BigIyanga: They offer MSc Nursing in some schools in there USA. I found out during my research when I was looking for schools to apply for admission. But one might have to take some additional courses or an exam. 1 Like |

Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Ebisign: 1:22pm On Apr 05, 2023 |
BigIyanga: WES is unnecessary if your school does not require it. Just like not all schools in the USA make it mandatory to take the English proficiency exams, they also have schools that do not require WES evaluation. I think those are schools the we coming from Nigeria should apply to. Considering all the fees we have to pay and all the restrictions on international transactions, I just think we should check these requirements before applying to any school. Just my opinion. 2 Likes |

Hello everyone. Please I need your advice. I got an Msc admission (full funding with GA offer) for fall 2023. Based on the issuance of the GA, here are stringent conditions given: - They will hold a teaching Graduate Assistantship for me from July 1, 2023. -At this time, they ask that I demonstrate that I have obtained a Visa so that they know if I will be able to study and work during the Fall 2023 semester. -If I am are unable to obtain a Visa by this date, they reserve the right to withdrawal the teaching Graduate Assistantship offer to ensure that they have an instructor in place to teach their classes -If I am able to obtain a Visa, I will also need to obtain a social security number, which can only be done when I'm in the United States I can set up a meeting at a social security office no more than 30 days before the start of my work appointment. -Given this timeline, to give myself the best chance of being able to start work at the beginning of the fall 2023 semester, I should be in the United States and have an appointment with the social security office July 14 or 17, 2023 as School resumes 4th August. Please guys, I need your honest advice. I know that visa appointment in June will be tedious and difficult; to give myself more time for preparation, is it advisable to defer to spring or summer 2024 and still retain the GA offer. Your advice and suggestions will highly be appreciated. N:B I have an old I20 but will still have to wait for the updated I20. |

My advise is if evaluating your results will make your application competitive, why not put in the hard work. Somz schools may tell you you don't need English proficiency test but if you include in your application, they will still consider it Ebisign: |

Since your have the offer now, why not start with the date search. You can get a favorable date. Yesterday, Lagos released a lot of dates. Don't defer to spring yet when you still have a lot of time. And also, is the GA included in your new i20 stainless91: |

kechy20: I saw you tried to reach on this. How come you're on OPT and want to renew F1? F1 can only be renewed if your I-20 is still valid as a student. |

#copied April 5th, Lagos Status: Approved Due to the fear of lagos traffic, I slept over at officer mess on Tuesday. So that I can comfortably trek to the embassy on my interview day. On the D day, I got to the embassy 6 am (my interview is by 7 am), however, I was interviewed by 7:45am The VO is a slightly chubby lady with a cute face on glasses, the bald man was absent as at the time I left. I was the fourth person she interviewed. She approve the first (a f2 guy with his kid daughter) but the second guy (f1) was not given visa, I didn't hear what he was saying but I noticed he kept pass documents to vo even though she protested that she does not need them, the third guy (f1) was also not given visa, he was obviously not articulating his words well Me: Hello, how is your day going (with a smile) VO : Very good, Good morning (also with a smile) Me: Good morning VO: pass me your passport and i20 Me: here you go VO: What are you currently doing Me: I am currently working as research assistant at the department of * engineering, University of *, which I have being doing for close to 2 years, my roles and responsibilities are blah blah VO: So, you are a assistant researcher at the department of *** engineering... Me: No, I am a research assistant at the department of * engineering of the university of * VO : Alright that's good. After which she start typing then she decided to take a look at my I 20 and then she said good, now staring at me, she asked VO: Please can you tell me how you got this funding Me: Okay, I submitted a compelling application involving my standardised test results, CV, transcript, personal statement, and references from the professors I have worked under. After which, I was invited for an interview among other applicants by the admission committee of the department and I believe I was given the funding due to my performance at the interview, my experiences as a research and teaching assistant and also my academic knowledge in fluid dynamics. VO: Good, so what is fluid dynamics? I told her what it is (VO nods and starts typing) VO: Are you married? Me: I am single but currently engaged (with a smile while still staring at her) VO: wow, do you have any kids? Me: (acting surprise with the question) No, I don't have VO: Have you travel out of Nigeria before? Me: No, I have not VO: will you be excited to travel to America Me: yes, I will VO starts typing….. VO: I will be approving your visa (smiling while passing me the white paper) Me: oh, great. Thank you. I really tired to listen to what she was saying after this but I was just hearing but not listening, all I know is that she was pointing at my start date on my i20 and mentioning 30 days, email, and point of entry I collected the white paper and my I 20 Me : do have a nice day Vo: sure, thank you. This is the Lord's doing and it's marvellous in my sight. I know what it took to get this funding and the patience of my PI (another story on its own) 11 Likes 1 Share |

Harbiorla: If VO brings up home ties, it’s going to be hard defending yourself cos 75% of your fund is borrowed and domiciled in the US. If it does not come up, then you’re good. Good luck. |

BigIyanga: No. There is masters of science in nursing (MSN) that prepares you for non clinical nursing fields like nurse educators, nurse leaders, advanced practice registered nurse etc. There's also a doctorate in nursing. |
