This Rufia na mumu. Is this the person some people are following? Shame!

Before the Portuguese and British came to the land, were people not living on the land before?

Just like saying Mungo park discovered river Niger. Before Mungo park came to river Niger, were people not living in that area before and using the river?

So it was the British that discovered and owned Lagos abi... They were the first settlers...

This is a stupid and senseless assertion from Rufai and those who believe the nonsense he has said

What do they know .

This is the first thing we studied in Land Law in 400L.

By the treaty of cession of 1863, Lagos become a colony of the crown, meaning that Lagos was part of the British empire, whatever obtained in Britain was obtainable in Lagos, it was part and parcel of Britain, while the rest of Nigeria was divided into southern and northern protectorates.

Ode! Lagos is a crown colony under British empire,it doesn't mean that British is the first people to settle there.,atleast the British meet some indigenous people in the same land when they got there. Those people that they meet there and subdued under their leadership are the original owner of the Land..which are mostly Awori tribes of Yoruba sub groups. That doesn't change the fact that Lagos that was boarded by Ogun state is a Yoruba Land from inception

Lagos Was Owned By The British For 99 Years - Rufai Oseni Shares Treaty Cession Document (Photo)

Arise TV News presenter and author, Rufai Oseni has added his voice to the recent tribal arguments amongst Lagosians over the 'ownership' of Lagos State, IGBERETV reports.

The argument got intense following the campaign of Labour Party's Lagos gubernatorial aspirant, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour whose mother is Igbo. Also, Labour Party's presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi who is from Anambra state won Lagos State in the just concluded presidential poll against former Lagos Governor Bola Tinubu.

In a tweet on Wednesday, March 15, Oseni said Lagos was a British colony until it was ceded to a Lagos Monarch

He went on to state that some of the developments in the state were made by the British. He also shared a photo showing the treaty cessation document between the then British government and Oba Dosunmu.

Oseni refused to acknowledge the positions that "Lagos is no man's land," or that "it is a Yoruba land".

He wrote;

So before 1861, Lagos had no history? How was Lagos conquered or taken over by the British in 1861. The research is incomplete and flawed. The same bad belle playing out. Who told this Oseni guy to drive on BRT lane. He was punished for his offence. Ever since, he has been antagonizing. It is all meaningless.

Lagos is a white mans land. Anyone that knows the history of Nigeria knows this. Whites literally planned it, built and and developed the city. The way tribalist Yorubas claim Lagos and insult Igbos specifically as if there beloved city wasn't built and designed by whites? And whites only ALLOWED Yorubas to take over when they were tired.. Only the Igbos fought and resisted colonialism and are paying the price today. Meanwhile Yorubas and Hausas continue to dine with and give all the resources of the country to whites in UK. Nigeria is a shythole currently and yet its still Igbos they are upset with, despite ruling the pathetic nation in to such a sorry state for the past 40 years. Its pathetic how Africans are so stupid and destroy themselves for the benefit of whites.

Lagos State is a Creation of the Nigerian military government.

By the way, there is nothing contentious in saying Lagos State is Yoruba land.

The whole of Nigeria once belonged to Royal Niger company as a private property. It doesn't mean there were no indigenous Hasuas in Kano or indigenous Igbos in Anambra at that time.

First it was Bini, now it's British; later it's going to be Biafra. This Rufai and his station need psychiatric examination. He's been looking for anything 'B' to own Lagos and anything to trend on twitter.

He doesn't even know the difference between Lagos State and Lagos colony, which is less than 10% of present Lagos state. In his efforts to keep downgrading Lagos indigenous people, he has been promoting fringe individuals that came to Lagos island: Prince Ado, the slave masters (Britons), and the returnees like Saros. He forgot Prince Ado met Already established kingdom of Awori-Yorubas. The colonizers also met Yoruba kings kosoko and Dosunmu and their people in Lagos Island.

All these historical lessons, assertions and rebuttal rants everywhere because of election. Abeg 18th should come and go. I have never seen a more divisive poll just because a ruling party is in peril of losing.

It's not even for Yorubas, originally, the indigenes are Aworis and Eguns. All other tribe just settled there because it was a federation capital.

So technically, we can just say Lagos has colonial origins. I remember learning this in Nigerian History class.
The sad thing is that a lot of people won't agree with this.
Lagos just happens to be in the South-west region of Nigeria, but its not the land of the Yoruba; its a border state. If you like call it Eko from now till tomorrow.

I have repeatedly reminded people that Lagos state was never the capital of Nigeria
What is referred to in that treaty is not Lagos state as we now know it
Lagos state was created in 1967 a.completely different thing from Lagos Colony

A lot of people also don't know that Nigeria was never a Colony of Britain but a Protectorate
