Labour Party Is Not As Popular As It Thinks It Is. by Nobody: 5:56pm On Mar 23, 2023
I am going to preface this new post by commenting that in football, it isn't about the number of goals scored, it is about whether you score more goals than the opposing team.

Like in1989, at Damman, Saudi Arabia, the Flying Eagles and the former USSR played a 4-4 draw. Yet all that we recall is that the Flying Eagles won on penalites. Yes, USSR gave a good fight and scored a lot of goals, but we scored more goals than they did.

The election cycle is almost over and the results are not good for the Labour Party.

In the Presidental election, they came third. Yes, they did well, but they still came third.

It's the governorship that really bothers me.

In the Presidential: LP won...Edo, Delta, CROSS river, Enugu, Abia, Imo,Anambra, and Plateau, and Nassarawa and Lagos.

Yet in the governorship...LP managed to win Abia (that was expected anyway), but lost all the other states (Edo was not in play. Lagos, I'll give them the excuse that APC used tribalist dirty tricks to win that...because Lagos was and is an LP state).

National Assembly performances are nothing to write home about. LP isn't even the second largest party in the NA, and in places like Cross River, LP lost the NA elections there.

And the list goes on.

I am going to be honest....LP has failed badly....and that leads me to this fact....it is interesting that the court case is predicated on making Tinubu seem illegitimate (for the record, I think he is, and I think he should be barred...but the problem is, removing Tinubu opens the door for Atiku)...and this shows one thing...that APC really won the election, and that LP is not as good as they think they are.

Why am I saying this.

Because the problem with the Nigerian opposition, in my opinion, is that it takes refuge in the rigging argument too much. If the election was really rigged nationwide, why aren't there national protests all over the country? Why aren't Lagos, Ibadan, Kano, Kaduna, etc on fire with LP supporters crying out all over the land?

Before you abuse me, my job is not to defend Tinubu, Buhari or APC. I strongly believe that if anything irregular is found by the courts...and if it means rerunning the election, then SO BE IT. We have to , for our sake have a better electoral process in this country.

But in any new election, LP is still going to lose.

At the end, we need to, as an opposition, get together, form a strong alliance the same way the Kenyans did with the NARC in 2001, and get rid of APC in 2027. This election shows how weak, divided, and powerless the opposition is, and how they failed Nigerians. APC lost this election, people, but they won because the opposition vote was divided. And because the opposition was divided, we have 4 more years of APC.

It is time we stopped crying over spilt milk, and formed a pan Nigerian opposition to confront the evil of APC. 2027 awaits. Let us dry our tears, and get to work, and not put too much hope in the court case going our way. APC can still win.

Lagos is not an LP party. You don't know Lagos.

Rest.

Not popular yet you had enough time to write a long epistle on LP.

It is now Ipob movement. The same reason they failed every where at the gubernatorial. Even the sane ibos are tired of them.

You are wrong; let me correct you. You mistake Labor party for Obidient movement. Obidient movement shoot labor party to the limelight because of Peter Obi. Even if the figure Labor recorded in the presidential election is the authentic result, that's a wonderful outing. Don't forget, they have no regular Nigeria political structure. Now coming to the Guber election, most Obidient went for candidate and not party. Let me give you a personal experience, we are six in our family. We voted Obi for presidential but went our different ways in Guber; splitting our votes between PDP & APGA. I'm talking about Enugu. At this point, it was all about candidate and not party. Watch out, next election, labor party will do better.

Leave them....how can they support APC and their brains are still correct?

The big problem with your strategy is that assuming Obi won, PDP, APC and company will gang up on him

You cannot vote LP in one election and then support APC in another.

The fact is, Obi if he wants to rule Nigeria needs a majority of LP members, and a majority of LP governors...for structure's sake.

Buhari tried the same thing in 2011...and lost.

IPOB movement does not win the presidential elections in states like Plateau, Nassarawa, and even come a close second in Benue.

Yeah, because you guys used the language of IPOB to win votes.

APC has not done good enough in Lagos. Lagos is supposed to be better than that.

See how small Obi haters think. You think Obidient movement is about IPOB. My family and I are from the north but seriously Obidient.

Indeed, but to be honest, if Obi has to win in 2027, it is time to reach out to other like minds. Even if it means merging.

At the end of the day, united opposition wins elections.

But we can't continue doing the same thing over and over again and expect different result. Peter Obi ruled Anambra state with PDP dominated house of Assembly. Believe me, he can replicate it at the national stage.

The same PDP house of assembly that was giving him trobule from time to time, and even managed to impeach him?

National politics is also different from state politics. APC dominates the new National Assembly. Ya think those geng will cooperate with Obi?

Things are changing bro. Once a president or governor excercises his executive privilege transparently, the legislators will fall in line.
