In an article published on March, 30 2023 by eurostat, an official website of the European Union, the average hourly costs of labour in EU (European Union) countries in 2022 were reviewed. Bulgaria, with the lowest cost of labour per hour stood at 8 euros while Luxembourg with the highest stood at 51 euros.

Let's use the lowest European paying country for this analysis which is Bulgaria. If you work 40 hours per week in Bulagaria, (which shouldn't be lesser as a healthy person without disabilities) that is:

8 euros x 40 hours = NGN163,598 (8 euros = NGN4, 089.95)

Multiply that 40 hours by 4 which is four weeks in a month, that should be:

NGN163,598 x 4 = NGN654,392

This means that a Nigerian working in the poorest country among the EU countries can boast of a salary over 500k in a month converted to Nigerian Naira. Should we still make analysis on the highest EU paying country, Luxembourg? With this here, I don't think that will be necessary.

It is really a loss of human dignity to offer labour that will not change your living standard.

no income tax factored in, no monthly cost of rent, insurance, phone bill, feeding etc. your example does not do justice.
Major reason for brain drain- poor pay, insecurity, economic uncertainty, better life/ outcomes for children( born and unborn), peace of mind , second passport etc.

Oga, this is before tax. The amount you’ll use for one-year house rent in Nigeria, you’ll use the same to pay for one month in Europe.

Your body go tell you if you are not doing a professional job that has a certain salary cap.

This is what most people who rushed the care job visa for UK didn't consider.

They converted £20,500 p/a to naira and got blindly excited and jumped without making informed plans.

After the euphoria of landing, reality sets in and so many regrets and stories start jumping out.

Sit down and plan o....all that glitters isn't gold.

cool

That's one big disadvantage of living in Nigeria.

A person doing cleaning services in Europe earns far more better than a doctor or professor in Nigeria.

Dont mind those who tell you about Bills abroad.

If you aint lazy abroad and you do fulltime (40 hours per week) job, you will comfortably pay your bills and still save.

Infact, you only need to save a little of the salary you earn in Europe and when you bring it to Nigeria, its a lot of money

And the quality of life in Europe isnt even comparable with that of Nigeria.

In Europe if you lose your job, the government is responsible and continues to pay you at least 70% of your normal salary pending when you get another job. Thats job Insurance.

Please stop comparing this failed country called Nigeria with advanced countries. The difference is too much.

The money is being spent in Bulgaria and Luxembourg. It's also more expensive to live in Luxembourg than in Bulgaria hence the higher wage in Luxembourg.

That's why the federal government had to come up with that bond to keep Nigerian doctors in this country for 5 years or more. Every graduate who finished from STEM won't be speared in the future.

However, whether we like it or not, globalization is upon us, and everyone is feeling the heat. If African countries don't rise to occasion, they will lose their best brains to Middle East, Europe and North America.

When the most brilliant ones among us leave, we will be left with chaffs who will keep campaigning and fighting for an old ex-druglord to become their president.

I have been silent on this issue but I think it's very unfair for the young doctors to leave the system that subsidized education for them to Europe and Arab countries because of money.. It's either they stay for at least 5years and give back to Nigeria or government cancels the subsidy on educating doctors in Nigeria outrightly.

There is this thing these guys say whenever you convert to Naira; they say 'don't you pay taxes, utilities and what nots'? It's fine. At least they have access to quality education and healthcare by paying their taxes.

In Nigeria, do we spend all of our earnings on ourselves? Our minimum wage here is #18,000 per month. Maybe some make more but a great number equally make less. Out of this you get to pay from your own pocket for
-Rent
-Food
-Clothing
-Education
-Healthcare
-Electricity
-Alternative Fuel

How much do you apportion to all these? Those working for registered companies pay tax as employees but gain no favours in healthcare or education. Then factor in some luxury expenditure and more importantly, savings. And what if it's a family? 😂😂

Please, just stop it. I recently have an acquaintance that emigrated to Canada. She had a remote job in 6 digits here in Lagos which she continued for about two eye blinks there before she quit. Reason? No way she's be earning in a month what she could make in less than a week of menial jobs there. And she was no doctor.

They're making it look like it's doctors issue alone; they're playing. The same reason people leave rural areas to urban areas is the same reason people leave Nigeria for a better life elsewhere. The former is cheaper to an extent but it doesn't account for the waste of one's prime.

This is a slave mentality, money that is not up to 1 M. Have you ever wondered why most Nigeria rich men live & do most biz here and the only thing they do abroad is vacation and some executive MBAs cool. There is more money where there are problems (money is made anywhere in the world by solving problems not by working under ppl). I will recommend this book, "The richest man in Babylon". Westerners and Asians make most of their money in Africa especially here in Nigeria, have you ever reasoned why they are here for biz? Lastly, it's folly to directly compare the costs of living in different countries. 10000 Naira is big money in South Korea, Seria Leone, and Uganda but what can 10k do in 9jagrin

Besides that, it’s not as if there’s job availability in those countries you mentioned. It’s all still boils down to luck..

The truth is only few countries are better than Nigeria on earth..

For those saying that the money will not be spent in naira, understand that if you earn in euros or dollar and can be able to save only 10% of your earnings, that makes you a big boy when you repatriate it home and change it.

A good friend of mine who is a senior lab scientist in an FMC here with four children finds things very difficult. The upholstery in his sitting room have all torn up and everything looks bad. He managed to migrate to Europe late 2021. As I'm talking to you now, he has spent almost 40 million naira on his building project, something he would never save all his career live in Nigeria.

95% of workers in Nigeria will never see N5 million naira in their account all their lives unless you do CHUACHUA
