I wish to write Ielts academic. As a registered nurse trying to migrate to the UK. What is required is speaking 7.0
Listening 7.0
Reading. 7.0
Writing. 6.5
Please is it possible to practice very well for 2 to 3 months with necessary materials and get this required band 7.0. I'm an average learner and average too in the use of grammar, expression, synonyms, spellings and punctuations. Will 3 months be enough to ace this band?

There are lots of videos on YouTube. Check Liz, E2, prepclass and others. I personally used YouTube for preparation and I got a high band.

Thank you so much.

I‘ll be going from Ota, but I’m not sure I can make it there before 8am🙈

Convenant University is the only center here, but it’s only paper-based.

Honestly, I would’ve preferred the CBT test.

I sat for IELTS GT (CBT) on 22nd April 2023 and I was able to view my result on Tuesday 25th April 2023 as early as 9am.

It is pertinent to note that due to my very busy work schedule and other secondary engagements, I have had little or no time to study. Infact, I should have done my IELTS since early 2022 but I kept postponing it.

I needed to submit an application before the 1st of May 2023 and IELTS GT was one of the requirements. Aside the need for my result to be available as soon as possible, I also opted for the Computer Based variant of the test because I get tired of writing too quickly and the CBT provided an auto word count which will save me the time that may be used in counting my words in the writing tasks.

As earlier mentioned, I didn't start studying until Friday morning. Thankfully, it was Eid-el-Fitr celebration, so I had a day off from work. I commenced a marathon practice characterised with occasional distractions from calls, sleep, eating, etc. I searched the internet for every and any material on IELTS. Cambridge series, BC IELTS, MOD IELTS, IELTS Liz, IELTS Jay, IELTS Essentials, IELTS Online, and so on. I also watched a lot of videos on YouTube on the same subject.

After series of practice, it wasn't hard to identify my weakness.

For listening, I realised I occasionally got distracted and lost track of the conversation being played. I also found that the 'plan and map descriptions' were herculean for me. For reading, I was ALWAYS failing over 60% of the "statement of fact" questions (True, False, Not given). Hence, I focused on these weaknesses and sought to improve in those areas. For speaking, I only needed to watch samples of videos on YouTube and I formulated a lot of sample questions for myself. I have always been confident of my writing and speaking proficiency but I did not want to leave anything to chance. Common questions like "tell me about yourself", "do you work or study?" are introductory and will always lead to the build-up of other questions. Therefore, I ensured I mastered my fluency from the very beginning. As regards to writing, task 2 is the most technical and consequently carries the most score (about 66%). I ensured I got conversant with the wide range of topics and how to build, arrange and properly articulate my thoughts on a topic. ChatGPT helped me to understand these properly. I didn't have to rely on the sample answers that were all over the internet. I just copied the task 2 question into ChatGPT and watch it build up points in favour of or against an opinion.

Finally, on the day of the test, I did speaking first and it was almost great until one question took me off guard. If I remember correctly, it had to do with "my opinion on how sports contribute to the development of a country". I was in between gathering my points and ensuring I don't stutter. However, I fidgeted and became almost incoherent. That definitely affected my final writing score. The listening and reading went pretty well. I was smart enough to quickly skip the ones I wasn't sure of and then come back to answer them comfortably and with deeper concentration after I had answered the easier ones. My writing task was almost similar to my speaking experience. Of course, I started with task 2 because it required more time, expertise, and carries the most score. After I had comfortably built my points and arranged them, it was then I realised that task 1 existed. I had just about 10 minutes left out of a total of 1 hour given for the writing task. I quickly built up the body of the letter according to the instruction but I had no time to check for spelling or typographical errors. Also, I left about two sentences in different paragraphs incomplete because I was still searching for the most appropriate words to use when the computer shut me out according to the time set for the test.

I can conveniently contest my writing and speaking scores, but since 7.5 in speaking and writing are the required minimum for the purpose I am using it for, I have decided to move on.

Finally, I am grateful to God for giving me the privilege to ace this test at first sitting. While I admit it could be very tricky, I must also insist it isn't impossible to attain a band 8 without too much stress. Know your weaknesses and focus on these areas. Thanks for your time in reading.

TEST OF ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE (TOEFL) AND INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTING SYSTEM (IELTS).
What Are The Differences Between The Tests?
There are numerous variations of these tests; however, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and International English Language Test System (IELTS) are the two major players. Both IELTS and TOEFL are well-known, reliable and valid tests. In this post, you are going to learn more about these two language tests :

The structure and the pattern of both tests;
The differences between TOEFL and IELTS;
Which one you should choose;
A sample of the IELTS & TOEFL listening exercises;
The preparation we offer at Elearning Exam centre.

All the Information You Need to Know about the IELTS Exam
The IELTS is an English language test that measures how well you can read, write, listen to and speak English.
It is used for educational, immigration and occupational purposes. More than 10,000 institutions in dozens of countries around the globe accept it. Even though IELTS is based on British style English, test takers can use either British or US spellings in their answers. There are two versions of the test: Academic and General Training.

What’s on the IELTS exam?
There are four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The Listening and Speaking sections are the same for both tests.
If you’re interested in registering for the IELTS or choosing your IELTS test center, you contact us through Whatsapp or Call on 08104198779.

The content of the Reading and Writing sections differs, depending on which test you take. For example, you write an academic essay for the Academic version, but you write a business style letter for the General Training version. The Listening, Reading and Writing sections of both versions of the IELTS test are completed on the same day. There are no breaks.

On the other hand, the Speaking section can be taken up to a week before or after the other tests. This section consists of a face-to-face interview with an examiner.
The interview is recorded. This section lasts 20 minutes max. The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes.

All the Information You Need to Know about the TOEFL Exam
We’re going to answer all the TOEFL questions you have and give you useful TOEFL tips for improving your score.

First and foremost, the TOEFL assesses your ability to communicate in English in academic, classroom-based settings. It is an American owned test.

Hence, students seeking admission to US schools tend to take it. It uses American spellings and vocabulary; however, you are not penalized for sounding British in the speaking sections or using British spellings in the writing section. The TOEFL is an important test since more than 8,500 institutions in dozens of countries around the globe accept it.

If you’re interested in registering for the TOEFL or choosing your TOEFL test center, you contact us through Whatsapp or Call on 08104198779.

What’s on the TOEFL exam?
The TOEFL test’s pattern and structure is rather basic and does not differ much from the other tests. There are four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The overall test takes four hours to complete. You perform tasks that combine your English communication skills.
You will read, listen and then speak in response to a question. The reading and listening sections come first.
Then there is a short break of ten minutes. Next, the speaking and writing sections follow. The entire test is computer-based.

What Are the Differences Between the IELTS and TOEFL Tests?
Aside from the different spelling and vocabulary, TOEFL questions are mostly multiple choice, while IELTS requires test takers to respond to a range of different question types such as short answer, gap-filling and short essay tasks. Moreover, the IELTS exam is quite a bit shorter than the TOEFL IBT exam: 2 hours and 40 minutes as compared to four hours to complete, respectively.

Both of them have a speaking section, the IELTS speaking test is taken face-to-face with an examiner. In the TOEFL exam, there are no physical people to evaluate this section.

Your responses are recorded, and then they are assessed. The IELTS exam features English speakers with different accents. TOEFL test only targets speakers with American accents.

For the writing sections, the TOEFL exam is typed as opposed to the written responses of the IELTS exam. Both tests require the completion of two tasks. The TOEFL essay is somewhat longer: over 300 words while the IELTS is 250 words.

Tests vary quite significantly in their listening components. The TOEFL listening test is between 40-60 minutes long, and involves you listening to excerpts from university lectures or conversations on a university campus.

You have to take notes as you listen, and then answer a series of multiple choice questions. For the IELTS listening test, students can answer questions as they listen to the recordings. Test takers will respond to a number of different question types.

TOEFL/IELTS Conversion, Score and CEFR Equivalence
The TOEFL score and the grading system is absolutly different from the IELTS’ grading system. TOEFL score uses a single grade that is out of 120 points. IELTS is graded on a band system. The bands are from 1-9 with the overall IELTS scores being an average of your separate test scores in all four sections. Your overall score will be rounded-off to the nearest half-band.
Which Test Between TOEFL and IELTS Should You Choose?
Although both tests have excellent reputations and are widely accepted, they do have differences in their approaches, structure and content. Consequently, you should think carefully about which one you’ll choose to take.

First of all, both TOEFL and IELTS test every aspect of the language.

TOEFL :

The speaking part consists of listening to a vocal recording on the computer;
The writing part consists of answering questions on a computer;
4 tests for the 4 parts (speaking, writing, listening, reading);
3-hour long;
120-point rating;
Average difficulty.
IELTS :

The speaking part is done with an examinator;
The writing part is done on a sheet with an analysis of documents;
1 test for the 4 parts;
2 hours and 245min;
0-to-9-point rating;
High difficulty.
Check what your institution or employer requires. Then decide which one to take.
If you’re interested in registering for the TOEFL, IELTS or choosing your any foreign test center, you contact us through Whatsapp or Call on 08104198779.

I've been postponing the IELTS since last year and finally summoned courage to register last month. Even though I had ample time to study in spite of my busy work schedule, I only did practice for a week last month and forgot all about it.

3 days to the test last week and I was scared because my speaking practice was terrible. Like I couldn't even get past 2 mins while recording myself sad I Sha encouraged myself and went in to the exam center, lo and behold this morning when results came in, it was

Reading 8
Listening 8
Writing 7
Speaking 8.5

I couldn't believe it cos I was stammering a bit at the part 1 of the speaking test but got relaxed at part two and 3. I'm just happy I cleared it at the first time of asking.

My advise is this... For listening, pay attention to IELTS Liz and understand tye format of the question and the length of answers required. Do few practice tests and that's it.

Writing, use the first 2 mins to write your points down first before typing. A lot of candidates in my center started typing away immediately and many complained that they couldn't finish on time.

Reading is a bit easy if you can properly practice with few tests. Again, pay attention to the answer length.

For Speaking I guess, just relax and practice in front of the mirror. U are good to go
