Bill To Regulate Nigerian Medics From Going Abroad Passes Second Reading

In a bid to halt the increasing numbers of medical doctors leaving Nigeria for greener pastures, a Bill sponsored by Rep Ganiyu Abiodun Johnson to prevent Nigerian-trained medical or dental practitioners from being granted full licences until they have worked for a minimum of five years in the country, has passed second reading stage in the House of Representatives.

The Bill is titled, “A Bill for an Act to amend the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act, Cap M379, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to mandate any Nigerian-trained medical and dental practitioner to practice in Nigeria for a minimum of five years before being granted a full license by the Council in order to make quality health services available to Nigeria; and for related matters (HB.2130)”.

Rep Uzoma Nkem-Abonta, however, opposed the Bill on the ground that it was more like enslavement while the sponsor of the Bill told the House that it was only fair for medical practitioners who enjoyed taxpayer subsidies on their training to give back to the society by working for a minimum number of years in Nigeria before exporting their skills abroad.

Majority voice votes passed the Bill for second reading during plenary presided over by the speaker, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila.

Ogbeni, look inward, something is certainly wrong from within.

People that spend 24 hours of each day insulting everybody and everything, do you know the appropriate name and description for them?

You have been insulting everyone since 2015 and there are chances this trend will continue for another 8 years, don't you think there is need for self appraisal?

At last. It came late since I wrote to recommend that this law be passed for years now but it is still better late than never. Cuba has it and it worked for govt-trained doctors.

Their unregulated exit here in our country has almost crashed the system yet they go overseas to be enslaved.

Nigeria lose, they lose, their parents lose, the taxpayers whose tax was used to train them lose.It is not sustainable at all.
The law should be accelerated!

To be honest, the FG subsidizes training of medical doctors in federal universities and teaching hospitals .

The cost of procuring a medical degree and licence abroad especially in the US and UK is far higher than it is here .

It can be argued that Nigerian govt trains medical practitioners for the west.

This situation isn't even good for western medical practitioners as the average pay of medical practitioners has drastically fallen from a minimum of a $1mill per annum to hovering to about $400k for doctors .

It doesn't serve the west nor Nigeria in the long run but rather Jewish owned hospitals .

To elaborate further on why the Jew wants African doctors to replace western trained doctors

The plan by Jewish corporations who own all the hospitals in the US is to import cheap and easily manipulated 3rd world medical professionals whose immigration status is tied to their job.

These third world medical professionals cost less, and are easily bullied to go against medical ethics towards pushing Jewish pharmaceutical interests like we saw during covid were most of the doctors sanctioned were not from the pool of third world countries but from the west .Any third world doctor that dared to go against their protocol will be sacked and deported asap if not arraigned in a court on medical felony charges and risk serious jail time.
Most white and western professionals have gone into private practice during covid for refusal to abide by Jew Pharma dictates. Some even got the FDA on their ass for prescribing Iverctimin to treat covid and had to go to court to protect their license and practice.

We also read here sometime ago on Nigerian medical professionals protesting the disparity in pay between them and their western counterparts in the UK.

The Jew has so much polluted medical science and reduced the position of a medical doctor to a drug dealer for their pharmaceutical companies.

A Nigerian doctor escaping poverty in Nigeria will have no qualms obeying his Jewish masters even if goes contrary to his own professional and moral etiquette since his employment is tied to his immigration status .

I would never want to have to sacrifice both my conscience and professional opinion to ensure some kike gets more money at the expense of my patients . That's terrible to conceive but sadly that's the harsh reality most Nigerian and third world doctors are facing in the west.

This is why the immigration policy lobbied by the Jew pharma in the west is being guided to have third world doctors replace white and western educated doctors.

Already doctors in the west are seeing a massive decline in their take home owing to a flooding of cheap third world doctors who will not question the Jew and accept whatever he throws at them.

It pays no one to see our doctors go. We lose our best and most highly trained and sought after professionals and the west suffers more from these same professionals being constrained by Jew pharma .

A good govt should look at not only improving pay for doctors but also the state of the hospitals .

Also an emphasis on medical morals should be pushed so our brand of doctors will no longer sacrifice their profession and conscience for money.

Do you know why the face is happy?

Because Nigerians actually escaped a bigot fighting a religious war.

It's dead on arrival, because it's only Nigerian medical license the bill can stop, it can't stop a medical doctor who has graduated from applying for a medical license in other countries after passing their medical exams, the only way we can stop the brain drain is to improve the economy and its win win for everyone, if you don't grant them license and they have means to japa, they will and the develop Nation will grant them license to practice QED.

You obviously do not know how this kind of professional courses work wink This is not Azure or those I.T training licenses o.

You do not have license from the regulators of the medical school you attended and it is now those who do not know you from Adam or your school that will now dash you license? To do what, kill their own citizens?

Do you even realise that to even get their own license is regulated by their own laws which completely forbids what you are imagining. Or you think they will change their own laws because of you?. O ga o.

Looks like they going to checkmate the doctors. Now that they can't leave its time to deal with their demands for better pay. They're going to get the most vicious reactions now that most of them can't run away.

what exactly is their own laws? Is the bill stating that no one will be awarded his doctorate on completion of his or her studies in university? Are you aware that we have foreign students in Nigeria who study medical science and on completion of their various programs do not care about being licensed by MDCN, same will apply to a Nigerian graduate in medical science, no school i repeat no school gives anyone medical license in Nigeria stop saying what you don't know online, because internet never forget, it's the MDCN that gives medical license.Foreign medical graduates must sit for and pass the MDCN Assessment Examination to be eligible to practice in Nigeria same apply to Nigerian graduates applying to practice in other countries it's not automatic, now questions is how is the law going to stop the schools from awarding the students who have completed all requirements their various honors and certifying them? Unless we want to be the 1st in the world.

Waste of time. A Nigeria licence doesn't give u right to work as a doctor abroad. U must obtain the licence of the country u need to work. U must sit and pass their exams.

You do not still get it. If you ask nicely, I will enlighten you.

When you finish from an accredited school here in Nigeria, you are given a certificate of oath at induction by the Registrar of your regulatory body . This with clearance from your school ,you will take to secure compulsory one year training at approved facilities and on completion, you are evaluated by your regulatory body before you recieve a temporary licence you can now take to your professional body and complete all other registrations, pay dues etc before you recieve full license.

If you recieve oath certificate alone , you are just a medical graduate and not yet a professional so you are still not licensed. I have not seen countries taking medical graduates clearance of foreigners who did not stidy in their countries in lieu of a practice license from the foreigners home country to enable you take their own registration exams. A Nigerian who is a medical graduate of recognised overseas universities will still go through exams even before getting to do the one-year training. If you fail that you are done for o. It is not automatic o.

The way the law will work is to delay the process from when oath taking takes place to when you recieve full permanent license and make defaulters who flout the 5-year moratorium liable to conviction if they leave before 5 years. You do not want a criminal record as a professional or would you?
This is why you need to understand issues.

You are wrong my friend. First of all, they can still travel abroad even without full license. In fact the UK like to catch them young in the early stages of their career so that they can be fully trained in specialist positions. And provisional license is enough for them to be registered in UK.
Secondly, the Reps are hypocrites. They are putting the cart before the horse. They should have made it compulsory for everyone to get treated at home, that includes all politicians. Any specialist treatment not available in Nigeria must be advised by senior physicians, at least two of them before being granted visa for medical treatment. All health facilities must be improved and salaries of workers increased. These are things that require doing first.

Please show proof.

You are wrong if you really think it is that easy to go with oath certificate to overseas and immediately taken wink I am not referring to temporary license.

The reps are in order for as long as you are educated with tax payers money. Collecting license after being trained with tax payers money and leaving for overseas is not sustainable. I am not about the whataboutism, I am looking at the fact of the system. It is a very expensive training that will eventually crash if they do not have this law that regulates where and how these resources are shipped overseas as wastages of tax payers resources. It is good for them too as it reduces the supply for those enslaving them overseas so the value on them increases .

Absolute madness!

Kindly note that some kids have not in anyway benefited from tax payers resources from birth till now. Not a dime. How will the child's movement now be restricted?

Shut please and stop spitting rubbish here. You think Nigeria is Cuba. Nigeria is a democratic country while cuba is communist country. Only foola like APC and their illiterate slaves will make reference to cuba in this case. Why not make reference to Canada, USA or Uk where doctors migrate willingly. You can only stop subsidizing the medical training you cant control how people migrate. The moment that bill is passed we will paralyze the whole hospitals in this country. Its the poor and average like you that will suffer it.
You didnt talk about improving the healthcare system and welfare of health workers to make it more attractive. You are obviously jealous and demented APC slave.
If that bill is passed many Nigerians will die either directly or indirectly through the hospitals.
