11. Boerewors. It's a type of a sausage too, it comes in different flavours... My favourite.. tongue tongue tongue... You can braai, or fry it and eat it with pap along with some tomato gravy and a variety of veggies on the side, or you can make a boerewors stew and eat it with rice, samp, or even macaroni... I used to like eating a lot of it back in varsity... grin grin grin
... Oh This is what I was referring to!!!! grin grin grin

I don't think these are justifiable enough to be tagged " South African dishes"

I see berbecue in the list... Every corner of the earth, eats berbecue, in Nigeria we call it suya. You cannot claim this as a SAn food because its meat in general.

Same applies to the sausages and liver with gizzards.

... In Nigeria, I can name a meal you cannot find anywhere else. That kind of meal is exclusively tagged, " Nigerian Food"

You cannot claim meat and gixxards as sAn food!

Aren't they stews?
airsaylongcome:

Don't know how to describe it using terms that you will understand. It's often eaten by dipping our "swallow" in it to make them easy to swallow. What would qualify as soup for your Southies, would be peppersoup. Examples of soups that most people here are referring to are Egusi soup, Ogbono soup, bang soup, Afang, Atama, Edikaikong, ewedu etc. They are mostly semi liquid and we dip swallows in them before we swallow

1. Samp and beans. You can either choose to eat it as it is, or you can add some lamb or beef stew on the side, even chicken stew... Personally I prefer beef stew because I don't eat lamb.

This is what they eat to get those big yansh

Im guessing that what SA calls pap is what Cameroon and Cotonou ( Benin Republic) call fufu corn though both eat it with soup which is common there. Samantha please clarify this.

Moroccans also eat bread with soup or sardines using their hands: This is an African thing.

SA like us etc, also soak bread in tea to eat. Chicken and beef is a delight to them, one of them I once knew dreaded the thought of seeing chicken at a time because he ate it too much when they were young and had mostly chicken which the family could afford.

Things like fish, prawns, crayfish, and snail are not regarded as native food here in SA... We may eat them, but they're not South African native foods.

Seafood is mostly eaten by the coloured people, especialy on the coast. Different foods for different races. South Africa has alot of different cultures and races, so food is different depending on where you are.
