I had a similar issue when I was an undergraduate student, I had malaria and a particular medicine called camoquin was recommended for me which I used and for 3 days, my ears were completely blocked as if water was inside. I withdrew from the medicine and about 3 weeks, everything normalize but when it was about to normalise, I felt air escape from my ears one at a time. Don't remove your auditory nerves as earlier said, don't attempt to do anything to restore it either, avoid sound as much as you can, all these nerves has a way of restoring themselves, it might just take a while. 2 Likes |

kpakpakpa: Traveling out of Naija is what I think is best medically. So if your family can afford it travel out for and operation. Don't rule out spiritual solution too. I am not saying you should start visiting prophets and churches o. 99% are fake so be careful. If you are a child of God, as you continue searching for medical solution keep excercising your faith who knows. |

I'm glad I read the entire post before commenting. I was just about to comment something incredulous after reading the opening paragraph about your wish to stop hearing at all. People that say they know what you're going through don't have a clue. Yes, there's no cure. They've made promises about stem cell treatment but it's still in the research stage with no hope for a cure in the foreseeable future. I can't even begin to imagine what life is like for you, I know what you wrote here is just scratching the surface of your daily challenges, both mentally, physiologically, and physically. In any case, I want to advise you to consider cochlear implant before doing anything drastic or with such finality. You're most likely going to lose whatever is left of your natural hearing entirely, with the implant functioning as your auditory replacement. If you haven't heard about CI, read up on it online. It sounds li ok e your family is doing okay, in which case I strongly recommend they fly you to the States to get your CI and the follow-ups. By the way, you mentioned the drug, "betahistine." What was it supposed to do? |

So sorry OP, this is what I have been facing for the past 21 years, I have meningitis and went into comma for 17 days, after I came out of comma I couldn't hear a single thing, I was refer to a specialist in Ibadan, house of hearing in Yemetu, he refuse to wash my ear, he said it might become worse, hence I should keep taking medication until I am bit strong because I was weak after living hospital that I can't walk on my own.... After like 6 weeks my hearing improve, when I resume back to school I can't pick things so I visit UCH they recommend either hearing aids or cochlear Implants, I opt for heating aids because it's lesser, cochlear Implant will cost about 5m then while hearing is just 350k, after wearing it for like 3 months my hearing has gone from bad to worse because heariny aids amplify sound, thereby once I remove it I can't hear anything again, after I stop wearing it I started having Tunitinus, at times I will me slapping myself to stop the unpleasant sound, I was advice to get a good blood tonic, I started taking astymin and the Tunitinus stop on it's own, Tunitinus is a very bad experience you don't want to wish your enemy.... Right now I am heariny impaired, I heat if you face me and speak slowly and those that know me know how to communicate with me, I got married late because of this, my wife wasn't bothered about my hearing, she love the fact that I am sociable, hardworking and intelligent, OP get a good blood tonic, if you can also visit house of hearing, Yemetu Oja Ibadan God can help you there its an hospital ooo, not a church, I only use God can help you because they actually don't have treatment for hearing impaired or any issue that has to do with your inner ear in Nigeria, almitghy UCH refer me to India, if you Wana come to Ibadan you can reach me on 08031158818. Strictly whatsapp, I don't heat on phone 6 Likes 1 Share |

You received some ototoxic medications in the course of your treatments. "Ototoxicity is when a person develops hearing or balance problems due to a medicine. This can happen when someone is on a high dose of a drug that treats cancer, infections, or other illnesses. When doctors find ototoxicity early, they may be able to prevent it from getting worse". You should seek treatment ASAP! The link here should provide an insight about your diagnosis and the prognosis. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5894487/ Wishing you soonest recovery! |

Your comments sound somewhat insensitive. If you've had tinnitus, then thank your God because it wasn't serious enough that you had to research and Goggle it, because then you'd have learnt that tinnitus often go hand in hand with hearing impairment. Also thank your God your tinnitus wasn't serious enough that you had to go to the hospital, because then you'd have learned there are prescriptions to treat tinnitus. I wonder what kind of tinnitus you had. Kobojunkie: 1 Like |

kpakpakpa: I also suffer from Tinnitus but the difference is that mine is on only my right ear...when I am in a very quiet room my right ear keeps producing some sounds...that sometimes makes it hard for me to listen or hear an outside noise properly. This one ear deafness and strange sounds from d ear only happens when I am in a very quiet place or room. It’s been months i started experiencing it and it doesn’t seem like it will stop. I browsed the internet and I found no remedy to it..in fact the internet said it will later stop on it’s own. The noise Na only u wey carry the ear dey hear and feel am...nobody can hear d annoying sound coming from that ear. It all started one evening in my room last year October till now the noise hasn’t stopped. I just pray it doesn’t become something too serious as that of OPs own. I hear very well with both ears outside but when in a very quiet room the sound starts on my right ear making hearing on that ear difficult. Hmmm 1 Like |

Hang in there bro. "Based on the story, it is possible that the prolonged use of hard drugs during the patient's hospitalization in 2015 may have caused damage to the auditory nerve, leading to partial deafness and tinnitus. The patient's condition seems to have been exacerbated by the beatings on both ears by the bad guys, which led to heavy sounds in the ears. It is important to note that removing the auditory nerve may not be a viable solution as it may cause other complications. It is advisable for the patient to seek the advice of an experienced and qualified medical professional who can provide proper diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatment options, including therapy and medication". The symptoms of sounds repeating in the ears for days, also known as tinnitus, can be caused by a variety of factors, including exposure to loud noise, ear infections, hearing loss, certain medications, and underlying health conditions like high blood pressure and temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ). To determine the underlying cause of tinnitus, it is important to see an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist or audiologist for a thorough evaluation. The specialist may perform a hearing test, physical exam, and review of the patient's medical history to identify potential causes of the tinnitus. Treatment for tinnitus depends on the underlying cause, and may include medications to manage underlying health conditions, hearing aids or sound masking devices to reduce the perception of the tinnitus, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help patients manage their reaction to the sound, or a combination of these approaches. Additionally, lifestyle changes such as reducing exposure to loud noises, quitting smoking, and managing stress levels can also help alleviate tinnitus symptoms. It's important to note that there is no one-size-fits-all solution for tinnitus. A medical professional can help diagnose the underlying cause of the tinnitus and develop a treatment plan that is tailored to the individual's needs. *do not take this as medical advise* where are you based? you need to see an ENT as soonest as possible! |
