AndSunGorilla: Zanaco fans want the board to change their technical bench following their recent string of poor results. hhh ‘Consultant’ Emmanuel Amunike and head coach Kelvin Kaindu are struggling to stabilise the bankers. On Sunday, Zanaco suffered a 1-0 defeat to Napsa Stars in the league. “Let them pave the way for others. Thanks for their time, at least we have learnt something from these lads," Samuel Mugala wrote on social media. “Save our beloved club sensational Zanaco,” he added The loss on Sunday means Zanaco are winless in their last eight games and just three points above the relegation Zone. I read this earlier. The interesting thing is that the fan posting that agreed that they have learnt from them. Meaning they have improved. I believe with time, things would have been sorted out. Also, they are less than a year with the team. The right recruitment would likely propel them. What is most important is improvement of the team, which is clearly highlighted from the fan's post. I understand it was a tactical decision made by David Gallego which kinda backfired anyway. Some Ponferradina fans didn't like the decision. Gallego himself confirms it from the post match conference that it was a "technical decision". But I choose to use the word "tactical". Gallego made a bad mistake. Took out Nwakali for Adrian Dieguez because he (Gallego) wanted a bit more directness from the middle and wanted to cut out the usual Recycling plays Nwakali does to help Ponferradina build up smoothly. Gallego wanted more raw directness without the silky buildup Nwakali provides but then it didn't work out. They had more possession but weren't penetrative enough without Nwakali. Taking him out means they lost that eye for lines-breaking quality from passing between defensive lines. Adrian came in and did his best but his Long ball plays and switches accuracy weren't as elite as Nwakali's. Could complete 6 out of 14 attempted. If Nwakali attempted 14, he would likely be completing 10 most times. Also, Adrian made 15 final third passes but created no true chances whereas Nwakali had already created a chance before being pulled out. Lastly, Nwakali picked up a yellow in the game before being subbed out. This means he has racked up 10 yellow cards now and will surely miss their next game vs Burgos through card suspension. A big blow for Ponferradina. In my thinking, I can even theorise that perhaps Gallego had a talk with Nwakali about his card status and told him to please avoid getting carded. 😂😂 Now they have to face 8th placed Burgos without him. That must really anger Gallego. So that's it, my top man. A technical/tactical decision that didn't pull off but I trust there is a bit more to it. TheGoodJoe: 2 Likes 1 Share |

To be honest, I saw the sack coming not through any fault of Amunike but due to the recent results I saw them recording in the past 1 month or so. When Amunike took over, the team went on a 15 games run losing only twice. In a few of those games, he would be seen on the touchline dishing out instructions himself. I watched the one he handled from beginning to end himself with the Zanaco coach also there. The match vs Nkana FC on January 21st. They won 3-2. I have shots of that game. But after this 15 games period, something went wrong. It is almost as if the team slumped and a disconnect between Amunike and the technical crew crept in. To be honest, lessons will be learnt but take nothing away from Amunike's brilliance. He is still the man I want Coaching our current Super Eagles and no one knows those players more than he does. He is more attuned tactically/technically with the current generation of players than any of our current coaches. TheGoodJoe: 3 Likes 1 Share |

The Golden Eaglets, who are due to fly out to Germany Wednesday for a training tour on their way to the 2023 U17 AFCON in Algeria, have suffered a huge body blow after a recent MRI age test dropped the bulk of the team’s midfield that won the sub-regional WAFU qualifiers last year in Ghana. A top team official told SCORENigeria: “Coach Nduka Ugbade is running pillar to post to get capable replacements for the midfielders who failed the age test. “It has not been easy, but the coach is calling up his past experience to sort out this latest challenge.” Ugbade, for one, has maintained a large pool of at least 60 players, some coming from outside the official hotel, in the event of mass failure in the age test. SCORENigeria first reported that that at least three key players from the U17 AFCON qualifiers in Ghana failed the age test when players were first asked to conduct age test privately. The 2023 U17 AFCON will be played in Algeria between April 29 and May 19. The Eaglets are drawn in Group B alongside Morocco, South Africa and Zambia. |

Marjoribanks: I wonder what you are talking about. My point has been we need to improve with time. My criticism of Rohr was we did not get better as a team with time. So I wonder your point. I like things done in the long term. That was why when Iheanacho was to join Porto, I preferred City because he will get a chance to learn over getting immediate results in game time. So, regarding Amunike, the point has always been improving our play, with time results will come. 3 Likes |
