A one bedroom apartment in London is now almost £2000 a month, so to those people talking about making it in 6 months and all those delusional comments, I doubt if any you have ever entered a plane before. Go ask the Nigerians who sold all their properties to japa to the UK how far. 2 Likes |

Babaelemu:While every Nigerian in the US don’t have that amount, there are some rich young Nigerians abroad. A Nigerian guy who graduated with financial engineering degree in the US just got a job with starting salary of 110000$/per annum. Just out of school. Furthermore, diasporian remittance as at today stand at $23B /per year on average |

Emeraldfynest: Yes. I am into Tech, but apart from being in tech in naija, there are boundless opportunities here to even learn. I am going to use my case as an example, I got to the UK, I have to go for a particular course, I paid 2200 pounds for the course, at completion, I got 3 offers, the least pay is 55k pounds aside benefit per annum. If I was in naija, where will I be able to raise 2200 pounds, where will I be able to get such jobs. Nigerians are doing well here, of course, the lazy ones are also complaining. When I got to the UK, the first Job I got, a young Nigerian (36 years) is the operation manager for one of the biggest sport company in the world. My advice again, if you are young, opened minded, ready to learn and can afford traveling legitimately to Europe, pls do. If you are smart and good in what you do, Europe has 1 million and 1 opportunities for you to flourish. Don't mind those telling you to set up business in Nigeria, I did and my hands got burnt. 5 Likes |

Money is not everything in Life I don't expect alot to understand that statement. As for me God can take that money but just give me peace of mind! Money is just a paper printed by machine created by human being!!! If you're doing good in Nigeria be a source of inspiration to others do one or two things in your community. Our country can be great we just need to change our mindset and how we think!! sammyonal: |

Babaelemu: If money was a problem, majority of those who left Naija won't. With an average salary of 500k, working remotely from home, driving a good car and living in a comfortable apartment. I shouldn't have contemplating traveling. But like I said, the moment your needs move from what to eat, what to spend and what to wear. You will understand that Naija cannot give you any other thing, most especially if you are not into looting public funds. 1 Like |

maestroferddi:nice discourse...however, I am committed to dismissing this non-factual statement whenever I read it. Diaspora temittance (around $20b) is 4% of national GDP (over $500b)....that is NOT very significant. What you should have said is that remittances are a significant source of Forex. Big big difference. Remember the 96% and not just the 4% as far as total productivity ie. GDP is concerned. 1 Like

I wonder what motivates people to run away to a foreign land with no plans and/or skill on hand to sustain them. I remember when my brother offered to send me abroad on the grounds that every other persons are going, I said I will consider when I see the need to join them. I've not yet seen the need. if you Japa and things don't pan out for you soon enough, remember the road that leads you home make you no go die for wide beast hand because you can't afford a home to live in. 2 Likes |

Thank you so much for this. I'm also into Tech, UI/UX specifically and even under my 2yrs experience, I would've gotten a job for a company based in Berlin as an intern but I was required to be on site. So many DMS to companies on LinkedIn that I could've gotten jobs from but most of them only hire within the EU. My intention now is to travel through study route by doing a Masters Degree in design, saw one school in Estonia already for 3900 Euros. I just need to work more harder to raise the funds. I'm sure it will happen. Estonia is also my choice because I heard and read it's a big IT hub in Europe. But how many yrs of experience do you have? Ibukune: |

sotall: With all due respect, shut the hell up.. I'm sure you've never flown a jet before to type this... His case is even better. Come to Paris or New York City where I've both lived in and see illegals in the street. This alone will send cold shivers down your spine... Accept videos like this so that you won't make the same mistakes about 'JAPA' without a concrete reason or plan.. Even the citizens struggle how much more a black illegal in their country... For your info, illegals getting papers via asylum, is 0% for blacks particularly from Nigeria. Think deeply before selling your fathers land to japa.... Peace. |

Emeraldfynest: IT is in high demand in Europe, infact, IT earns more than medical fields here in the UK. But the truth is that, just a few companies will be ready to employ you directly from Nigeria, even if its going to be a remote job, you are expected to be within the EU or UK as the case maybe. Because at certain times, maybe once in 2 months, your physical presence will be needed. Way forward. Sincerely, I don't know much about Estonia. I don't. But with 3900 Euros, why not consider the UK, maybe u can save a little more for same study route. Study isn't that expensive in the UK, most especially if you are single, there are schools which accept 14,000 pounds, thats like 7.2m, why not try those means. And u can switch once u get here. In as much as u are good in what you do. You will be glad you did. 2 Likes |

Yeah thank you. The onsite presence is the main issue most of them gave. As for studying, honestly I've considered the UK too because the visa seems easier to get. Estonia embassy in Africa is only in Egypt. But the schools I'm seeing are crazily expensive. Like 20,000 pounds for my course. Even with partial scholarship I still won't be able to afford it. So that's why I decided to go for Estonia. The total cost shouldn't be more than 10,000 Euros. Btw I don't even have the money yet, I'm just making plans ahead and trusting God to bring a good job that can pay for this . But I'm determined and know that I have a good plan. Ibukune: |

Treadway:Confucius once said that if he were made the ruler of the world that one thing he would do is to emphasize meaning of words... We are talking GDP here... What is the percentage of the population of Nigerians living abroad to those living in the country? Can you compare the remittances to that being made by nationals of other countries to their homelands? The remittances even dipped recently from previous figures. APC destructive government has been blamed for the relative loss of confidence in the country by some members of the diaspora. No objective person would categorize even the percentage you allocated as insignificant... Back out revenue from crude and natural gas sales and give the contribution of other sectors of the economy... Go and study what diaspora remittances is doing to Indian economy before coming to speak English.... |

maestroferddi:very predictable response. I am not surprised with your response. I have come to see that most people here will hold on to wrong points even if it kills them. Thankfully, basic math won't bend. I have enlightned those before you on this topic adequately well...and I will try to keep correcting some erroneous and overly sensationalized notions such as this one. The correct statement of fact is that remittances are significant part of FOREx, particularly in this times, but is not a significant portion of the GDP. Na basic Maths and basic English. Go and read my previous posts for all the stats/facts you probably haven't even considered ....but I know you won't..lol. Bye

African proverb says he that leave his kit and keen has tied suffering bag on his neck. Nigeria need a little Geography, Economics and sociology to know that suffering, poverty, lack are all English word and anything that has language is in the culture of the people. |

Treadway:You are wasting my time... You may have to do some reading on connotative inferences... You don't expect me to make everything mundane and prosaic just to be in sync with your wavelength... The question is " is diasporan remittances very significant to Nigeria's GDP?" And my answer is a definitive YES... If you are unable to think out of the box on this, that is your problem.... 1 Like |

headboyprince: You don’t know what I have or do not have. The more I read this forum the more I’ve come to accept that the problem with Nigeria is the people. People move to Nigeria from Asia and thrive but Nigerians genuinely believe that being a slave in Europe is better than being a sovereign human being in Africa. It’s terrifying how foolish some (most?) of you are. |
