The GoodJoe have you seen this news?

Zanaco fans want the board to change their technical bench following their recent string of poor results.

hhh
‘Consultant’ Emmanuel Amunike and head coach Kelvin Kaindu are struggling to stabilise the bankers.

On Sunday, Zanaco suffered a 1-0 defeat to Napsa Stars in the league.

“Let them pave the way for others. Thanks for their time, at least we have learnt something from these lads," Samuel Mugala wrote on social media.

“Save our beloved club sensational Zanaco,” he added

The loss on Sunday means Zanaco are winless in their last eight games and just three points above the relegation Zone.

I read this earlier.

The interesting thing is that the fan posting that agreed that they have learnt from them. Meaning they have improved.

I believe with time, things would have been sorted out.

Also, they are less than a year with the team. The right recruitment would likely propel them.

What is most important is improvement of the team, which is clearly highlighted from the fan's post.

Finito.

I understand it was a tactical decision made by David Gallego which kinda backfired anyway. Some Ponferradina fans didn't like the decision. Gallego himself confirms it from the post match conference that it was a "technical decision". But I choose to use the word "tactical".

Gallego made a bad mistake.

Took out Nwakali for Adrian Dieguez because he (Gallego) wanted a bit more directness from the middle and wanted to cut out the usual Recycling plays Nwakali does to help Ponferradina build up smoothly. Gallego wanted more raw directness without the silky buildup Nwakali provides but then it didn't work out.

They had more possession but weren't penetrative enough without Nwakali. Taking him out means they lost that eye for lines-breaking quality from passing between defensive lines.

Adrian came in and did his best but his Long ball plays and switches accuracy weren't as elite as Nwakali's. Could complete 6 out of 14 attempted. If Nwakali attempted 14, he would likely be completing 10 most times.

Also, Adrian made 15 final third passes but created no true chances whereas Nwakali had already created a chance before being pulled out.

Lastly, Nwakali picked up a yellow in the game before being subbed out. This means he has racked up 10 yellow cards now and will surely miss their next game vs Burgos through card suspension. A big blow for Ponferradina.

In my thinking, I can even theorise that perhaps Gallego had a talk with Nwakali about his card status and told him to please avoid getting carded. 😂😂 Now they have to face 8th placed Burgos without him. That must really anger Gallego.

So that's it, my top man. A technical/tactical decision that didn't pull off but I trust there is a bit more to it.

TheGoodJoe:
TheSuperNerd, any update on what happened to Kelechi Nwakali?

From what I see, he was taken off in the first half, after 30 minutes.

Also, it seems Ponferradina have improved in their play. They were able to pull off a 64% possession against Leganes but conceded at the dying minutes.

To be honest, I saw the sack coming not through any fault of Amunike but due to the recent results I saw them recording in the past 1 month or so.

When Amunike took over, the team went on a 15 games run losing only twice. In a few of those games, he would be seen on the touchline dishing out instructions himself. I watched the one he handled from beginning to end himself with the Zanaco coach also there. The match vs Nkana FC on January 21st. They won 3-2. I have shots of that game.

But after this 15 games period, something went wrong. It is almost as if the team slumped and a disconnect between Amunike and the technical crew crept in.

To be honest, lessons will be learnt but take nothing away from Amunike's brilliance. He is still the man I want Coaching our current Super Eagles and no one knows those players more than he does. He is more attuned tactically/technically with the current generation of players than any of our current coaches.

For you, not me. I have repeatedly hammered that results are short term and I prefer long term projects. Long term projects are less result oriented but performance based.

So, there is no twisting. My points have not changed.

My point remains, let us learn how to play a good possession based game and with time the Super Eagles will fly high. Amunike is in the best position to pass that to our team.

The Golden Eaglets, who are due to fly out to Germany Wednesday for a training tour on their way to the 2023 U17 AFCON in Algeria, have suffered a huge body blow after a recent MRI age test dropped the bulk of the team’s midfield that won the sub-regional WAFU qualifiers last year in Ghana.

A top team official told SCORENigeria: “Coach Nduka Ugbade is running pillar to post to get capable replacements for the midfielders who failed the age test.

“It has not been easy, but the coach is calling up his past experience to sort out this latest challenge.”

Ugbade, for one, has maintained a large pool of at least 60 players, some coming from outside the official hotel, in the event of mass failure in the age test.

SCORENigeria first reported that that at least three key players from the U17 AFCON qualifiers in Ghana failed the age test when players were first asked to conduct age test privately.

The 2023 U17 AFCON will be played in Algeria between April 29 and May 19.

The Eaglets are drawn in Group B alongside Morocco, South Africa and Zambia.

chrisoblog made an important observation.

chrisooblog:
Chukwueze is scoring double against Madrid now if it's Sao Tome and Principe he will be looking like a poor man's Ifeanyi Ekweume. All the same kudos to him.

JohnBullMySon has the following to say.

JohnBullMySon:
Till tomorrow nobody can explain this.

But one of the beauties of this thread is that you can find the answers you need if you search well enough.

The following posts made earlier, explains why Chukwueze is never at his best for the S.E

I made this post shortly before the second leg vs G. Bissau.

Meliforme:
REASONS WHY PESEIRO SHOULD ADOPT A FRONT THREE AGAINST GUINEA BISSAU

All the invited forwards thrive better when involved in the final phase or phases of attack (goalscoring) rather than in the build up to it. A 4-4-2 system converts some of these forwards to wingers who are more involved in the buildup to goal, thereby not utilising them to the best of their strengths. Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze have of late, seen improvements in their game that has made them somewhat a noticeable exception, as they seem more involved in play build up, even at that they have shown to be more efficient in a 4-3-3 as inverted wingers than as wingers in a 4-4-2 setup.
Their performances for club and country as part of both setups further enlightens the degree of their usefulnesses for the roles. They have shown to thrive better as inverted wingers.

Osimhen thrives better as a lone center forward.

High pressing A front three will enable a more intense pressing against the backline of G. Bissau and can force them into errors. A high pressing against their fullbacks might prevent their long ball strategy towards goalscoring.

This post was made shortly after the second leg vs G. Bissau.

Meliforme:
IS PESEIRO REALLY A BAD COACH.

The points below should enlighten your reasoning to make or not to make the conclusion regarding Peseiro's phenomenon as the coach well suited for the job.

...

...

Featuring Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze in roles they are not best suited. While he is not the only coach guilty of this, he is supposed to be an upgrade. Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze's behaviours on the pitch is typical of inverted wingers or forwards. Their involvement in build up plays is very secondary, they are usually at the receiving end. They are meant to receive the ball in zones and in situations where their trademark dribbling maneuvers will either give them a shooting chance at goal, or make a final pass. This is what they know how to do best, why not use them that way.

Those may or may not be good reasons to label him a bad coach, but one thing is very sure, they don't accentuate good hope in him.

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2023, 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Meliforme: 12:57am On Apr 11, 2023
This is another post, that explains why Chukwueze may not be as effective as is expected of his quality. He is made to fit into a mould not particular to him.

Meliforme:
THE DEFEAT TO PORTUGAL WHAT WENT WRONG?

It has never been about what went wrong, but what keeps going wrong.

"You can't keep repeating a particular routine expecting different outcomes"

Every tactical setup, requires the right personnel for application.
A 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 or any other tactical setup and the attendant variations of them, require playing personnel with the right technical and tactical qualities to thrive.
Wingers required to prosecute 4-4-2 have qualities that are quite different from wingers for 4-3-3.

In the former (4-4-2 ) the wingers are directly exposed and in sync with their fullbacks.

They are to do the following:
* Provide cover for their fullbacks. this involves additional defensive abilities.
* Provide support for the forwards.
* The ability to score goals is not primary to what is expected of them.
* They must possess decent ball passing abilities such as the ability to give long balls, crosses, chipped passes.
* They make decisions typical to their roles. for instance, shooting at goal is not usually the first option for a winger in this setup, rather the winger utilises feasible options to make the ball available to the forwards.

In 4-3-3, the winger in this setup is referred to as a forwards or striker. The involvement with their fullback is more diminished because of the presence of a midfield trio, ipso facto They are expected to have more offensive duties than defensive.

The following is expected of them:
* Score goals. This is primary to their roles.
* Assist the Center Forward in many ways ( to be discussed later).
* There is more flexibility to the manner at which the winger contributes to defense. This is essentially a coach's preference or tactical approach. Nevertheless on the average they spend more time in the opposition's half.

In Super Eagles. judging from the descriptions given of wingers in 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 , it is very obvious that we are deploying the wrong personnel in the chosen tactical arrangement. For instance Moses Simon and Ademola Lookman are forwards (strikers) and do not have the required defensive capabilities and passing finesse to thrive as wingers in 4-4-2. They are modern forwards groomed to thrive in a front three. They lack the ability for build up play and ball progression. That is the job of midfielders. That is the job done for them at their clubs. They are usually at the receiving end.

If we must stick to 4-4-2, We will have to go for players who will not only provide good defensive cover, but also decent ball passing ability, players groomed for build up play, and patient on the ball.

I mean my good man, it's so obvious. And to make it worse, we don't have the midfield personnel to enable the progression of our plays into the 3rd phase of plays in the tactical manner that will bring Chukwueze and his corresponding Wing forwards into the game in support of Osimhen.

JPes is cramping our lads' best traits and refusing to address the tactical needs in certain roles (or maybe not refusing, perhaps he just doesn't know).
