Let Enugu Onitsha Aba and Abakaliki lead by example and show Lagos the Colorado way by electing one of the numerous Hausas living in those places as their governors

At least no one is telling Abia Anambra and Enugu to ronu o

Lagos is unlike any other state in Nigeria. It's a place where the native indigenous lagosians themselves are less than 15% and a state built by people from all around the country and administrative circumstances. You don't see anyone making this kind of noise of inclusion in ekiti or Ibadan or ijebu. Lagos is unique to these places.

As to your point about the Enugu and abia, Nigeria has actually had it's fair share of inter-tribal governance. At least until APC goons like yourself highlighted our tribal lines.

Here is a northerner being elected in Enugu not to talk of the most recent where a Yoruba man was elected in abia state.
So this point is dead on arrival.

We should all strive for an ideal nigeria, not one where we remain divided.

Una don wan start tribalism this morning again. Una no dey tire ? undecided

But why is talking about a serious and visible issue in our country a taboo??

I don't understand. Why the heightened fear immediately we shine light on an obvious problem happening in our country?

What I posted here was a trending issue on nairaland and twitter. It was funny seeing posters who were highly tribalistic commending this same person who has just been accepted by his host community abroad when we know the kind of values they themselves espouse.

Why would we seek to run away from an obvious problem. Do we think not talking about it would make it go away? Are you blind to what happens on the frontpage?

Why exactly do people open up about their friend's suffering when its too late?.. Like what exactly is the public or anyone in particular to do when the person is now eternally resting?..

Men, take care of yourselves abeg..This mentality of "I'm a man" is killing us...
It all makes sense when you think about how he completely vanished from the public eye.

This is why every man needs to have a healthy bit of craze. Even if it's for self preservation. Nature did not equip you for emotional turmoil like it did women.

Any woman stressing your life best leave her and demand custody of your kids, if that doesn't work omo leave anyway cos if you die the kids will still be fatherless anyway so prioritize your sanity first.

A001, I will like to know your personal opinion on this.

These are 2 lesbian nigerian women, getting married in the US, yet inculcating aspects of their African tradition in their marriage and also religion despite both traditions publicly negating the same sex practices.

How do you view something like this?
Are they right in inculcating their tradition ina same sex marriage which their tradition doesn't recognize and do you think their tradition be altered to recognize this?

This is the thin line where liberalism clashes directly with conservatism. Something you seem to battle with in a way, you want things to change progressively but you still advocate for our ancient conservatism.

How do you interpret this?

The problem with this is that "right wing government" while appealing, financially to the average person is completely abominable socially. And there seems to be no way to reconcile the two.

You as an individual are very left leaning on social issues. You support gay marriage, abortion rights, marriage equality and to some extent pro-immigration as an immigrant yourself but conservatives are staunchly against these issues. And there is barely a basis for bi-partisanship on these issues. So how do you reconcile these issues with people who are openly fascist?

But that's the thing, I want to know what you think is "western culture". Because last I checked, if you look back 100 years into the cultures of the Americans, Britons, french and the other Nordic countries we all call "western countries", you will find that they also had a hostile culture towards women, gays and other things we frown out here today.

Gays were brutalized, imprisoned or worse. Same place we are today.

So i think it's fair to say that they themselves also "threw away" their culture but I will rather say, "they evolved" for the better. As all traditions and cultures should. They became more encompassing. They became more open minded, they became more tolerant such that both of us talking today can have our children go there and lead their own societies.

Obama's father was an average Kenyan like you and I in Nigeria who went to America and In less than 4 decades later saw his own son become the most powerful man on earth. That is the beauty of liberalism. Our own children could be the Obama of tomorrow. Everyone is equal. Society is open for all and everyone has room to thrive irrespective of your gender, race, tribe or origin.

Having money you worked hard for in your pocket is really sweet.

Except, the conditions and institutions that enabled you to thrive and succeed were built upon the backs of everyone in society through taxes.

In an ideal country, everyone would be happy to pay more than 50 percent of their taxes to the government, IF they know and are confident in the fact that that money would catapult their society to the pinnacle of development. Building the best public infrastructure. Infrastructure like affordable high speed rail that connects calabar to zamfara under 40 minutes. That constructs and maintains power plants that enables cheap electricity for constant 24 hours, well equipped public schools that guarantees quality education for all and sundry, roads and bridges that decongest everywhere and ensures smooth rides to destination of your choices and longevity of your vehicles. Seeing low levels of poverty and unemployment at very low levels.

That is how it should be and western countries have achieved varying degrees of these to good success levels. Unemployment and poverty are very low because of safety nets provided. All citizens have access to students loan to study whatever course they choose to study. Every single old person in the country are paid and taken care of by the government whether you paid into it or not.

These are elements that have seen these societies thrive above the rest.

Rather than calling for lower taxes, we should clamor for better efficient ways of spending taxes.

Na wetin I hate pass be this. I have long dreads and pierced ears. I've worked in corporate UK for nearly 14 years now. It's only in Nigeria that I will dress the way I dress and be calculating how to sort the cops because Im wearing my hair down, in a tshirt and shorts, cargos or ripped jeans and trainers, instead of buba, sokoto and pam slippers...

It's why if I don't have access to police escort when im out there, I'm pamming in an international chain Hotel on the island within spitting distance of the venues I need to visit.

Ain't nobody got time to deal with those mofos.

But that's the thing, liberalism isn't a "western thing". It's a natural phenomenon. Liberalism means "progressive change". Change is constant. Even our present culture is more liberal compared to our own grand father's societies where twins were killed and widows drank the bathing water of her dead husband and compulsorily shaved their heads when their husbands died.
Now we've evolved from that and I'm saying we need to evolve faster and become a better liberal society.

Women rights, marriage equality and gay rights are not "western culture". They are liberal ideals. Ideals that encompass tolerance, freedom of individual rights and an open society. These are good things, don't you agree?

We pay too much tax and it’s not like we don’t pay for those infrastructure you mentioned. I pay couple of hundreds to state government as rego and insurance or I can’t drive on their roads, I pay for light and gas,I pay in buses or trains whenever I use them, I pay for private health insurance and you get billed whenever you call an ambulance ( about $1k).

One of my friend don already pay 33k plus in tax and financial year ends in June….
