Again, that's not what I addressed. Mind you_ we can dig dipper and invent per-capita. I kid you not, Nigeria is struggling in that regard, and by virtue of having several single-owned companies. Why are foreign companies thriving in Nigeria? Population! Kenya is good at where we are.

Safaricom is the biggest company in kenya and Nigeria ; do you agree? YES or NO answer will suffice.

Nope.

Safaricom is not bigger that NNPC limited and NLNG.

But both are not listed and traded on the stock exchange .

Per capita again?? 😄.
Note that Nigeria has huge disparity in exchange rate which has drastically reduced foreign investors in our market. So the investors in those stocks are over 95% local as at 2023.
Market used to be valued at over 100 Billion dollars not too long ago.
This has nothing to do with anything. I mean; our huge disparity in exchange rate will mean poor micro - economy and perhaps terrible leadership. That's not the point. The point is what I've just emboldened. You have cemented my statement. cool

I know but they would argue.
They would insist since the parent company is foreign, then it must be foreign.

Then safaricom is a foreign company then.

Vodafone/vodacom is the largest shareholder at 40%.

Exactly and NNPCL, NLNG are two of the top companies in Nigeria alongside MTN Nigeria and Dangote. NNPCL is bigger than both MTN and Dangote. Hopefully they get listed this year as planned.

yes and that is why I said it's going up.
It was 32 billion dollars before.

The data is telling you is for 1st quarter ending March when kshs was 130. In this second quarter kshs is 136 and that is why it has dropped to 12 billion for Kenya.
Look at this dwarfian.

$32B to $6B is now appreciation! grin

How ?

NNPC PBT is almost up to Safaricom entire revenue.

So how can safaricom be bigger that NNPC.

NLNG controls 10% of the entire LNG market in the world and posted revenue in excess of 9 billion dollars, that’s almost your entire stock exchange value.

It's a fact. While MTN and Dangote were not amongst the top 4 tax paying companies from their revenues in Nigeria for 2022, NNPCL was number one and I think NLNG was number four. (I'll check for the link again). MTN was number 5 and Dangote around same level ( if you exclude his many tax rebates).
So no way MTN Nigeria can be bigger than both companies.

NOPE!

A company is only foreign if the government has zero or less of other shareholders stake.
If the government owns huge amount of shares ; and they have the control of who owns(eg, kenyans owns nearly Quater of Saf, and our govent does nearly twice that) what and what goes where when and how ; then you don't say because a certain org has a certain shareholding then the company is wholly shared. No!

Your Government is not the Largest shareholder in Safaricom, that honor belongs to Vodafone/Vodacome, they hold the controlling stake.

Same way the Nigerian government own 30% stake in Dangote Refinery, yet we all know who will really dictate the tune in the company.

I can't wait for NNPCL to be listed on the stock exchange, either this year or next year.

Some analyst have put it's Market capitalization at around 50 trillion naira, that's around $108 Billion.

Buffoon. You're making this debate to look like word wasting context. Don't shrink yourself to hobbit's level. You can do better.

It's called foreign cooperate ; individuals being included carries 41% of Safaricom shares. Anything less than 50% of shareholding will dislable the ownership. Government of kenya takes 39% and Vodaphone 35% each. Locals in kenya takes more than 15%. The rest are free float; where the government has the full control over it.

You are basically admitting to my submission, Vodacome/Vodafone is the entity with the largest share's in Safaricom, are you disputing this?

Because the graphs you are putting up is agreeing with my argument .

I will help De-compound for you because you seem slow.

The graph says; the government which is the largest shareholders takes 39%. That means, they are the owners.

The same chart also says; foreign corporate takes 41%. That is vodaphone, vodacom and foreign individual investors combined. Vodaphone having the largest shareholder thereunder with a whopping 35%.

Thirdly, the same can't says free flaoting space takes about 25% _ meaning, the government is fully in charge of whom to give the stake and who not to.

Lastly; local shareholders takes 15%. Meaning, kenyans takes 54%_ at least and that alone is ownership.

One of the greatest disservice ever done to this country by past leadership was the mismanagement of NNPC.

The largest African oil company, just look at Sonatrach, and how much it has contributed to Algeria development.

The kind of corruption and looting that has taken place in NNPC will make someone weep and lose hope in this country, but at least, it's getting corrected now.

NNPC reform started in 2021, can you imagine that between 2021 and 2023, they have almost remitted $10 billion to the federal government,

and they are also the one funding the AKK gas pipeline, a project that cost about $3 Billion, and it's already at 75% completion.

Like I gave in my reply above, 1.75 trillion shillings can't be 17 Billion dollars. Let me post your top 5 companies again. Safaricom literally owns Kenyan market. This is the real monopoly.
And to think Safaricom is not even a Kenyan company but a British majority owned company. grin
This is terrible. Just look at the top 5 companies, they're all so small except Safaricom. And apart from Safaricom again, they're all banks, no manufacturing of anything whatsoever.

Exactly. They are funding AKK gas pipeline singlehandedly. Have already spent close to 1.8 Billion dollars.
But more reforms need to be done on NNPC though.

Admitting a problems is the beginning of wisdom. Your NNPC mismanagement rings to the high heaven. You have extracted oil for nearly a century now ; since 1950s there about. You ought to have managed the system well and control the African market. UAE should not be supplying and managing our oil issue when Nigeria is there with huge tonnage production.

Any serious government would make heads roll at nnpc. Nnpc not remitting money to the government is one of the reasons we've borrowed so much.
