actually the fees that can only be paid at LGAs that grind my gears. Because I am sure they are padding them or running scams. It is always pay cash, pay to my account. Money going into an LGA black hole. But we have grv, who actually proposes to take us all the way back to a system where everyone is paying everything to one local govt tout for a receipt that is not worth the paper it is printed on. If I do my vehicle licence at a bank, I instantly get an alert. If I do at LGA, all I get is a printout and a prayer. |

OkpaNsukkaisBae:Not defending Soludo but what is the metric used to determine he has failed? It looks to me that all the past and present Governors in Nigeria pretty much failed so I don't understand why you are singling him out? Look at Wike for example, I read on this thread that despite the numerous projects execution, he still had to directly recruit 10k people into the state civil service to come and do practically nothing. So you begin to question how the numerous flyovers, bridges and highways constructed have not translated to industrial growth to atleast battle unemployment. Majority of the roads and flyovers Governors build that make Nigerians to hail them as performers are not strategic infrastructure. Basically a PR necessity to shut up doubters/opponents and raise the Governor's ego. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

DontBullshitMe: What does infrastructure like Highways , flyovers and bridge construction have to do with unemployment/industrial growth . Educate me . |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by DontBullshitMe: 3:45pm On Mar 11, 2023 |
BlueRayDick:Highways, flyovers, railways etc should be strategic infrastructure designed to drive industrial growth. They are not the only factors needed but they are necessary. For a start, industrial 'estates' must have good roads for the movement and transport of raw materials and finished products. If the roads are good and dependable, company spends less on maintenance of trucks and trailers, fast delivery etc. Add these together and you get more profits, more taxes. When companies make bigger profits, they think of expansion and when you expand, employment becomes a necessity. I am not saying strategic road and rail infrastructure are the only thing needed for rapid industrialization but of course they are one of the necessary factor. You still need quality technological education, security, productive population etc 1 Like 1 Share |

BlueRayDick: Dangote is upgrading apapa oshodi expressway so his trucks will not be delayed. A working functional road along an industrial axis means more accurate project planning. I have been going on and on about the link bridge to orile. If that bridge is done, I can literally leave my home and be in vi in an hour. Maybe even 45 minutes. What does that do for productivity? Now multiply it I am personally very particular about getting VALUE from anything I buy. I once had an extra car that sat in the house and was only used once in a blue moon. Everytime I started it, I would find rats had been playing in the engine. Eventually I sold it. It was just depreciating without adding any value This is the problem of a lot of projects by governors. They are not an optimal use of resources. Fayose built a fancy flyover in Ekiti. What is the vehiclar traffic that merits the expense? Unless there is actually a strategic dubai type plan, you may find that the beautiful roads built in some states end up being used for racing and nothing more. 3 Likes 1 Share |

DontBullshitMe: You already argued against ur initial post . The fact that I pointed it out that there are several factors responsible for industrial growth says it all . Wike has done the roads , highways , flyovers etc . The numerous other factors u mentioned are not necessarily within his control . So u expecting industrial growth to happen simply cos Wike constructed highways , bridges , etc is u getting ur hopes too high . |

BlueRayDick: By allowing pH to become a cesspool of violence and by condemning the state to endemic lung disease, there is no way any infrastructural development will attract any new investments in the state. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 3:57pm On Mar 11, 2023 |
GloriousGbola: There’s a reason I asked him the question . I know all these things u are talking about , but he seem to be under the impression that once these things are in place , industrial growth would happen automatically . Dangote is already and established brand and Lagos state is already a state flourishing economically . I know a lot of companies that had to leave PH cos things weren’t really going well like it did in the late 90’s and early 2000’s . There are a lot of factors responsible for that . |

Not an expert at road construction but let me take a pop at your question. 1. Materials for road construction you will buy from multiple vendors that's money going to companies. 2. Road construction is labour intensive you need to hire many hands. Worker that was probably jobless now has change to take care of wife, kids, mother in the village and maybe mistress. 3. Workers will need to eat and drink something meaning mamaputs, eateries will spring up to cater to their needs. They'll probably also need medicare from work related hazards or injuries throw in doctors and nurses that will be needed to treat them. 4. For the industrial growth bit I produce goods in my little company getting it across town to my client is hell due to traffic, bad roads or lack of alternative route which leads to loss in man hours that ultimately affects the bottom line. Now an access road has been built that allows me to faster get my products to my customers this means I can take on more orders in a day, leading to bigger profits which means I can hire more people that will help reduce the unemployment market. All this few points I mentioned you can imagine how it would be if we had multiple projects running around the country. If your average northerner knows he can earn go money working in some major project scattered all over his state why would he leave his comfort zone to come to Lagos where his chances of making are not 100% sure? A place like Tinapa apart from providing work to the locals who were involved in its construction would have continued to provide job opportunities linked to tourism and entertainment but sadly the governments of the day both state and federal didn't leverage on it. For example if the Lagos State government hadn't leveraged on the opportunities that LFTZ offered the place would have become another white elephant project. BlueRayDick: |

GloriousGbola:frankly bro, I don't give a damn what goes on in America, I'm more concern about what goes in within the shores of this country. For me, I see many of the Obidient lot as a bunch bitter and jealous individuals. The embody what many of the Nigerian citizens are. Angry, bitter, jealous, weak, narrow minded and sore losers. This set if people hate anybody who is successful or who they deem a threat to their existence. It's the very reason why many of them have thrown reason and common sense out of the window. The moment things are going the they they want, they're happy and cool with it, the moment things aren't, they condemn it and shout foul play. We saw this with what happened with Mike Essien. This set of bitter people want to take away our god given free will. Like must I like what you like? Must I eat what you eat? Must I buy what you buy? Must I like who you like? They forget there is something call 'choice' and 'free will'. It really is a pity. |
