Like how much? If we are borrowing this extra money, is it problematic to deposit it into his account once or is it better to do it in installments?

Will advise that everything should be in your husband's account statement, which makes him automatically the sponsor. Your husband should appear like someone who has enough money as a sign of responsibility and as someone that is not a potential immigrant. Should show a good work to support the finance, to be able to defend such an amount.
And in most cases, VOs are not interested in seeing the documents (including account statement) they are only after how your husband can defend himself before them. He is like a lawyer going there to prove his innocence.

Please is the Abuja Embassy now taking visa interviews for F1? I recollect that the U.S withdrew her people at the Abuja embassy last year due to security issues.

I read some of the pages on this thread and have only seen a lot of Lagos transcripts. I will be glad to hear from anyone that has had F1 interview there recently.

The only way is apply already if you haven’t. Then keep checking your CGi profile for closer dates. Dates may be released in May and June. So best to be registered in the system. Get your I20 from your school if you haven’t. Pay Sevis fee. Start a DS 160 application. Create a CGI profile. Pay for visa fee. You can pay visa fee before submitting your Ds 160. But make sure you submit as soon as possible.

Thank you so much. The problem is conversion. If we convert to naira, we will lose a lot of money trying to convert back to USD.

The U.S embassy in Abuja restricted operations late last year due to security issues in Abuja, this was even posted on the U.S Abuja embassy website. I read it myself, no one told me this. Couldn't get any appointment for December last year.

I have checked their website and I didn't see any info about resumption of full operations and that's why I asked if anyone knows if the U.S embassy in Abuja is now fully operational and taking F1 appointments now.

Pls let me know if I am missing anything thanks.

It doesn't matter if it’s coming from family funds. Most times, they dont have time to look at your docs. Or you can split the fund 50/50 into your account and hubby’s. Good luck

The US visa is never guaranteed. It is just a 50-50 chance.
These VO's are not AI. They also might be having a bad day.
Why don't they allow recording devices at the embassy?
You can do all the mock and still get denied.
But it pays to be prepared in case you are lucky to meet a good VO who won't presume but judge you based on the outcome of the interview.

The VOs usually don’t want to see your bank statements. Best to send the statement to your school and have them update your i-20

The graduate school of the university that gave me a PhD offer asked me to pay $300 as enrollment fee. Please is one who is considered for fully funded PhD expected to pay for enrollment fee before he is been issued i-20 and other documents?

Hello guys, my interview date is getting closer and I’m finding it difficult proffering answer to one question. Let me explain the situation first before the question.
I currently work as a business operations analyst for a micro-finance bank, but my undergraduate degree was in applied geology, now I am going for my master degree in management information system.
How best can I answer the question why did you transition from geology to mis?

You didn't seem convincing about the fact that you would return after your studies.

Having your brother run your company is not a very good reason for you to come back.

Your wife applying with you should not be an issue, I applied with my husband and two kids and we were given. What I capitalized on was that I had a job that needed me when I got back. That is, of course, after meeting the funds requirement for the four of us and applying to a good program.

Always give contexts to your answers, highlight how your study will affect your business when you get back. Handing the company over to your brother is a red flag that you will not come back. The VO seemed convinced about other aspects but cut you when it came to ties to your home country.

Apply again, your wife should also emphasize that she'll be back for her job, which can mean she doesn't intend to stay the entire length of study with you to get back to her work. And if you choose to apply without her, don't use her as your reason for coming back if she still intends to join you later. We've read stories of families that wanted to join their spouse and they were met with questions like your husband said you were not coming.

What you need is to convince the VO that you will come back after your study and you didn't show that.

You can say why you got a job as a business operations analyst in the first place, your interest, job availability etc. But you should be fine if you connect MIS to your job rather than your degree
