The ban has always been there but they didn't enforce it. Maybe it's now they want to enforce it.

Pre 2022, if you buy a car above 10 years, you have to pay a bribe of 20-50k to clear it at the ports because it's underage.

In 2022, they brought out another rule that says all cars below 2013 must pay the same duty as a 2013 vehicle. Even if you buy a 2000 corolla, you will pay the same duty as someone buying a 2013 corolla. I had just imported a car at the time and the initial budget I got to clear it was 900k. By the time the vehicle arrived, the new clearing rate had started and I was billed 2.2m . I wan mad but I had no choice. Leaving it at the ports will only accumulate more demurrage.

This one they want to effect the ban, I suspect it may be related to subsidy. Let's take the ability to buy vehicles out of the reach of most people and reduce the daily consumption of petrol. If our consumption goes down, subsidy goes down

My issue with Lagos state government with all these buses they acquire since the advent of BRT is maintenance . Once they commission the buses and start using them, less than a year the buses are almost always not in good shape.

I just hope the electric buses don’t follow suit
