ECU change doesn't change VIN.
This said car is not accidented.
Wrong!!!
ECU is a chip now, if you replace it it will carry the memory of the donor. That's it!

Cars which their ECUs were changed that I know didn't change VIN.

Have you replaced the ECU of any car or have you by yourself confirmed a VIN change in any car that its ECU was changed?

Always run VIN check with a good scanner on the car you intend to buy.

This is very important

Yes it does change because the VIN is digitally encoded in the ECU so when you change ECU you need to reprogram the car VIN into the new ECU and delete the original one the ECU carries.

Have you practically done one like that or seen one done that like that?

A secondary schoolmate called for the inspection of a Mercedes-Benz he intends to buy for his dad. We physically inspected the car and as well test-drove it; it passed the checks.

The customs paper attached to it is also genuine, and it corresponds with the VIN on the driver's door post and windscreen, but on scanning the car with a car scanner, the VIN came out different.

It must be a stolen car or one without a customs duty, but the seller wants to sell it as the one with a customs duty.

Have you ever experienced such a scenario?

If not that scanner was taken along and was used on the car, the car would have been paid for. That shows that it is essential one uses a scanner on any car one intends to buy in other to avoid a vehicle that its vin has been tampered with for whatever reason.
Why so quick to label the car a "stolen vehicle" or the seller a thief Yes there are discrepancies with the VIN but I don't think it's right for u to come to a public forum like this and label him such names. From your write up all that doesn't still 100% guarantee its a stolen vehicle"

I know for sure ECU Swap can cause VIN Mismatch if not reprogrammed.

From my experience, they will only forge customs duty i.e print machined out customs duty to match with the VIN of the car and not tamper with the VIN on the car.

Why the stress of changing VIN on the door post and windscreen for such old model Mercedes Benz if not that there is big thing to it?

I came across two similar cases of VIN change just to use fake custom dury though both vehicles were 2012 but in this case something is fishy

Story story story!! If u aren't 100% certain it's a stolen vehicle "dont falsely accuse or defame"
People get sued/jailed for defamation and this is how trouble starts from where they least expected it.
Be mindful of what u say and how u treat people.

Why are you this pained?

Are you the car's owner, or do you do something related without remorse?

I'm just asking out of curiosity because I don't understand why you will be so emotional about a car whose VIN was tampered with like it is normal. Even the seller of the car couldn't get back to clear the air on the matter despite knowing how seriously the buyer wanted to acquire such a Mercedes.

Can you pay for such a car with tampered VIN without thinking twice about it? Answer a YES or NO, and don't come up with a nonsense epistle.

Lmao!!!

A simple question you were asked, and you are lamenting and running away instead of answering it.

We know what the kind of people that use such plate numbers on imported cars do.

You can as well drop the VIN of the car for an extensive report on it if you are sure of yourself. And if I really want to burst you, I know how I will get its VIN.

Yes I have. Where do you think the scanner pull the VIN from when connected to a vehicle?
Re: We nearly bought a "STOLEN" Mercedes Benz but this saved us by onlinediva: 11:44am On Apr 25, 2023
When should you check a car’s VIN number?

When purchasing a used vehicle, you should always check the vehicle identification number beforepayment. Make sure that the printed VIN number on the vehicle registration document corresponds to the number stamped onto the car’s chassis, as well as any additional plates on the vehicle.

VINs, chassis numbers, and engine numbers

The VIN number and chassis number are the same thing – the name ‘chassis number’ simply refers to the part of the car the VIN is stamped to. However, the engine number is something entirely different.

Engines are not attached to the car and can be changed, so there will be both a VIN/chassis number (which will never be removed or changed) and an engine number for every car. The engine number denotes the size and power output the engine produces.

Having a separate engine number means that if the engine needs to be replaced, it can be done so without the car needing to be scrapped. The car would be assigned a new engine number to correspond with the new part, alongside the existing VIN/chassis number.

Why VIN numbers are important

As we’ve already mentioned, VIN numbers can tell us a lot of information about a car. Therefore, they are integral to helping cut down car crimes, such as theft and the buying/selling of stolen vehicles. Aside from this, manufacturers use VIN numbers to handle warranty claims and recalls.

Before you purchase a used car, you should check that the VIN number on the chassis is the same as that shown in the registration documents. It’s best to check for the VIN number in as many areas as possible to ensure they all match. Some car thieves may swap out the VIN from one vehicle to another. This is known as VIN cloning and it is highly illegal.

Under no circumstances should there ever be any discrepancies when it comes to the VIN number on a car. The system is supposed to be clear, so if you come across one that doesn’t match, do not purchase the car.

That won't make the VIN change. That will only make its engine number change.
I don't think you have sufficient claims to declare the car a stolen one. I changed my ECU recently. The VIN shown on my scanner no longer corresponds with that on the VIN plate. What would you say in my case?
Re: We nearly bought a "STOLEN" Mercedes Benz but this saved us by symbianDON(m): 12:50pm On Apr 25, 2023
onlinediva:

Not sure change of ECU can make the VIN to change.

Experts in the house should talk on that.

As for me, every VIN number is different, and a VIN number will not change during the lifetime of a vehicle. Think of your car's VIN number like its DNA—it's unique to your vehicle, doesn't change, and can provide valuable information about the vehicle.
just so you know, VINs are coded into the ECU so an ECU change will cause a discrepancy between VIN displayed on the VIN plate and that pulled up by a scanner.
