Seeing the comments on this thread made me realize that some people will forever be against the government decision even the ones aimed at bettering the life of the citizenry, they just want to oppose the government..

Serves him right, I’ve also fallen victim of these so called police men, they arrested me one day for something I definitely no nothing about and called me a yahoo boy, lol like tf! Me wey dey play ball, I told them. The man immediately landed me two hot slap, better one my ear ring, I calm. They started laying allegations. I just calm they collected my phone checked it, they found nothing, then they saw a message on my WhatsApp where a friend asked me if I know any vendor that buys Bitcoin, gbam, they capitalized on that, these people do then carried me to a POS close to the okoko police station and I transferred 50k to them that early Sunday morning.
I told them that I’m a footballer trying to make ends meet. They no gree, the man still collected my phone number. E good for am. Nemesis has caught up with them.

Stories like this will continue to be commonplace until Nigeria radically restructures its policing, and shifts emphasis to local police forces which are accountable to the citizens they watch over. Note that when I say "local", I truly mean local as in LGA, not "state police" which can be turned into private armies run by governors: in fact, they could be set up explicitly to be independent of state government control, with any such attempts being treated as constitutional infringements.

The rampant corruption in the NPF is not just a matter of low salaries, but a lack of accountability, and having local oversight committees would make it much harder for corrupt policemen to abuse their power and expect to get away with it. This is precisely the sort of issue which could have done with much more debate during the run-up to the presidential elections, but instead we were overwhelmed with a deluge of inane slanders, crude slurs and brazen lies being pushed by people pretending to want "youth" and "change" when all they really wanted was "their turn" to steal in Aso Rock ...

The DPO of the police station at Gate busstop can't say he isn't aware of their excesses... Please, kindly look into it also
