Market success isn't the same as artistic value and success. Achebe understood the market and he was able to exploit it. If that is the yardstick for awarding Nobel prize, Achebe would have it. But the yardstick is far deeper and reasonable than that. Everything Soyinka wrote beat everything Achebe ever wrote. If you are intellectually handicapped, you can't enjoy reading Soyinka.
