A friend of mine just got a job offer,
The problem is that the cost of transportation will take half the salary by the end of the month aside feeding and other expenses,
I want to tell him not to bother as he will be frustrated on the job but don't know the right words and I feel I may be wrong.

So I am asking people that work here, is it ok for an employee to use 50% of his salary on transportation alone??

When God gave me my first job, I was shuttling from Orile Iganmu to Ajah (close to Abraham Adesanya) daily. I nearly broke down because transportation was taking a large chunk of the pay, but I encouraged myself and kept going.

ThankGod I continued because that job set me on a good tone for a wonderful career later.

As long as the organization has a standard career progression structure then your friend should accept the offer.

Congratulations to Him!

Make he collect the job make we see how the next two to three months go be like. From there he can make an informed decision going forward.

Its not OK to spend 50% of your income on transportation but it is better than sitting idle with 0% income to show for it and depending on other people for feeding.... Let him start from there it will eventually open door to other bigger offers

All I have to tell your friend is that, he should stay away from a relationship because I’m sure the salary isn’t up to 80k.

So if he spends half of his salary on just transport, how would he take good care of his girlfriend undecided.

He shouldn’t come and put someone’s daughter in abject poverty Biko!!

In the absence of none, let him try it for at least 3 months. Atimes, undisclosed money (legal or illegal) one will be getting in a job might even more than the salary.

Doing the job may also give him opportunity to get connections of a better offer in other companies.

He should take the job to garner experience, and moreover to cut transportation cost he should find cheap accommodation near the place of work with some colleagues,he will be going home on weekends, that is if the job doesn't include Saturdays, because jobs in this country is somehow. Some even fix work for Sundays.

He should take the job.
Along the line, he would find a way to maneuver his way around.

Made me remember the job I was doing last year, after 3 weeks, I find a way making my transport and feeding allowances without touching my salary.

But no to digress right now, I'm currently job hunting in Lagos 🤝

I hope he gets to think of the advantages and disadvantages, because you can't be borrowing money to pay transport to work when you are a worker. No be all work man get to do, because you don't want to seen as lazy, this is why employers subject their employees to modern slavery.

He should accept the job and see how the first month goes, there might be some hidden money benefits in the job apart from his actual salary, and if he does for the first month and see it doesn’t pay then he can quit, he might even see another job opportunity from that job
