I've never even thought about it, so I wouldn't know how I would react. grin

I share secrets with my dad. Stuff I discuss with no one, I'll confide in my father. I can't even begin to imagine how I'd feel about him having a secret family. Chai..!! grin

I wouldn't feel bad learning about my dad's other family.

i am not emotionally attached to anyone or anything.
i was born that way.

Are you sure you are not my dad’s outside child? I have no emotion, not a single one.

Most times it gets to this. I know someone else whose father had another family. His parents separated and the mum was long gone before she heard she had a co-wife all along. The mum went on to marry a rich polygamous man and had 3 kids for that one. His father had 4 from the other woman. He is alone in the middle.

He is currently training the first son of his father's other woman, though he told me they don't talk. Just send money and the guy replies with thank you. The matter dey always confuse the guy o. All these ones running mouth na because them never experience am.

I will accept because most times the real family would later become the secret family because of lack of knowledge, life's all about perspective and I'm now seeing things a lot different as I grow older

That shows a lack of integrity, what is the son supposed to emulate from the man?

Simple!

When we stretch it far enough, there is no illegitimate child in Africa. I will accept my previously unknown brothers and sisters. My father is a human being first, so he is fallible, and he is an African man with a dad who had 13 wives.

If you had asked me this question when i was a teen or in my 20s, i would have said i would be angry. But right now, after enough living in this world, my answer would be...i would welcome them with opened arms.

This is what happens when men are supposed to face work to create a conducive or more conducive financial atmosphere for their family( wife and children) instead of having excess time to waste on side chic who now eventually becomes side wife. Many men prefer thinking about sex all the time than building on their businesses and investments.

Receiving the 2nd family depends on what u mean. If it means sharing available property with them it is a NO NO since they are persona non grata in terms of legal recognition since there wasn't any legal divorce.... The family should continue being a secret family

most men that keep secret family do that to maintain their mental balance. You thinks it's easy to maintain 2 families? any man that does that knows what he's doing. He probably came to the realisation that he can't leave his 1st wife cos he doesn't want a broken home for his children or he's not just sexually compatible with the first wife. The instance I know off, the secret family was actually the man's former Ex GF before marrying his wife. The ex GF remained single cos she was heartbroken only for them to meet again and continue from where they stopped. He set both families up before his passing that there was no need for property dragging and also informed his kinsmen of his 2nd family so that his sons can have the authority to come to his village house and inherit unshared ancestral land.

I really wish my father had a secret family…

You won’t understand me until you have the set of immediate siblings I have…

No hard feelings shah!! I wish everyone well. 👍

What makes you think the secret ones would be better bikonu? You know if they are fighting themselves too? May God grant you your heart desires - they just might show up at your dad's burial. That is when they show up most times. When you are most vulnerable.

Move on, only unmarry kids thinks the way you do.

Your father have different fancies and challenges in marriage as an individuals that you'll never know, and he exploited and dealt with his issue how best he can...if you found out about his shortcomings, forgive and move-on, when you marry you'll understand.

Let’s pause talking about waist beads for once.

This is a topic which affects many Nigerians. Funny enough, I’ve never seen it posted here. I know very well some members have experienced it.

How will you cope with discovering your father had a secret family? I can imagine the rage and betrayal I’ll go through from such revelation. Many learned of it after the death of their fathers. Some accept the new family while few reject them completely.

What will you do? Has it happened to you? Do you know anyone who’s faced the situation?

Of course.

What has happened has happened.

But nobody should take away my rightful inheritance from my dad.

What rage? Did your father swear to take care of you and only you? Na you be him wife?

The problem starts when men lie to themselves with monogamous bulljive when MOST MEN CAN NEVER STICK TO ONE WOMAN.

I can’t be mad at such and will welcome them with open arms. It’s my mom’s amorous emotions that might be touched. It’s just life.

Quite an interesting perspective. What would I do? Most certainly would accept them for two reasons:

1. It is not their fault. The blame should squarely lie on my father not them.

2. Flip the coin and for once I’ll assume I were in their shoes. I’ll assume my family was the hidden one that was just “discovered”.

Painful, it may seem but I’ll take it for what it is and accept them.

The wolves just added more pups to the pack and we become stronger 🥂

No betrayal of any sort. May be from my Mother definitely not from me. I will accept them wholeheartedly. Wetin concern Agbero with overload. They are going to be my Brothers and sisters.

And yes, way back in 1988 my Father had another Daughter from another woman but that one no concern me then and even now, the Girl and me are best of pals then and now.

@GUNITGuy

We criticise our parents when we were younger, with no adult thinking but thereafter we'll begin to see their fault we questioned as a best advice now, so judging sometimes always leads to failure and shortsighted.
Dad doesn't smile then he just seat down in the evening looking up...We never understand why they drink or why mum is so religious and prayerful.......
Go to most religious houses filled with older women ...The younger women don't see the need but would understand with time too as much as the young men p
