AgentXxx: What's your specialty? What did you study in the MSc? There are many legal roles (privacy and IT GRC generally, corporate governance, AML/CFT, etc.) you can apply for that would benefit from a legal background but don't require being called in the UK. Just search 'paralegal', 'legal' on LinkedIN in combination with your specialty, and you should see a plethora of open jobs. 1 Like 1 Share |

AgentXxx: Practicing as a solicitor would require doing the SQE, yes, but the person should think carefully about that because law firm places are very limited and the likelihood of getting a training contract or straight associate role is very limited unless one has a Tier 1 commercial practice experience from back home. For most people it's more practical to target jobs that benefit from a legal background without requiring legal qualification. See my preceding post. After doing those roles for a while it'll be clear whether qualification via the SQE is necessary or worth it, and more crucially, the money will be there to fund it. |

koonbey: hustla:GRC, AML/KYC/CFT, Privacy π are loosely under compliance or risk (when compliance is not standalone). These are lucrative areas worth exploring. Legal background (especially the reasoning and asserting capability aspect of law) would stand you out. Question remains, what catches your interest. Pls pay attention to @Koonbey (probing) posers. They'll assist in 'guiding' appropriately. Yes, this is a faceless forum. semmyk:Now that the 'vague' are (being) addressed and your matter back on the roll AgentXxx:The GRC, AML/KYC/CFT, Privacy certs are not statutorily like SQE2. They do have some structures though. They also come with cost, at scaling rate. AML is notorious of 'em lot: you get CAM exams at Β£1k and Β£3k. For Privacy, consider those certs around DPA and GDPR For instance, but not limited to - BCS Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection - IAPP'S CIPP/E - ISACA's CDPSE - Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection - DPO ('GDPR UK ') Inbtw, one 9f the things that aroused my interest in 'law' (among others) was my involvement in GRC some years back. -_____________________________________ For discuss on GRC, AML/KYC/CFT, see pages 802, 803 Goke7: hustla: Goke7: Goke7: hustla: koonbey: Ayowolebami:And from the old thread TheGuyFromHR: 3 Likes |

I'm seeking some clarification, please. My friend travelled to get married in Nigeria recently. The wife's passport was renewed a few weeks before the wedding with her maiden name but she has since made a newspaper publication for the change of name to the husband's last name. Now, she wants to start the visa processing but they are wondering if she can use the husband's last name for the visa application and other things like tuberculosis test, police report, etc. Her passport has her maiden name but she wants to do the tuberculosis test and visa application using her husband's last name. Can she go ahead to do that using the marriage certificate and newspaper publication as backup? Thanks. |

Lexusgs430: Sir I don't know o, nearing 10 years madam still bears her maiden name. I tell her does it make you any less married if you don't change your name. Only thing is if she is travelling alone especially to Nigeria with the kids, she takes a copy of marriage certificate and birth certificate an signed letter from me in case there is an over-zealous official at the POE or departure. |
