Here is the summary of what we're doing here for sake of those just joining the group.

1. Majority of us here are aspiring to get a UK credential called QTS. This credential even though doesn't grant automatic teaching job in the UK, it does increase one's chances to secure one.

2. Except in rare occasions, it is very difficult to see a government approved school in the UK that will grant international applicant a job offer without requirement for QTS. QTS means qualified Teachers Status. This is not to say people don't teach in the UK without the credential but it's almost impossible for an international applicant to secure a teaching job in the UK without it. Even some schools will go to the extent of requesting an SOC together with the QTS.

3. It averagely takes 4 months to get the QTS credential after application and assessment. Afterwards, you start searching for teaching job openings. When successful with a job offer, the employer will then apply for a COS from the UK government on your behalf. It is with this COS that you'll then begin your skilled worker VISA application.

4. Know that no approved school will employ an international applicant from the backdoor in the UK. The employment process is usually strictly monitored and regulated by the government through the DfE. Approved schools with job openings are often required to show evidence of advertised job opening on job boards for a minimum of 21days in order to issue them COS for their applicant. It therefore means that a school must most definitely advertise their vacancies before they can employ you. It is said to be a part of the government requirements for schools with the job opening in order for them to apply for a COS on behalf of applicant.

5. Application for the UK QTS credential begins with visiting the TRA website and filling the application form. You need to primarily be a degree holder to be eligible. You'll equally need to have the transcript of such degree which is most preferable in education. You'll need your TRCN certificate and a PGDE certificate (with transcript) if your degree is outside the faculty of education.

6. Before now (I mean 1st February 2023), Nigerians and a whole lot of third world countries to not have the privilege to apply for the QTS. But from this date, a few lucky countries (including Nigeria) are now eligible to apply (but with a ton of strict requirements). For instance, not all subjects specialisms can apply at this time. Maths, physics, chemistry, biology and science are the few selected subjects specialisms that are being attended by the TRA. Correspondence states that other subjects specialisms will be added in batches - with May 2023 as another likely time to introduce more subjects areas.

7. To confirm if an applicant is fit to take any subject they put in for while applying for the Qualified Teacher Status, the TRA through their team of assessors will scrutinise applicant transcripts to see that they meet up the 50% threshold of the course offered that tallies with the subject they put in for. If you want to teach mathematics for instance, you must have offered 50% of maths courses verifiable in your transcript. Otherwise, your application will be unapologetically declined.

8. After submitting your application on the TRA website, a reference number for your application will be generated for you. This number will be your identity for all matters associating with your application with the TRA and TRCN. In whatever mail you send to the TRA, you're expected to embed your reference number for easy support from the TRA help desk. In all of your QTS application processes, the agency will be the one to message you as it deem fit. You're not expected to mail them your credentials except for enquiries or support purposes.

9. Your application for the UK QTS will not be processed until they receive a letter of professional standing from the TRCN. This means that after you must have submitted your application for QTS, and a reference number generated for your application, you're then to apply for the LoPs from TRCN. The application for the LoPs is the last phase of your QTS application process before TRA assessor will work on your application. It typically takes a month before TRCN forward your letter to TRA's email...and then your 80 working days to earn the QTS begins to count from the moment TRA receives your LoPs.

10. The most interesting part of this QTS journey is the job hunting phase. You'll need a well tailored CV with Coverletter/SOP to beat your competitors for a limited job offer via some authentic UK Job boards.

Go to Apply for QTS.

NOTE:

*DIFFERENCES BETWEEN IELTS & ECCTIS*

IELTS expires after 2yrs
ECCTIS don't expire

1️⃣ IELTS confirms your English Proficiency based on your performance after writing an exam

2️⃣ ECCTIS confirms your English Proficiency after assessing Your education history through your Credentials

3️⃣ You use IELTS if it is specifically requested by an organisation.

4️⃣ ECCTIS is an agency which translates and compare your already gotten credentials to a UK standard; and then certify you with a *Statement of Comparability (SOC)* that you are fit for any English engagement after they must have confirmed that the medium of instruction for your credential or whatever education qualification you presented is in English. ECCTIS also reach a conclusion that you should be proficient in speaking and writing in English language by their evaluations.

So the ECCTIS gives you a sort of clearance (something like a waiver) to say you should be considered for jobs or school in an English speaking nation...especially when your potential school or employer is skeptical or want to be sure you can communicate in English - this clearance is what they refer to as Statement of Comparability SOC.

But for IELTS, you need to write an exam to proof your English Proficiency *even if you're a professor.* The exam gives no credence to your education history or background.

The exam is to test it whether you are sound in English or not.

Whatever you like you be. Even if you have a first class, you're going to write the IELTS exams even with a third class candidate.

*ECCTIS, no writing exams, just submit all their request and wait for them to clear you.*

The clearance given to you by ECCTIS is well respected across Europe and valid for a life time.

*ECCTIS was once called NARIC.*

Like I mentioned earlier, the choice to which one you're to go for will be based on or dependent on whether the IELTS is specifically requested or not.

But if your prospective school or employer only want to be sure and would need you to proof you have proficiency in English without specifically mentioning IELTS, then the ECCTIS is your best bet.

You can begin your application for Statement of Comparability by creating an account and filling your application form via below link:

Good luck guys💙

Away from QTS application, if you are interested in the UK Care giver jobs you must meet the following requirement to support your application.

The documents needed are:

1. Police Clearance certificate (you can get it at alagbon police station) within 15k-40k. Depending on how you know how to bargain.

2. *IELTS* if you don't have a degree certificate or *SOC* from NARIC if you have a degree certificate+transcript+ MoI

3. A good packaged CV about care giver.

4. Passport + (driver's license is good advantage but not compulsory)

5. Certificate or official letter from any private or general hospital indicating you have experience in caregiving.

6. Accredited online certificate.. you can get free online courses with certificate.(Florence academy or Alison)

In addition, Health Workers/Care jobs with a valid ECCTIS otherwise called NARIC Certificate may be exempt from the IELTS exam. You can apply for the UK SOC Certificate if your academic qualification was taught in English. The service cost is £125 + VAT and takes 10 days to be generated. Fast track is also available online.

Good luck.

Hi 👋 there,

if you have intentions to japa this year, I will advise you again to begin your QTS application as soon as possible...
What you need is just your school degree certificate and transcript. Reference email address and your means of identification.

You can then process your license/certificate ASAP to apply for LoPs.

You need to submit so that your 80working days can start reading... Or else you won't be able to japa this year again.

Good morning
Re: UK Qualified Teachers Status (QTS) Application by Pojomojo: 8:45pm On Apr 06, 2023
*Discussion*

What if the TRCN stop issuing the LoPs?

...and lastly guys, I'm suspecting that TRCN might stop sending this LoPs at some point.

A new directive might come up that might instruct the agency to stop processing the LoPs for applicants; because the QTS strategy will mean a huge emigration of teachers away from Nigeria.

So what am I insinuating?

I'm saying this because I have had of cases from South Africa where teachers are being denied required documents to process their QTS by their Teachers Agency because the government feels it will create a huge vacancy in their education system (and may likely suffer a great collapse).

So, I feel at some point, the TRCN might want to place some strategic embargo on issuance of the TRCN LoPs.

Already, for me, I feel the ₦60k LoPs fee is a kind of embargo on its own accord.

You too look at it critically...

You wrote an exam, passed, was issued certificate, then given a licence... Then you still now need to start pleading for a piece of email for ₦60k.

Imagine!

It is not like this with other African countries enlisted for this UK QTS thing.
