Consumers To Take On SWIFT NETWORKS LIMITED In Historic Law Suit by Nansee(f): 2:50pm On May 10, 2023
A Consumer Activist group, Alliance of Consumers Rights Advocate is set to institute a legal class action suit on behalf of some consumers against SWIFT NETWORKS LIMITED.
Below is a press release from the group yesterday in Lagos.

For: Press Release or Report
We wish to inform the Public that we “Alliance of Consumers Rights Advocates (ACRA)”, have on behalf of a class of consumers, issued a Pre-Action Notice to Swift Networks Ltd over deceptive advertisings, misleading sales tactics, service disruptions, lower-than-advertised Internet speeds, unreliability, extortion, breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and so on.

The class or group representative is Mr. Steve Edet, who is also among the class members using and have suffered various levels of interruptions and inconvenience whilst using the broad brand services of the Company at all relevant times.
According to the class representative, he had been using the service since 2011 and had suffered several degrees of inconvenience, more specifically since 2019 when the service of the Company substantially depreciated and declined on a regular basis.
It is believed that Swift knew it could not possibly deliver the internet speed promised to consumers yet it continued to claim the speed was fast and reliable, the Notice alleges.

The Notice pegs the company’s apparent inability to hold up its end of the bargain on its insufficient infrastructure, lower-quality modems and routers, and the general overcrowding of Spectrum networks.
Rather than admit to customers that they could not provide “fast and reliable” internet speeds, Swift instead continues to advertise internet speeds they can in no way deliver, the Notice indicates.
ACRA has taken notice of several infractions suffered on a daily basis by consumers in their multitudes in different sectors of the economy. Consumers in most cases do not receive value for their monies. Still, they, out of no option or fear of the unknown, continue to consume same service provider or product with a bare remedy.

It is pertinent to note that when a company or
organization wants to do business with consumers, they are required to follow Federal and State consumer protection laws. Some businesses do, but most companies knowingly violate the consumers' rights to save or make money. These companies disregard the laws, assuming consumers are unaware or too afraid to stand up. They will prey upon consumers like these class members, and continue to violate consumer protection laws, until someone stops them”.

The class has been specified as “All individual consumers in Lagos who paid for broadband internet service offered by SWIFT NETWORKS NIG LTD in reliance on its representations regarding Internet speeds and reliability at all relevant times.”

We consider this stride as a new birth of vibrant advocacy for consumer protection in this country.

ACRA is a nonprofit group of public-interest advocates committed to generally foster, protect and strengthen the consumers’ rights across the Federation.

A.O. Aponmade Esq. M.S. Abdulkareem Esq.

I am in support of this...I have to call swift customer care every 2 days for service disruption, yet the have a base station on my street.imagine subscribing for one month and you have no service throughout the said month, they now give you 3 days extra to cover for the one month, yet there is still no network to use the 3days

Honestly, it's very annoying. If I'm the one living where you are, I will visit their station everyday to give them a piece of me since they are on the same street.

You're right. Organizations feel consumers won't go to the extent of a law suit and anything goes in Nigeria.

Mr @Lalasticlala people pay so much for services to be rendered or for quality goods yet most vendors and organizations offer poor services and fake products. No one takes them up about it because, well, this is Naija.

@Mukina2 Vendors can't get away with bad service all the time. If they keep getting law suits like this, they will sit up.
