[quote author=VeeVeeMyLuv post=122354513] Sir I hope All is well with you? Are you aware that ever since 2015 foreign direct investment (FDI) into the country has continued to plummet? Have asked yourself why? Because this particular constituted FG continue to look for ways to block avenues that enables the citizens (both skilled and unskilled) to earn their daily bread. What a wicked govt. Do u know the severe humongous damage that the sight of president receiving treatment in a hospital abroad overseas has been causing the Nigerian health sector? Don't u know that that sight can also devalue our currency?[/quote/] There is no doubt that the whole Nigerian system has been bastardized but we can't just fold our hands and watch. The least we can do is support whatever bill that can give a common man a glimmer of hope and this bill is one such. I am very well though. Thanks for asking. |

FreeStuffsNG: There is a temporary provisional license with which you use to practice for 2yrs and do your housemanship before it expires after graduation. It is that graduation letter that is the Koko that is needed to be submitted to examining body in the UK to start the process of writing exams. There is no requirement for the license to practice as a doctor after housemanship . The bill is dead on arrival. Once you have passed English test, plab 1 and 2 (even without housemanship for those who can afford to leave the country immediately after graduation and face UK), they can do their housemanship in the UK and get UK license directly with just their university certificate. 1 Like |

FreeStuffsNG: If it's true that medical training in Nigeria is hugely subsidised by the government, then I think it's the right bill... You can't be enjoying the subsidised education, then when it's time to work for those that paid, you decide to "run away" What if it was made expensive and loans granted to them like in the developed countries, how many of them would have been able to afford it? Those against the bill definitely don't mean well 2 Likes |

SirNature23: The bill is dead on arrival and here is why, 1) There is a temporary provisional license with which you use to practice for 2yrs and do your housemanship before it expires after graduation. That license Is just to show ppl that you have the right to touch patients for a time period after graduation during which you must have complete your housemanship. Maybe that license will now be increased to 5yrs due to the bill but that will now make the stress to hurriedly look for housemanship slots easy, and make the graduates focus on getting UK qualifications first.. It is that graduation letter with IELTS and not the provisional license(or the permanent license gotten after housemanship), that is needed to be submitted to examining body in the UK to start the process of writing their exams. And once you pass the exams you must register under GMC within 2yrs with evidence of housemanship. The graduation certificate, your one year housemanship evidence(which you can now do after passing plab2), your IELTS and the pass of the two exams that are the Koko requirement to prove that indeed you are a doctor that can practice in UK unsupervised. You only need evidence of your Naija full license or provisional license when you are applying for visa. Now this is what will be happening, Alot of Nigerian doctors will make it a duty and goal to leave before that 5yrs expiration just to show the legislators that they can keep their permanent license 2) There is also no requirement for the full license to practice as a doctor after housemanship by the GMC in uk . Because once you have passed English test, plab 1 and 2 (even without housemanship for those who can afford to leave the country immediately after graduation and face UK), they can do their housemanship in the UK and get UK license directly with just their university certificate. That one is a bit more competitive but if you can get slot before you even apply or finish your housemanship here, you can just go to the UK straight as an fy1 3 Likes |

Thegamingorca: Na wa o, I'm sure you're more informed on the process than me as I don't even understand most of the terms you used up there However, I feel there should be a way to make them work for some years if they actually benefit from the subsidised training. As for those who studied in private universities, they can be issued their certificates immediately |

It is really appalling that the houseof representative members have failed to tackle the issue causing the brain drain in the country. If the working conditions of the medical doctors is good, only few of them will consider traveling out for greener pastures. |

I support this bill with my full chest . To whom much is given , much is expected , it's Medical fraud for you to study Medicine on tax payers money for 7 to 8 years , then when it's time to return the favour , you run away to abroad and also rub it on the faces of the upcoming ones to also toe the same line . If you know and you know that you know that the bill is against your freedom of choice and tantamount to slavery etc , then don't bother to study Medicine in our Public Universities . Better go and study Bio Chem or SLT , if you must study Med , then go to Ghana and other African countries to do that . But if you want to study Medicine here , you must do that 5 years after your graduation or else declared wanted if you japa before the expiration of 5 years .. Nonsense and Doctors, selfish and self centered lots , enemies of the State. 1 Like |

Yampotatocarrot: Lol! This will not in anyway stop doctors from running away, it will only make every doctor from university days have the strong resolve to pursue UK license immediately after graduation the bill in truth has delayed the usual pathway, but there is another one that Nigerians refused to compete under that involves doing the housemanship abroad in other words, they will now struggle to Japa through the foundation programme and become fy1 doctors or freshly UK medical graduates and do housemanship there as offered by the uk(which is highly competitive). while still holding onto the definite possibility of entering the UK as fy2 doctors with the Nigerian housemanship and GMC registration after the 5 yrs elapses. |
