It seems like black south Africans were feeding on grass before the white man came. How is it that you guys don't have local dishes and not goat this, beef that.

Nigerians in South Africa are really trying because have to spend a lot on foods. All these foods here look like dessert except pap.
You really must think our foods ends with these ones
Trust me, the surface has barely been scratched

ImpregnaTor:
Most Nigerians here sound a bit ignorant

Expecting south Africa to have similar food as our's and even getting surprised they are not eating swallows etc

like come on South Africa and Nigeria are very far from each other, So we really don't have much in common. Most of our tropical crops here too can't be grown in south Africa, there are some difference in our weather, climate and vegetations, hence most crops found here are not common there.

We can only expect some level of similarities in
our food with our west African brothers.

Southies are meat, bread and pap people grin

Stop criticising other countries food, I also don't think I can eat your native food because they just look way too messy for me.

But I don't criticize them because I know that they're your native food.

I don't think these are justifiable enough to be tagged " South African dishes"

I see berbecue in the list... Every corner of the earth, eats berbecue, in Nigeria we call it suya. You cannot claim this as a SAn food because its meat in general.

Same applies to the sausages and liver with gizzards.

... In Nigeria, I can name a meal you cannot find anywhere else. That kind of meal is exclusively tagged, " Nigerian Food"

You cannot claim meat and gixxards as sAn food!

They swallows are Eba(garri),fufu, semolina, wheat flour, Amala, pounded yam, tuwo( south African pap but way softer n never gets hard like your pap).
Let's say our tuwo is ur pap but imagine it been grinded again into a finer powder.

Thank you for this, I was wondering if 'ogi' is what she refers to as pap.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about Cameroon and Cotonou food, so I can't say they're the same or not.
sharone21:

Im guessing that what SA calls pap is what Cameroon and Cotonou ( Benin Republic) call fufu corn though both eat it with soup which is common there. Samantha please clarify this.

Moroccans also eat bread with soup or sardines using their hands: This is an African thing.

SA like us etc, also soak bread in tea to eat. Chicken and beef is a delight to them, one of them I once knew dreaded the thought of seeing chicken at a time because he ate it too much when they were young and had mostly chicken which the family could afford.

Seafood is mostly eaten by the coloured people, especialy on the coast. Different foods for different races. South Africa has alot of different cultures and races, so food is different depending on where you are.

Is Gizdodo made from gizzards?

Yes. Made with gizzards and fried plantains.
The Giz in the word is gizzard in short form.
In the 3rd picture are some of the ingredients used in making gizdodo.

Well, you should blame your brothers for that because they're the ones who keep tarnishing the Nigerian name here.
Godsgift7837:
I don’t agree with this entirely. Your brothers are chasing both legal and illegal immigrants. I was detained for two days last week even when I provided proof that I have permit and they even threatened to destroy my passport if I wasn’t careful. I ended up paying R3000 before they let me go. I fear PTA

I've never eaten food prepared like that before.
Lagosianswag:

Don't mind that person. It's not for saving gas. It's just that many Nigerians (especially Southern Nigerians) like assorted meat in a pot. cheesy

But I'm surprised you find it difficult differentiating the taste of different meat in one cooking.
Maybe some of us have special taste buds grin Because there's no amount of disguise you can do to dog meat in a soup of beef, chicken and fish I'd know you added dog meat (which I don't like) undecided

Re: List Of South African Foods by Nobody: 7:54pm On May 22, 2023
Yep.

What's sapa now
Lagosianswag:

Shaki is the Tripe you mentioned. We like cow, sheep and goat intestines but Chicken intestines is not eaten by many Nigerians unless Sapa hold you undecided
Chicken head and feet is not a favourite, it's a sign of Sapa if you start eating chicken "leftovers".

But Alas! Cultures differ! smiley

By cooking three different types of meat altogether?πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Tough times call for austerity measures ...

The overwhelming increase of cooking gas or kerosine for kerosine stoves ..

People can't even use their electric stoves cos of high energy cost ..

Reality though is that it does not affect the taste of any of the proteins ..

The only stuff most people won't cook with the others are the innings ( tripes , stoma h walls , liver ,kidney ,heart etc )

When these proteins are cooked and added to soups or stews they absorb the flavour as that is what matters to the average Nigerian ..

Preparing and spicing proteins seprate from soups and stews is not common to the average Nigerian.
