the scan you did was useless if after getting P0302 you went ahead to change all plugs, coils and nozzles, even fuel pump. There was no need doing that scan. Your problem is with cylinder 2. No coil issue. No fuel pump issue. I'm sure you threw in the wrong plug. Better put back your old plugs. U need to check the compression of that cylinder 2.

Wow.. What a community.

Pls a car of ours is giving us a serious issue. Toyota Corolla.
Its driving well. But has refused to reverse when initiated with the gear. You match throttle but it just keeps revving without any backward movement.

Mechanics have tried but i find it hard to trust all these kazeems... blame that on past experience.

Although we intend selling it but a second thought is telling me to scan the car and see what the real issue might be.

But pls if anyone here has previously encountered this issue, or you have any idea as to what the actual issue might be, pls kindly help before i make any drastic decision.

Thanks in anticipation

What year is the Corolla?
Ever tried scanning it and also checking under the transmission sump to observe if it has an impact or even to check the colour and smell of the transmission fluid?

the corolla is 05, the color of the transmission oil is light/black mixture and it does not have a smoky smell.

after reading, it showed "solar noise". was quite surprised it wasn't a code.

also another twist now is that coupled with the previous issue, currently, it doesn't change gear.

it just remains at gear 1.

wetin dey cause this one again cry

Anyone

Will give you feedback today.
If you're in Abj, you might have to go to my friend's workshop to get it installed and confirm that it is working before you pay.

Do you currently have any codes showing that the sensor is a culprit?

This initially sounded like an external problem related to poor articulation between your shift lever and the cable that transmits the motion to the shift linkage on the tranny.
Check if there's any play in your shift lever. When you shift into reverse, try jerking the lever back and forth and wait to feel the car engage reverse.
For the second problem, observe now if the tranny oil colour/smell has darkened/worsened from the last time you checked.

Did your electrician test the alternator and battery?
If yes, did he use a digital multimeter?

Yes he checked the alternator with his multi meter and but the reason why I don't trust him any more is when he checked at first the output was over 16 voltage on idle when I rev it was around 18 and he was jubilating that the alternator is very good until it damaged my battery...I took the alternator back they did not replace it instead they fixed it and it was not charging when I got home I took it to jankara and after abusing it and going back and forth I saw one that worked but I had it in mind that I need to change it as soon as possible and now that is doing undercharging I went to buy direct tokunbo again that I pointed to the engine they removed it my self and this the fourth one and they are all overcharging and I don't trust my rewire again

I am speechless, have the fusebox looked at and carefully yet thoroughly diagnosed by another competent Electrician then check the grounds wires.

Your problem description matches that of poor/corroded connection terminals either between the B post of your alternator to the battery or between the B post cable to the fusebox. It is a charge voltage regulation problem.
There's a thick gauge single wire connected to your alternator, trace it to the point where it enters the fuse box. Ensure it is not touching any metallic part of the car's body. Also, at the point where it is bolted to the fusebox, loosen the nut and check for corrosion between the terminals. After this, there are two fuses that are linked to your alternator charing circuit, one is a maxi/high amperage fuse. Should be 80A if I remember correctly located in the fusebox in the engine bay. Remove it and check for corrosion or poor connection. The second one is a 10A fuse no4 (voltage sensing circuit) on your dashboard just above the driver's side footwell, check if the fuse is blown or terminals are corroded.

Do these checks yourself if you have the time before you do anything further. Wrong diagnosis cost money and frustration.

Greetings great Nairalanders.

How best should engine oil shortage issue with Toyota Camry 07 be managed?
*Is it by topping the oil whenever the level goes down and check engine light comes on?
* Is it to change engine oil completely when the bolded above occurs?

Kindly help.
