quickberry: That was by far the oldest 'u-17' team in the history of these world cups! I can never forget. Karimu Shuaibu with red boots had played a couple of seasons for Bendel Insurance before that tournament, he was a senior player in the naija league 2 Likes 1 Share |

Flying Eagles off to a decent start FT: Nigeria 2-1 Dominican Republic We started well but went behind due to a Benjamin Frederick Challenge in the box. His only foot put wrong all game. His partner, Abel Ogwuche was also solid for the most part but also had one moment of scare which he eventually recovered from. The Midfield did okay. Daniel Daga showed more in the first half than he did in the second. His ball playing, strength in duels, press resistance and never-say-die player tracking were on show today. He did a yeoman's job as the team's anchor in midfield. Tochukwu Nnadi didn't have an impressive first half but he came out flying in the second half impressing and even showed more after Eletu came in freeing Nnadi up to venture further forward as the most advanced of the new midfield 3 of Daga/Eletu/Nnadi after Samson Lawal was withdrawn. Samson Lawal had a largely anonymous first half. Just a few good moments with one or two good passes in the final third but he was really subdued and a bit leggy in the CAM role in the first half. He did enough in the second half though and even got on the scoresheet. His industry rewarded. Victor Ehuwa Eletu came off the bench and showed his quality in the middle. Calm on the ball. Picks the best passing option and has got an impressive passing range. He took our middle game plays a level higher in the realm of flow. Our worst performer.... it is obviously Daniel Bameyi of Yum Yum FC. He shouldn't be starting at our RB over a natural RB in Augustine Njoku. His plays are forced, mechanical and laborious. His passing decision makings are also not the best. There's more but that is all I will say. Solomon Agbalaka did okay at LB but wasn't his usual assertive self on the overlap and in duels as we saw a couple times at the U20 Afcon. In a way, I miss Lekan Oyedele (former Remo boy now in Portugal) at LB from the U20 Wafu B. Next game: Vs Italy (Wednesday). #MDU20WCDiaries 5 Likes 3 Shares |
