Its not just Netflix, I just remembered that stupîd woman king movie that they made where they were trying to portray the Dahomey as saints when anyone can easily look up their history and see what horrible greedy bastàrds they were. And yeah you could tell what they were trying to do from the trailer. You don't need to waste hours of your time watching that nonsense to see that they are trying to twist history and feed you garbage.

And this one is a docu like that one was supposed to be based on true events. 😒

I enjoyed the movie because I knew nothing about the real history and I didn't research it

But I heard later about how totally false it was...
About how they protagonists were actually the bad guys in real history

What shocked me the most was how the Dahomey actually lost so many warriors...I heard about 500 warriors just to kill about 6 french soliders in war


But the movie made them look super strong and brave meanwhile they failed massively in real life...they were cooked massively

Go and watch any WW2 movie. You will think that the USA are the good guys. The USA joined the war late after they realised that it will be bad for them in the long run. The USA also rejected Jewish refugees.

I am not saying that the Dahomey were good guys. However, the overall sentiment was right- THEY WERE BETTER THAN THE EUROPEANS THAT CAME. Not too sure about the storyline about the Oyo empire. The Oyo empire was made to be bad guys which I doubt.

USA was having issues with Italian immigrants as at that time and the citizens were complaining coupled with the fact they didn't have accurate picture of how truly bad the holocaust was. Did they do business with Nazi? Possibly as Nazi Germany was seriously courting US so they do not get involved in the war until their ally, Japan, without informing them, struck the first blow.
