if subsidies of whatever kind, be it energy or currency cannot be removed within a month of the new government it will never be removed in the life of the coming administration. For if popular governments could not do it how much more an unpopular one that hits the ground by May ending. And having left the economy and citizens in financial peril across board through reckless spending, unsustainable external borrowings that have all but maxed out, investments that are not forthcoming and a mismanaged oil industry which remains unstable and unreliable at best, there is just no public appetite whatsoever for more suffering, no more sacrifices to offer. So I just cannot see any way out for the ruling APC. The Buhari government has indeed handed over a poisoned chalice to his successor. And this is why democracy implores that when a government does badly it is changed, voted out, so that hope is renewed and with new people in place offerings of sacrifices can be made by the citizens. In a nutshell the hardest decisions where politics meets governance are only made by fresh governments. The NLC is firing the first shots of a long and torrid time to come. Never in the history of this country are the people ready to 'fight' before a government is even sworn in. To me it is a sign of maturing amongst the populace. That unlike in the past they are not prepared to accept hot air and propaganda as appetizer while waiting for the meal of good governance this time. They indeed do not see this new government as 'coming to the rescue'. They rather want to see action from the get go. The scenario is clear. If subsidies are removed and inflation gallops sending even more into crushing poverty they will not be satisfied with phantom 5,000 naira stipends this time around or so called infrastructure that only enriches contractor friends and family or salary increases for public servants who constitute a micro fraction of the populace, but they will angle for the real deal which is real economic growth which hinges on industrialization and job creation across board. This is the only way out and they have their work cut out. Mr. Buhari has left the country in a total mess. No one to blame this time around but ourselves. |

What about the refineries the promised to fix? How about implementing full deregulation of the petroleum sector? Why is NNPC trying to impose itself as the sole importer of fuel? When did the forest called Nasarrawa suddenly start producing oil, Lies from the out of hell. |

The subsidy shouldn't be removed under any condition until the dangote refinery is up and running and at least 2 more refineries are constructed and able to take on the task of supplying fuel to the entire country, Then all previous oil marketers should have their import permits revoked. If this isn't done, then most of the jobless youths here will be the first to start screaming life hard. You say increase minimum wage, the best they would do is add 10k each to workers salaries and add 10m each to politicians and lawmakers income and expect you to clap for them. What then happens to those in the private sector? They're people still earning 25k in Nigeria If you remove fuel subsidy now without having our local refineries working already, then the thieves (oil marketers) will simply continue importing and hike the price to 750-900 per litre to make up for the loss of the subsidy they have been getting fat with. The only solution is to completely ban the import of oil products and refine our oil products locally. If done correctly, fuel prices can even go below 100# per litre. We're blessed with crude oil unlike other countries who import theirs. A car tank is usually between 40-65ltr, so imagine spending 50k just to fill tank |

muykem: Is that your solution.... Is that what the APC has to offer..... I laugh. Minimum wage for who.... in a populace with an unemployment rate of 40 percent, and where government employs only 5 percent of those engaged meaning that any salary increases it makes has no impact whatsoever on the wellbeing of citizens. You better wake up to the fact that if 1 out of ten citizens is covered by government the rest 9 will dilute whatever he has. Inflation is a killer and economies round the world battle hard to keep it contained and prevent vicious cycles from starting. The only way out is productivity, the ability to create or generate value and not just doling out money to whoever. Your refineries must be working to produce products. Your power plants must be generating electricity. Your factories must be producing goods particularly for export. Can the APC deliver these in a few short months before the removal of subsidies......? 1 Like |

Nigerians have not bothered to ask their government why the refineries we have in Nigeria are not working and have refused to work despite the billions they have pumped into it for turn around maintenance. Who's benefit is it that the refineries have remained moribund for ages now? We are like a nation where we have an abundance of flour for making bread yet we export the flour but import bread in return. Is that not foolishness? Hugo Chavez the former Venezuelan president built many refineries when he was in power and fuel was dirt cheap to the point he was even helping many Latin American countries with fuel supplies. This is what made him an enemy to the western hegemons. But here despite the billions of dollars we generate from crude oil sales we have no refineries to refine them. This is the reason they cannot have someone like Obi as president cos he will surely look into the heist going on the that cesspit of corruption called NNPC. 1 Like |

Ireportlive: My friend keep quiet. What makes you think they won't loot the money as usual? The brainless and useless man in Aso rock who increased the price of fuel from #97 to #145 and now to #169 what did he achieve with the increments? Is any of the refinery working? Was he able to build a new one? You think the President-select is not part of the subsidy syndicate? Why has the price of diesel and kerosene been skyrocketing? What did they do with money they realised from from the subsidy removal. Cooking gas was very cheap and immediately people moved from kerosene to cooking gas the price skyrocketed. Oga be ready to buy fuel for #800 to #1000 For your information Dangote said he will sale fuel to Nigerians at the rate of international price. 2 Likes |

buharitill2023: Is this not the NLC-old wines in a new bottle- that is queuing behind Labour Party - who believes that Nigeria should suffer under Cashless Naira Policy of the CBN? Is this not NLC that told us they wanted strikes and after inner room meetings with same CBN nothing is heard again - inspite of the fact that the so called New Naira Notes is Scarce today and we are now back to the same Old Naira Notes they( CBN) earlier collected and made Nigerians to suffer both in economic terms and political misadventures, but why? The same NLC- that could not fight the Corporate Companies ( local and international) for Nigerians ,that their Gratuities and Pensions are upon, while those who went to Courts have been there over Decades- some 5-yrs and some over 10- yrs and above! Let's ask the NLC- so would the Pensions still meet the Workers needs, after the inflation bites? NLC,- should go and ask for forgiveness on their jobs as they have failed many Nigerians and some are even dead ! So terrible a Union! 1 Like |

Labour, you will find it hard, if not impossible, to deal with a government of fraudsters and con men. Every department and institution of Nigeria's government shall be filled up with CON MEN, if Nigeria's number one con man, Tinubu, is allowed to be sworn in as president of Nigeria. First of all, don't allow the number one con man of Nigeria to get sworn in as president of Nigeria.
