At this point in time, every Nigerian would have to be willing to pay at least 42% taxes on just their earnings alone to make even Chicago happen. And this is just to begin it all. If the economy does not improve over time, it will cost the people more and more with each new administration. undecided
Why 42%

Actually, Chicago is still a rich, beautiful city, very livable city but just like other large cities, it has a few ugly, impoverished areas.
The median household income in Chicago is $66,000–that indicates more prosperity than poverty.

Seriously, we don't have the kind of money we need to build the kind of cities that are seen

Yes, they steal lots of money. I am not denying that. But at the end, Nigeria, at best , assuming crude is 100 dollars a barrel can earn something like 100 bn dollars at least.

We actuallyhave more forex than Australia in our reserves. But when you correct for populaton...we have 200m while the Aussies have less than 30 million people.

Our leaders have failed us by not diversifying our economy. If they had done so, we would have been richer than all those nations combined.
Diversify how?
Is it govt that will farm or factory for you?

Eko Atlantic is just a minute portion of land in the smallest Nigerian state.

How many Eko Atlantic can make up for the entire rot from North to South after over 60 years as an independent nation?

Even if Nigeria doesn't have money, can our streets match the streets of countries like Namibia, Tanzania and Botswana which are African countries not counted as rich by the way (except for Botswana).

Nigeria is really behind no matter which region you're from and it's not about not appreciating one's country. It's just that we need a high level of visionary leadership and commitment to vision over several decades to push this nation forward.
Who hold you?
Abi you no Sabi lead?

However, I don't think we have that among the present crop of politicians. And don't crap me about Zulum, Makinde, Tinubu, Obi or whomever.

Whatever ratings we give those is only when compared with their Nigerian counterparts

1. Oh, you misunderstood! The 42% taxation is not meant for the actual building of Chicago-like structures but instead to go towards preparations that need to be in place, and continuously maintained by Government in order for investors to then come in and build their structures. undecided

Sure, oyinbo ideas are stupid to you lot yet you lust daily after their lives and ideals. undecided

1. WOw... did that one actually suggest that Chicago is no longer livable? ROFLMAO! Kai! grin
2. Even most of the formerly impoverished areas have undergone gentrification over the years. The people are fighting back since gentrification also means a rise in the cost of living leading to more and more of the poor being pushed outside the city limits.undecided

Question you should ask yourself is, where did money they used in building tourism come from?

I answered this question already but I’ll answer it again-they started out using oil revenue and as tourism grew, they began to use the revenue from tourism to expand, continue building, and maintain.
As for your analogy, its far from simple,
makes no sense, and isn’t applicable.

Yes, he did. It’s on par for most of the things these guys claim—one was saying that they’d never live in poverty among the poor in Brooklyn or Harlem. I had to laugh because anyone that knows anything about either place knows it costs more to live in those boroughs than it does Banana Island. They watch too much television and read too little news.

Long gone. Nigeria’s oil revenue should’ve been used to create diversified economy which would’ve slowly replaced oil as the city’s main source of revenue.

We are making mistake for being mentally inferior by comparing us with those people who got independence 500yrs ago.

I’ve been wondering—has the project been paused? That started out wrong— they put in substandard roads that won’t be able to sustain the weight of the heavy equipment needed to finis( building going back and forth. 😔 By the time everything is built, the roads will be torn up and needing major repairs. How do developers with so much money fail to think?
