The incoming government is in for it. If they cannot work out this economy by using subsidy payments to stimulate real economic growth and further diversify the economy by devolving power and authority over major sectors of the economy there will be big, big problems.

If all it will do with subsidy savings is to pile up more fat cat contractors peddling inflated contracts in the corridors of Ministries and departments in Abuja then it has something coming.

This country will certainly not be able to survive the way it is presently run.

Restructuring and resource control will surely happen, bad news for states who are not viable. Interesting times ahead

It ought to have happened years ago. Now there will be severe instability in states and other territories that cannot pay their public servants this.

They will either demand some form of resource control or simply go bankrupt.

But my problem is the private sector, organised or not. How many firms and businesses today are able to match the Feds and raise salaries or wages by 40 percent.

Buhari must be MAD. He is living office and wants to implement 40% pay rise less than 39 days before handing over.

How many percent of Nigerians make up the federal civil service?
Will the subsidy be removed only for federal civil servants or all Nigerians
What happens to those in the state civil service, private sector and the army of unemployed which is larger then the public and private sector combined even if multiplied by three.
This is just a recipe for anarchy.

God help us.

What I don't understand is why buhari and his cronies are in a haste to remove subsidy, they should allow Tinubu/obi to decide if they want to remove it or not. My taught is that they are trying to just steal before he leaves power. Bloody criminals

Which one is Tinubu/Obi grin grin grin grin
Is Obi the vice president elect or what's happening here? undecided

It's a dark and rough patch we have to go through, we have been postponing the evil day all these years. Every state now has to look inwards and be creative. At the state level, govt has to bring up as many welfare schemes, especially around transportation for its citizens, the elderly and the vulnerable have to be helped. That's how it's done in sane societies, all these owambes have to reduce now, we have no choice. A lot of cushioning has to be done by govt for the private sector. If we curtail our wasteful spending a lot can be done but the big question is are we ready? When I see Nigerian lavish parties, I truly fear for our future

When we say restructure you guys say it is not necessary.

A country where 70 percent of earnings and revenue is spent on the 5 percent of the population called public servants, this is what happens.

Here they are. The very people who ran the refineries aground and constantly mismanage the economy are getting bailouts while the rest 35 percent, the working population are left to face the full brunt.

But I trust that they together with the 40 percent unemployed will collect back every single naira these reprobate folks pay themselves through the universal leveller called inflation.

No palliative will succeed and no handout will work. We are all in this mismanagement causes poverty together. Let misgovernance continue.

An average civil servant is far better than an average hustler on the street or those working in SMEs. I think it is the intention of government to reach every sector but the method to be adopted is another thing. Civil service is the home of corruption and laziness. The private sectors - corporate, smes, artisans, local traders, streets hustlers, etc would not be covered by 40% increment.

The government that will think right and act right, will first build a functioning refinery/refineries for Nigeria. Then the issue of subsidy will die a natural death.

The day they will remove the subsidy as they think, that day, they shut this country down.

Thank you.

Govt workers represent the minority , what about the majority non govt workers?

You all will always complain... Y'all said they should remove fuel subsidy and who doesn't know if subsidy is removed fuel price will increase? Now he the government since Obasanjo time decided to remove it just like people have been complaining and you all said it's wrong to remove it or it's suffering, then what do you people want? Or are you expecting after subsidy removal petrol should still be the same price or reduced price? If that's what you think then you don't know what subsidy is in the first place. Besides government will surely take care of their workers but what about non government workers shouting subsidy is a scam? Didn't they know they will be the most affected in the first place?
Lol jahahahaha

Solar energy should be done in rural areas, using roofs of natives, this will provide basic electricity to mobilize their local economy. Government should supply fertilizer too to aid rural agriculture.

Keep the subsidy !!!!!
Or else the price you will pay at the pump with quadruple. Plus the cost of transporting goods and services will increase.
Will the Danfo driver get the increase ? WIll the Maruwa dude get the increase. Will be Iyaloja get the increase ?
All those people will feel it at the pump and simple pass the increase down to you.

To make this work, every person with a NIN should get the increase. Plus cap the increase that can be charged at the pump.
