In 2011/2012 after i had given my life to christ. A young man in my church asked me if i had recieved the infilling of the holyspirit, i said no. He promised to pray for me.

A certain day, i think on a saturday, after church service, he laid hands on me in the name of Jesus and prayed in tongues.

The next thing that happened is that i got up from the hard floor of the church. I didn't feel any pain nor did i remember falling. I didn't speak in tongues either. But i had a lot of faith and was happy and believed i had been filled with the holyspirit.

I understand that you are aquinted with the spirit once you're born again, but there is an infilling or baptism of the spirit different from the born again experience.(Acts8:15-17)

So, did i recieve the infilling of the spirit at that time? Is it possible to be filled/baptised with the holyspirit without recieving any of his gifts like speaking in tongues?

There are GIFTS of God's Holy Spirit as well as FRUIT of God's Holy Spirit.

The GIFTS has stopped since 2,000 years ago so don't let anyone deceive you that you can have any supernatural gift because it has ceased! 1Corinthians 13:8-10

But as for the FRUIT of God's Holy Spirit this one will continue to time indefinite that's why Jesus foretold that it's by the FRUIT (not GIFTS) of different sects you will know which is of God and which is not of God! Matthew 7:15-18

I believe that there is a difference between been born again and the baptism of the holy spirit.

Well, Jackanda1, it was you who opened the thread. You didn't really answer my first question.

How did you know that he spoke in tongues?

Of course, you can. Speaking is tongues is just a sign that you have Him, not a proof you don't...

If you have Him, it's only matter of time before you begin to speak because He gives the utterance, so all you just have to do is to wait upon Him and continue in the Word of God obediently.

When you receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost, you'll speak in tongues as evidence of the infilling.

All instances of the Holy Spirit Baptism in the Bible and outside the Bible always follow this pattern.

You were filled with faith and joy during the prayers. These are the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit respectively but do not in anyway confirm the infilling.

Keep seeking His face in this direction. You can receive the gift of the Holy Spirit without anyone laying hands on you. You can simply ask and it shall be given to you.

E shock me. My own blood brother is one of them. He once told me that there are no more miracles. I was in the university then and God healed me of ten years migraine. He was enthusiastically telling me that God didn't answer prayers again. He had argument I had evidence. That encounter changed my perspective about God and JWs. I thereafter gave my life to Christ. Jehovah said I am God and I change not. JWs say although He is God, He is a chameleon. He changes at whims and caprices of JWs. In fact, JWs think, they control God.
My brother, do you remember the story of the two harlots in Solomon's time? The one who went home with the dead child would have to manage it. It is a difficult task to manage the dead than the living.
JWs are managing dead faith. They need a lot of philosophy and psychology to manage their ignorant people. The kingdom of God is....in power. And that of The Holy Spirit.

I think i understand your point now. Your idea of speaking in tongues is that it has to be an earthly language like chinese, Italian etc

In Acts2:6-11, during the penticost day when the disciples spoke in tongues, i believe the Holyspirit enabled them to speak in foreign languages or opened the ears of the foreigners to understand in their own languages with the aim of converting them to christ which was achieved in Act2:37.

There is a different dimension of tongues that is not connected to earthly languages and cannot be understood by men but speaks mysteries in the spirit. Only someone with the gift of interpretation of tongues can explain it. Proof:1corinth14:2,13, 22-25.

Just take all scriptures about The Holy Spirit and study them in John, Acts , and I Corinthians without bias. Read them about three to ten times. The scriptures are clear. If people still have the experience today as I have, what further explanation than getting down with the scriptures and have experience yourself?

Did the people of that time have a general language with which they communicated with one another?

You need to read that portion of the Scripture very well and try to grasp what the writer, Paul, was saying there.

Read the scriptures, meditate on it, apply your findings. My testimony or lack of it should not affect your faith in the scriptures.
