tufe: Probably a mistake or something. ABSU is abia state Uni right?
@Lagusta, don't mind me saying he is d father of psychiatry. I am yet to domy posting in psychiatry I just spoke outta my own little knowledge being that his name seems to be mentioned often in psychiatry.if u guys do psychiatry in 600L, I'm guessing ur path and pharm is done in 300L, cause that's d system LUTH runs.
So @ebsuguy was lagusta's ansa good?

Ok, let me break it down for u.....

Here in unilorin, we do anatomy, physiology and biochemistry, with a bit of epidemiology, behavioural sciences, microbiology and a WHO program called COBES in 200L and 300L, pharmacology is introduced in 300L, there we write our 1st professional MBBS...

In 400L we do pathology and pharmacology. Pathology is made of anatomic pathology, chemical pathology, microbiology and haematology.... Then we do our junior medical and surgical postings (M1 and S1), then we write our part 1 final MBBS

In 500L, we do two postings of paediatrics and obstetrics and gynaecology each, with another surgical posting (S2) and community health, with 4weeks of COBES, then we write our part 2 final MBBS

In 600L, we do our special postings in anaesthesiology, radiology, ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology... with M2, then our final M3, S3 and psycho postings, finally we chill off at COBES for 4 weeks and write our part 3 final MBBS exam... If u pass, u r a doctor, if not u resit the exam in 3 months, then repeat if u fail again

We withdraw at 200L if u fail twice, 300L if u fail thrice and 400L if u fail 4 times (I didn't say repeat 4 times ooooo)

Well..........

Yessir they do, then proceed on to NYSC just like med docs. That's why they are both registered by the same council, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

@lagusta, I guess ur guys system is kinda different from ours then. Here in lasuth in 200L and 300L we do anatomy, biochem and physio wif a little of community health, then write out 1st MB in 300L.

We then begin junior posting in Med and surg, then anaesthesia. Pathology and pharmacology follows. After which we write our 2nd MB.

In 500L we do psychiatry, paediatrics and then O&G. After ward 3rd MB, then elective.

600L begins with intermediate posting comprising of all that. Then comm health posting and then senior posting. Finally 4th MB of med, surg and comm health.

Jeffbaba: @phoenix u should know a certain 'kehinde jinadu' in ur class. Meehhn no wonder evrybody wants to read med! That amount for housemanship is enough to buy a brand new car if saved prudently after the one year. Chai......we are bigger boys ooo!!! UNDISPUTED CHAMPS
Nah, I don't know him/her, but the person is definitely part of our class ( name is on the admission list). Maybe when the class gets smaller, we will get to know one another. @Lagusta Thanks

Yeah, we also did that in our 200L....

I believe the indexing is to register medical and dental students into MDCN, so that screening at final year will be made easier...

Ok, just like us, but here, only 100L is done in unilorin, 200L and beyond is done at UITH, the college is just behind the teaching hospital

Yeah, I believe dental students go thru anatomy, physiology, pathology, maybe biochem and pharm shaaa...

They surely won't do O&G, paediatrics and others... They concentrate on dental surgery, dentistry, dental pathology and stuff like that...

Finally, its just 5yrs, not 6yrs like med school

Can a dentist after indution change over to a medical doctor?
Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Lagusta(m): 10:18pm On Sep 20, 2012
afol4dam: Can a dentist after indution change over to a medical doctor?

Yes it's possible....

Dentists and doctors are one and the same.....

We exchanged courses, physicians don't treat oral diseases, while dentists don't treat women's diseases....

What I mean is, we all do all the medical in-courses and write nearly same exams, but dentists don't do O&G and physicians aren't taught tooth disorders.....

But we are all doctors, no discrimination about that....

To answer your question, a dentist would go for an 18mth course to become a physician/surgeon

Thanks
