so?
Are you saying that in 2023, Nigerians can't build a church that looks like this?
Besides, the church was actually built by Nigerians but designed by Europeans
Show me a church built by Nigerians in 2023 that looks like that.
It's a Roman architecture. Besides, no rule says you must employ a certain architecture to achieve beauty.
Dubai does not have this type of architecture but still looks beautiful.
Your NASS copied capitol and ended up looking like a mosque. Get sense

The reason I brought up Enyimba Economic city is that it is the only city structured like Eko Atlantic. It’s a charter city just like Eko Atlantic.

Going into Eko Atlantic is like going into a new autonomous jurisdiction. This will be the same situation for Enyimba economic city
ok that's alright. I hope Abia stare succeeds. But I'm not very confident. They couldn't even maintain Aba which was planned by the Europeans

Enyimba Economic city is not Abia state government project. Abia state government donated land in the form of equity. The organizers of the project is crown realty.

It’s a private sector driven project.

the thread had only image in the beginning, so I guessed it was Europe. No, most Western cities lack greenery and the soil is locked. Your first image says it all.

Why has Enugu government stop building new secondary schools with this bricks style like CIC? This was built in 1940s by Europeans. Schools built in 1980s by Nigerian government are in bad condition

The skills and craftsmanship that made this possible died with the Nigeria civil war. The tradesmen are long gone.
One of the legacies of British architecture is the use of bricks to build. Many of the old Anglican churches were built with stones and bricks…many if not all of these buildings have been demolished for new buildings that’ll accommodate more people. Many of them look like the Qua Iboe church below…maintaining these buildings are not easy due to lack of expertise. Even if you want to build with bricks today, the correct type of bricks are not readily available. You can’t really build with stones as good stone masons are not in Nigeria. What you’ll find are fake bricks claddings which some builders use on the surface of concrete walls.

but in Australia, red bricks are still the most common for new homes.
I like how lagos maintained christ church cathedral. That shows its possible to maintain. And the fact we had these houses in the first place shows it is possible to build.
The picture below is a mansion in Anambra. We can build churches with that concept..don't you think

The skills are not there anymore. If you lived in Enugu in the 80s and 90s, you would’ve seen the old GTC opposite polo park or shoprite…the school produced bricks and had the skills to do some amazing stuffs…lack of funding, corruption, change of career path affected skills as well…

The buildings you’ve been posted were built by very old tradesmen…most of them are dead and the skills were not passed on. If you want to build those, you’ll need to go into apprenticeship with the right organisation.

Most contemporary buildings in Nigeria might not pass quality tests…from badly molded blocks to fake cements and rebar rods…two heavy pillars in front of the buildings and bituminised corrugated roofing sheets.

Those roofing sheets you find in lekki, Abuja and banana islands would not be permitted when building residential houses in Britain. They use slates, clay or concrete tiles. These have very long life spans.

Thanksful:

It is a pre-independent building. No such building exist in Nigeria any more.

Most of the building the op put up there are acient buildings that are constantly maintained for cultural purposes.
that means you don't understand the purpose of the thread.
The purpose is to show how such architecture elevates the profile of a neighbourhood effortlessly. And why we should build new neighbourhood with more of such architecture. They are not as expensive as you think

Well baked bricks last for hundreds of years. The house you posted is beautiful but it has many faults.

Stairs and steps are not done with those type of tiles. They are dangerous. There are non slippery materials for that. Most builders and rich folks want to outdo each other by the quality of Spanish/Italian tiles on their stairs, corridors etc.

both of them are alright. NASS looking like a mosque is not necessarily a bad view for me. However I'm talking of Enugu going back to its former architectural style as Eastern capital

You're right. How is the Enyimba economic city going? Or has work stalled?

I just hope Alex Otti will prioritize it. Bring in more investors. Connect it by electric rail to Aba and extend to Umuahia via Enugu/P.H express way.

The biggest problem will have in Igboland is mediocre governors who believe that once they build a few roads and renovate a handful of schools then it's time to embezzle money.

The EEC development company won the contact of Onitsha to Aba to port harcourt federal road in December 2022. They need that road as the major road leading into the project site and they have been asking federal government for it. I also heard that one of the chairmen of EEC is on otti’s transition team

It's partly down to leadership! The present governor of the state is just so useless and local and i can't wait for him to leave! Enugu has deteriorated drastically in cleanliness and aesthetics!
