I'm in Canada but it seems our experiences are different. It seems you are battling with low paying jobs. I and people in my circle are doing high paying jobs. I have changed jobs 3 times in 4 years and each movement increased my pay considerably.
When I came to Canada newly, it was rough. I had to go back to school, pursue an in demand highly skilled career and after my first job, I acquired hard core experiences and boom! I became a hot cake. There is no week, I don't get contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn for a job. I just keep telling them I'm not available for now until I'm ready to make another move.
Please don't use your situation to discourage people. Not everyone will do 50k job. There are many factors that would contribute to how things will work for each person so don't use one brush to paint everyone.
The reality is that some people will come and struggle, they may never get their dream job. But some will come and blossom. The only advice I give intending japarians is do your research very well. Have short and long term plans and pursue your goals strategically. If I continued in the same career path I was doing in Nigeria probably I'll be one of those people on this forum discouraging people from making a move.
The summary is if you do your homework well, have a nice plan, with time all man go dey alright.

Hello, please can you tell us some 'in demand highly skilled careers' in Canada. Thanks

Please, who else observed that all the virtual Dollar cards are no longer functioning? I've tried downloading many to make a little online payment but none seems to be working! Can anyone here please recommend a good virtual dollar card that offers VISA or Mastercard options?

Who makes a video of visiting Food Bank, you guys are taking this shit too far and all wrong! Dammit. You made a video showing other peoples’ faces, you have invaded their privacy and you could be sued. Please have some sense, this just doesn’t make sense. With your settlement fund, you are not meant to go near a food bank.
What’s annoying me is that this food they took could have gone to people who really need it. There’s homeless people starving and then there’s greedy people who have enough but still want to take from the little that the poor people have. Like Nigerian politicians, like most Nigerian citizens. Anyways I’m here to tell everybody that with what has happened today and 3 weeks ago in the elections, I hope you all intensify your japa efforts. Your country is almost finished. Goodluck

With all due respect, Please keep your "shitty" opinion to politics section. Don't bring political shenanigans to this beautiful thread. We will intensify our japa efforts for various reasons, not because we think Nigeria is almost finished. Nigeria will be better and will be great. It's "our" country. If you don't agree it is your country, that's fine too. But don't bring your divisive narrative to this place. Let that nonsense stop in the politics section.
Peace!

Just landed Calgary, Canada... and one of the shocking things we experienced was getting free food and groceries. Hunger no fit catch you.
We just had to document the experience in a video. You can watch to know what to expect and share with others.

I really hope you'd heed the advice here and take down your video. This social media craze can cost you more than you bargained for.

Thé truth hurts but you will be alright my dear. I don’t remember me being divisive in my original comment. I spoke about Nigeria as a whole and not from a tribal/divisive/political-party perspective. So why are you being defensive? Or are you one of the tribal bigots in real life? Anyways I’m done with this topic. Don’t make this out to be what it’s not. Nor be only you dey rude. Let’s all respect ourselves. You are not important in the grand scheme of things and sadly won’t be getting a second response from me. You might as well sitdown with your entire family in the country since it’s suddenly so great to you and there’s lots of hope. Eye service gone wrong.

In as much as I wouldn't love to derail this thread with political banters, I will not keep silent on this one lest you think there was any iota of sagacity in the gibberish you posted above. In this travel thread, are people of various political affiliations, leanings and views.
You became divisive when you used "your country". Are you a Ghanaian? When I read "your country is almost finished", I knew we were dealing with a bigot who is disguised as a concerned individual. I repeat once again that our country will flourish and prosper. Because you have a PR, you think you can come and run your watery mouth on a non-partisan thread. Nigeria will remain your first country whether you like it or not. And anybody who wishes bad on our country will experience that evil first. Let me also remind you very clearly how irrelevant you also are in the grand scheme of things. Nobody knows you and no one cares about your shitty opinion/advise. Yes, there is a lot of hope and bright future for Nigeria, one you will never get to benefit from if you continue with this your obnoxious mentality. I hope you were able to "pack" your entire family along as you were going to Canada else the joke's on you. A lot of us don't plan to stay forever in Canada or anywhere else. For some of us, it's a very short-term plan. Nigeria is still the home we will return to. Be guided.
PS: I don't know your tribe and I don't care. I only addressed your uncouth statement. Next time, prophesy evil into your own life, don't generalize.

Thanks Prof. Well noted Sir and thanks for your unending contribution on the thread. I am not particularly happy with everything happening in the country but we cannot keep disparaging our country to the ground at every opportunity we have. I will gladly fly the Nigerian flag in Canada Sir.
Canada is not heaven. E just be say we no fit dey talk everything here. I am a senior public servant and I will not resign from my job because of Canada PR. Yet, I value the PR because of my children. So they can be global citizens not because I have lost hope in Nigeria. Canada is good because people made it so. Please guys, I’m interested in understanding why that youtube video is wrong. This is a genuine question, can some just help explain. Is it legally wrong or socially wrong? I watched some parts of the video and they said there was nothing illegal about it and they had registered online. I’m asking so I can be educated.

It seems like the workers in the video were not aware that they were being recorded. If that is the case, this exposes them (the YouTubers) to possible legal action, like a lawsuit, because it’s an invasion of their privacy to not just make a video of them, but also upload it on YouTube without their consent. I, for one, will not like to be recorded at work or anywhere without my knowledge or consent. That’s my own observation

Ok thanks. I understand the recording without consent part. (even though in most countries, you don’t need permission to record or photograph people in public places, not sure what the law is in Canadian)

I’m really more interested in the food bank visit. Why is it wrong to use the food bank as newcomers to Canada?

As you mentioned “public place” that was no public place. And even places where you have CCTVs it is always been mentioned that there is a camera watching you.

To bring a perspective to it, it was “morally wrong”. The New comer in that video is not the class of people food bank is meant for. If you have a Car and can legally drive, you have no business with a food bank. When relocating you are meant to have some settlement funds, let’s assume this wasn’t existent, it means you already lied about your finances and there could be a legal side to it if properly investigated.
Also, the recording was secretly carried out, none of the people in the video knew they were being recorded. It could be interpreted in various ways, legally or morally but you can be sure who would be at a disadvantage.

The problem with many of us have always been that the moment we see an opportunity to denigrate our fatherland to justify our immigration plans, we jump on it. You will even join nationals of other countries to disparage your own country.
Indians, Chinese and nationals of other countries have been migrating decades ago but you will never see them speaking ill of their countries. People migrate from UK, USA, Germany, Japan etc. Does this also mean these countries are not working? Not everyone migrates for economic reasons and that is my point.
But some of you who have managed to migrate will now settle down and never see or say anything good about your country. Foreigners are coming in and seeing opportunities but all these dual citizens wannabe will only see doom. Tufiakwa!

Many of us will go outside and tell all manner of lies and evil against our country because they are seeking asylum. Claiming wars where there is none. Claiming victimisation where there is none just for selfish gains.

For the umpteenth time, I say it boldly that Nigeria will and must be great and anyone who speaks evil against Nigeria will never see good all the days of their lives. Amen!

But this your short-term immigration plan get as e be. Stay and fix the country nao. Someone who had a voter's card and wasn't allowed to cast ballot is now the person denigrating Nigeria. Even a Ghanaian is way better off. Let Nigeria be like Japan, Uk and America first and we deal with the exodus of folks second. Many Nigerians are japaing because of the conditions of Nigeria, could be economic, political etc.

Don't mind them. Even other Africans don't understand why we are everywhere. Good countries discourage legal migration even. Someone is coming hard on you and others for airing your views on a thread that is established because of the dangerous politics and backwardness of the goddamn fatherland. I'm glad you finally had the boldness to quote me directly. At least, we can have a direct conversation. The bolded is my ultimate plan and indeed the plan of a lot of well-meaning Nigerians. Currently, I am contributing my quota to nation-building and national development and I will continue to. Pursuing a dual citizenship should never be a reason to abandon one's fatherland and say unprintable things about her at any given opportunity. Maybe a Ghanaian is better than you, that's understandable. But from where I stand currently, no human whether of African descent or of any other nationality is better than me. I say that with all dignity, authority and sincerity of purpose. You have relegated yourself to be an inferior human and it's your prerogative. I can only cheer you on.
Yes, we saw irregularities in the elections. Intimidation in all parts of the country, underage voting in every part of the country, electoral malpractice by ALL the major parties in the election etc. But is there a perfect election anywhere in the world? Even USA cannot boast of a perfect election.
Gradually, I am elated that you guys have stopped speaking in parables and are coming out from your shells to air your grievances. But saying Nigeria will never be good? Prophesy such for your family and community please.

I am never afraid of anyone. Your foul language is making people not to deal with you. There is no fatherland in the real sense of it. USA has other things going on for her citizens, in Nigeria nothing nothing and you wanna fly her flag here. The only flag I see is Ukrainian on cars. How is that helping folks Russia is decimating? Whoever asked you to be afraid?
Let me guess? The education you acquired that helped you gain points for your EE was in Nigeria, yeah? Was it recognised by WES? Are you aware many universities in Togo are not recognized globally? Let me guess again? The work experience you gained that added points to your EE was acquired in Ghana abi? A state in Nigeria is the 4th Largest economy in the whole of Africa. Believe what you wanna believe. People are relocating back home from abroad to take advantage of the numerous opportunities. Because you japa-ed and small cold is blowing your head doesn't mean the place you left behind is a dungeon. People are living well and doing great in Nigeria. Not everybody is ecstatic about relocating abroad. Know this and know peace. There are people in war-ravaged countries like Somalia, Sudan and Libya that seek the same opportunities you had but cannot. However, from your prism, Nigeria is the worst country in Africa. grin We may not be where we want to be yet but we are not where we used to be.
Yeah, USA has other things working like the consistent mass shootings, the systemic racism, etc. Infact, there is no corruption in USA., there is no thuggery, no poverty.
I would have educated you on the current constitution amendments and how it will further strengthen infrastructural development in the country by removing certain provisions from the exclusive list but I know you are already determined never to see anything good in the country. That's also fine. What is not fine are your vile prophecies. Like I cautioned earlier, learn to say "Me, aestake and my people". Don't use your hatred for your country of birth to make uncouth statements for the entire population.

Lame sarcasm. But let's not derail the thread further my dear. Like I told our friend earlier, I hope your entire family and indeed village people accompanied you to Canada? If yes, then you can remain there forever. I wish all of you the very best. But if you intend to return home someday and keep saying these negative things about us, may what you are prophesying not consume you upon your return to your "goddamned" fatherland.
