Why is taking drugs even a crime? by turmacs(f): 6:54pm On May 26, 2023 |
I honestly don't understand why drug dealers and drug takers are arrested. Why is taking and doing drugs even a crime? I believe things that should be a crime are things that I do to hurt other people against their own wish. Someone taking drugs, is by their own wish, as long as they are not in any way hurting any other person, why are they being arrested? It's just like arrested someone for attempted suicide. People should not be prosecuted for choices they make for themselves, that affect only themselves be it good or bad choices. So, why are drug dealers and people who take drugs being arrested? nlfpmod Mynd44 2 Likes |

Dexy4yah: Have you ever seen a drug addict before? You'll know they are usually too high to even have the strength to perform most of the crime you listed. Drinking Alcohol can have similar effects 2 Likes |

turmacs: People who sell or take drvgs get arrested because the consequences of their actions are harmful to their fellow human. When they tell you the things you did after taking drugs, even you yourself go shock; it can be as grave as having committed muRrder, Rrape or even 'badder' crimes. Say NO to drvgs and the world would be a better place. Please don't emulate Naira Marley or Portable, they are just making money by manipulating young, gullible and innocent minds. 1 Like |

Ask tinubu that question, he's in a better position to answer it. Continue taking drugs until old age hits you, you will start balabluing. #Say no to drugs. |

turmacs: That is a good question mod please move to front so that others can share their opinion. Simplified response: 1. Lost of revenue for the system 2. Public health hazard, spread of diseases, cost of rehabilitation that would have been channelled into improving other aspect of the health system, hence, endangering the public 3.General insecurity as people live in fear of being robbed or mugged 4. Absentee parents which increases the likelihood of juvenile delinquency Community good a times override individual craving. Most drug users (by drugs I am referring mostly to those class A drugs) become not only a danger to themselves but also a burden to the entire system. Look at this chain of events (I know it is more complicated that this but this is just a simplification) : A sales drugs (without paying his fare share of tax) to B, B gets addicted and would do anything for his/her next high. B is now out of job (lost of manpower and taxes) and depends on the system for stipend (money that could have been used elsewhere) and in addition may rob C (a hard working tax paying citizen who have to now live in fear inspite of being an outstanding citizen). In the other scenario B kills C (lost of manpower, and source of income to family and dependents). Personally, I would think that the law on drug should be such that the use of drug should not criminalised but selling it should be. And should attract a very strict severe punishment (this will be hard since there is huge money involve in the drug business) . On a different note studies have shown that countries with liberal approach to use of drugs have recorded very few incident of death by OD. Which was quite interesting because in those places they set up centers where drug users can get free syringe and may even test their drug to be such that it is pure and not contaminated. This reduces greatly the spread of infectious disease amongst drug users. On addition since it was not illegal users are mostly like to seek for help (knowing that they won't get arrested). Other users are also more likely to call in the ambulance when they notice that fellow user is about to OD without the fear of being arrest or prosecuted. |
